If this was how Scorsese's filmgraphy went he would be the undisputed GOAT

1965 - Who's That Knocking at My Door
1970 - Mean Streets
1975 - Taxi Driver
1980 - Raging Bull
1982 - The King of Comedy
1984 - After Hours
1986 - The Color of Money
1988 - The Last Temptation of Christ
1990 - Goodfellas
1995 - Casino
2000 - Gangs of New York
2005 - The Departed
2010 - Shutter Island
2012 - Hugo
2014 - The Wolf of Wall Street

Bringing Out The Dead is better than any of his other post 1980s films. Especially heaps of shit like Gangs of New York and The Departed.

>Leaving out Alice doesn't live here anymore.
Shit filmography.

Hasn't made a good movie since The King of Comedy

I always like to come back to Sup Forums just to see how contrarian it can get.

Don't see what's contrarian about it. Taxi Driver through to King Of Comedy was obviously the peak of his career. He has been remaking the same superficial meme film since Goodfellas.

Last Temptation of Christ was his peak.

>meme film
Yeah, fuck off.

Come on. Scorcese has been cuckolded by his own film making meme since Goodfellas, it's clear. He's just recycling the same collection of directorial tics on empty screenplays.

But Scorsese IS the undisputed GOAT. Only top-tier plebs would disagree.

I have no idea what you just said there. I'm trying to make heads or tails of it, but I can't. I'm getting something, but just not sure what Mind typing that in coherent English?

No. Scorcese is the pleb king of entry level film buffs but nothing he's made since the 1980s has any real artistic value. He just knows how to impress the casuals.

>He made a couple of mediocre films so he's shit

No that's not how it works Sup Forums. Scorcese is still the GOAT, greats are allowed to make mistakes. He's still the only one of his era to still put out great movies in his old age and not make any bullshit excuses like De Palma or Spielberg.

I love this board.

He is the submissive victim to the very idea of the "scorcese" branded movie. Held hostage by his own style.

>Colour of Money missing

>He's still the only one of his era to still put out great movies in his old age
I mean maybe they're "great" on a capeshitty level, but they his output over the last 25-30 years don't have much cinematic value outside of pleasing plebs.

Do you count Herzog and Eastwood too? Because they did God-tier films in their 70's.

Arguably, apart from Unforgiven, Eastwood was at his best in his 70's, while Le Ebin Nihilistic No God Fuck The Jungle Bavarian Man just put out 3-4 10/10 documentaries in a row.

how is the age of innocence? one of the few scorsese movies i haven't seen but what's your reason for leaving it out?

>1986

Im blind. fuck.

I loved Hugo. Much more than anything else he's done since Cape Fear. Shutter Island also broke the norm. I suppose WoWS was just Goodfellas as a comedy, although as far as comedies go, I can't remember a recent one that made me laugh this much. Maybe Amores Pasajeros.

Costume drama crap is gay as fuck. I don't care if it has scorcese and DDL it's still gay trash that I will never watch. I am not gay so I don't watch gay films.

>DUDE MRS MANDERLEY'S DRESS WAS SIMPLY EXQUISITE LMAO
*SWIRLS ASCOT*

You remind me of someone

>no Cape Fear
>no Bringing Out the Dead

A chick broke up with me because of that shit. Fuck you Marty for ruining my sex life, you greasy guido.

Herzog and Eastwood are the same age but they're not really from that era of Hollywood. Herzog was putting out gems in the German film industry at the time but didn't really get involved with Hollywood until recently. Eastwood is a trained actor so it's a little different.

The only director who really compares to Scorcese is Friedkin honestly. But Friedkin will always be divisive whereas Scorcese is universally loved (Sup Forums being the exception here).

>no Cape Fear
Thank the lord

>Scorcese is universally loved
This is what reveals him to be completely pedestrian and uninteresting. The best of cinema leaves at least half of the audience is ruins, bloodied and broken. Scorcese is just "Le filmbuff "quality" fun times eyebrow man"

Call me a moron or a pleb, but Killer Joe and Mud are my favorite Friedkin films. There's something about the feel of them that not even Sorcerer could match. The rest of his filmography is 50/50 for me, Sorcerer and Live and die in LA are fucking fantastic, so was that Twilight Zone episode he did. What I don't get is the love Exorcist and French Connection get. They're fine, but not that great tebehe.

This is Scorsese kino
m.youtube.com/watch?v=lWenJ3jFKHg

Yeah put Bringing out the Dead in the 2000 spot and remove GoNY and it's God Tier

>Mud
>Friedkin
Moron

So you admit you don't like him because other people do. Jesus fuck, contrarians on Sup Forums are getting worse by the day.

>The best of cinema leaves at least half of the audience is ruins, bloodied and broken

>Mud
Do you mean Bug?

Scorcese barely works on his films. He doesn't write them. he doesn't produce them. He doesn't cast them. Hell, he usually has 10+ assistant directors per film.

Scorsese is a meme production companies invented to sound legitimate.

Fuck, I meant Bug. I don't even know how I got to Mud, maybe the /rustcohle/ or the Michael Shannon connection. Yeah, Bug is fucking ace, Michaels Shannon's best role, nevermind waifu Ashley Judd

nice argument

It's got nothing to do with other people. The very fact that the films themselves allow audiences to enjoy them reveals an inherent level of artistic restriction within those works.

I believe that if a plebe enjoys a film then that's a fault of the film/director rather than the plebe doing something wrong.

>taking out Age of Innocence, Cape Fear, Bringing Out The Dead, The Aviator
>keeping The Color of Money

Absolute fucking pleb filter is all I gotta say

Why even start this thread? His filmography is near perfect barring like two films.

Oh, well you see if it IS contrarian it would look a lot less embarrassing than if you were seriously thinking films past King of Comedy were bad.

We're reaching apex cringe here folks.

Yeah, I fucked up. Mud was great too, but that was my literally favorite post 2010 director, Nichols. Dude's a fucking beast

>on a capeshitty level,

He's pointing out the Goodfellas narrative archetype and exaggerating how it's a problem for directors to do that

>His filmography is near perfect barring like two films
LOL

>Age of Innocence
>New York New York
>Boxcar Bertha
>Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
>The Aviator
>Cape Fear
>Kundun
>Gangs of New York

Those are all fucking shit movies

As I said to OP, leaving it out is pleb tier.

It's very good

Scorsese is his generation's Hitchcock.

His successor will be Refn

Sure, but he's done exactly 2, maybe 3 films like that since then
>Casino
>WoWS
>Departed(maybe)

He's only seen those films so that's what he's going by.

>if you were seriously thinking films past King of Comedy were bad.
Maybe "bad" is strong relative to this capeshit age we live in, but by actual cinema standards (and the standards of previous Scorcese movies) nothing is above the level of mediocrity. He made a video game with Goodfellas and people ate it up, now he's been making video games ever since. It's like Tarantino and Kill Bill (not that Tarantino's best work is up there with Scorcese's but the principle is the same)

Color of money was great fuck you

>any of those
>shit

None of them are great but all are at least decent

Okay pleb.

>Nichols. Dude's a fucking beast
Absolutely disgusting. Nichols is one of the biggest hacks working right now. One of the short list of directors that I deem so damaging to the medium that I'd be obliged to do my best to kill them on sight if I ever crossed paths with them.

>He made a video game with Goodfellas

>The very fact that the films themselves allow audiences to enjoy them reveals an inherent level of artistic restriction within those works
>allow audiences to enjoy them
Holy shit

>my literally favorite post 2010 director, Nichols
My nigga. I'm interested in, if not unanimously excited for, Loving, how he approaches the story with his own unique perspective.

Take Shelter is my favorite of his, but I've really enjoyed all of his movies. Still need to see Midnight Special though, still pissed I missed it in theaters.

I wonder how many times that .gif has been posted on Sup Forums.

Post your top 10, I'm really interested.

The enjoyment enabling sensibility is built into the film itself. He could have made alienation pictures but instead he made crowd pleasers.

Who fucking cares? Sup Forums is an irrelevant board

I will say this: Shotgun Stories is still my favorite of his. Midnight Special is the weakest out of all of them although Take Shelter's slow pace sometimes gets a bit frustrating. I really want to see Loving, seems like more of his story than Midnight Special ever was.

>shitposting on a level other don't even comprehend
Impressive.

Sup Forums is directly related to any later era Scorcese discussion since that's who the man has been enabling for the last 26 years.

>I really want to see Loving,
Looks like disgusting race mix propaganda to be honest family but whatever floats your boat.

>dad rock starts playing

it's the equivalent of a millennial putting dubstep in their film

Shotgun Stories is fucking great, wonderful debut. Yea, I've heard some things about Midnight Special, but I still need to see it at some point As for Loving, it does definitely seem like a story that's right up his alley.

Yes. Dadrock was the pathetic infantile cheeto dust huffing pleb music of Scorcese's day. His entry level 60s pop pleb usage isn't any less embarrassing. It stinks of autism.

Sup Forums seems hostile but I really like his DiCaprio phase. He's still talking about the same type of men: driven men of talent who contain the seeds of their own destruction. But now he's generally talking about more successful people.

The Departed is a total piece of corn-ridden shit tho

>I go to Sup Forums and people post that gif when I try to talk to them, so Goodfellas a videogame.

>he wouldn't want to betray his race for this

He likes smaller stories about non-special people in fucked up situations. He also really likes the South. Shit, if here's anyone who could do McCarthy justice it's him.

Careful user, you'll become so contrarian you'll end up like Sup Forums.

pleb.

I would sooner kill myself than ever click on Sup Forums. The video game sensibilities are the single biggest threat to cinema on the planet right now and cinema is my church.

There is not one video game playing adult on the planet who does not deserve death, and Scorcese has been providing entertainment to these people, making him an enabler of the video game cultural infantilization.

>leaving out the Aviator
This alone makes your opinion shite
Fuck off, pleb

6/10 shitpost, would probably reply again. Maybe.

>non-special people
DUDE I CAN SEE THE END OF THE WORLD LMAO

DUDE I AM A MAGICAL HOBO LMAO DON'T TRUST WOMEN

DUDE I AM A LITTLE SHITTY CHILD ACTOR WITH SPECIAL POWERS AND LIGHT UP EYES WHO CAN INTERACT WITH PARALLEL DIMENSIONS LMAO

Every board is contrarian. Don't single out Sup Forums like they're not the biggest pleb shithole on this site

Way to get my point retard. You've only seen Midnight Special you stupid fucking pleb. Filtered.

kek
I want to laugh at this but part of me is scared it's true
Still loved Shutter Island and TWOWS
Excited for Silence too somewhat

People who have an actual devotion to their chosen medium often appear contrarian to the unsophisticated. It doesn't make it true, some people are just smarter than others. I liked Goodfellas at age 9 just like everybody else did. Doesn't mean that as a 27 year old I can't comfortably identify it as a hunk of shit that was the downfall of Scorcese's career.

Stop trying to be edgy faggot

Better b8, your learning.

I've seen each one of Nichols' sorry excuses for films.

Dicaprio's voice is fucking shit and ruins the entire thing

Cinema infant.

Sure you did. I love how Sup Forums hates absolutely everything. Soon enough, there'll be fags shitting on Arnold, James Cameron, etc.

The first two aren't even what happens in those movies though, not even at a surface level.

A person skimming the wiki plot summary would get a more accurate read and could come up with a better shitpost.

>Talking about Sup Forums as if it is an entity seperate from yourself
Found the crossposting casual movie buff.

James Cameron's only acceptable movie is Terminator 1. Every other movie is bad.

Shit I thought he died because of that thread. Fuck you OP.

So we've reached that too I guess. I wonder if at this point this is worse than Sup Forums or /r9k/. Probably.

How aren't they? Michael Shannon has apocalyptic visions. That may or may not be literal.

Matthew McConaughey is a special romanticized drifter who gets cucked hard and teaches the young boy about the perils of pussy. Then there was a capeshit tier shoot out.

>So I skimmed through the plot synopsis on Mud's wikipedia article while having a wank watching blacked and now I shitpost

Elitism is a positive direction for this board. Video game players are flooding into Sup Forums on a daily basis to talk about their latest shitbuster or meme show episode. The average level of cinema sophistication here is dropping every day.

You act like no one on Sup Forums ever played Morrowind or Diablo or Warcraft 3 or Heroes or whatever the fuck. Honestly, improve you're bait, this is terrible.

Mud is as rotten tomatoes certified fresh entry level r/movies tier as it gets. No one here hasn't seen Mud other than literal Sup Forums posters.

Believe what you want. But you are building your own prison.

so your's face but people still fuck your mother daily

Leo go to fucking sleep

I love how contrarians now don't even hide the fact that they hate something because someone else loves it. This board is heading towards oblivion.

The Departed was a great movie though.

Any exposure to video game media starts to decrease the level of neurotypicality of an individual. Maybe you can have fleeting encounters and still come out of it okay, but anybody who spent serious time with video games is a lost cause. Irreparable autism. Anyone who continued to engage with them even into their adult years flat out deserves to die.

People have been shitting on James Cameron for years since he started this whole superhero shite with Titanic and that unoriginal shitfest Avatar
And is there even any point in pointing out that his greatest works (Terminator 1 and 2) were ripped off from other guy who sued him to the point Cameron had to give credit and an out-of-court settlement?

Neo-Sup Forums everyone.
