This was GOAT

Is Jodorowsky Sup Forums approved? Am I a pleb for having this in my top 5 so far? If it helps, the Seventh Seal is in there too.

i liked el topo way better, best of any of his films to me.

hola reddimdb

HAHA JOKE'S ON YOU FAGGOT, IT'S NOT EVEN THERE.

Jodorowsky is what I imagine most plebs and normies think art-house films are like. Incomprehensible for the sake of being incomprehensible and somehow intermixing symbolism so obvious it hurts my brain that people cant figure his shit out. There is a basic film makers/art-student charm to his films but they aren't the masterpieces people claim they' are.

I asked whether I might like Holy Mountain despite not liking El Topo much in a thread earlier and an user told me to watch this instead. I might give it a go tonight

:^)

Dumbass, it's not on the Top 250 which is what Sup Forums always means when they talk about IMDb pleb taste. Lurk moar.

sure thing reddito

What's a good art-house film then, go on.

I can give you what I think are a million better examples like Tarkovsky, Kubrick, Bergman etc. Examples aren't really important though, It's not about what other directors do it's about what he didn't do. I just feel like his filming, production and editing techniques are fairly amateurish and his symbolism too obvious and borderline exploitative. I'm not against shock value in general, but in my not so humble opinion his is pretty blatant and over the top just for the sake of it. I'll give him credit that he was most definitely working with a tighter budget than the directors I mentioned and his movies have a charm to them I don't doubt that, but I find none of his movies resonate or impress me on any major level. They're the DHMIS of their time, overcrafted student concept pieces with obvious messages and ideas even a caveman Jesus can discover.

LITERALLY NONE OF THOSE QUALIFY AS ART HOUSE.

AHAHAHA GET OUT.

>>>RIBBIT

shut up dude.

hes pretty good though. hes kind of a arrogant mystic but other than that his stuff is interesting.

>If it helps, the Seventh Seal is in there too.
You sure aren't doing yourself any favours, lad.

the seventh seal is a really good movie though.

Memes aside, 7th seal is fucking great. Not bergmans best by any stretch but still a solid, witty, and entertaining flick that manages to be deep and entertaining at the same time.

The best Bergman is actually Summer with Monica

jodorowsky is EXACTLY what art-house is like.

when he isn't begging for funding to make films about armies shitting on the landing field at Arrakeen.

>Is Jodorowsky Sup Forums approved?
Only the Sup Forums part. He's a crackhead Jew parading around as if he's some spiritual prophet. You got duped.

>Am I a pleb for having this in my top 5 so far?
Yes.

>If it helps, the Seventh Seal is in there too.
Wow a shallow Bergman flick. You just look like a fucking idiot that discovered film last month.

What is the point of a film? To entertain. It's not to have a coherent or comprehensible narrative.
Jodorowsky's films are no different in character than the billion dollar budget destruction porn being shat out by people like Emmerich, i.e., it's a director who knows what images he wants to put on screen, and then tries to assemble a story piecemeal around that. The only difference between the two is that Emmerich is a fly-over state American and Jodo is a mentally ill Mexican who further fried his brain on LSD and mezcal, so what they think looks cool or sexy is a little different.

Don't comment in this thread if you haven't watched Jodorowsky's Dune and laughed at what a stupid faggot Nicolas Winding Refn is.

>Kubrick
Kubrick made blockbusters, friendo

well said

>What is the point of a film? To entertain.
yikes buddy. i absolutely agree with your general point about narrative being secondary to the filmmaking itself, but entertainment shouldn't even be close to a priority when critically evaluating a film.

What should be?

why is this board so full of tryhards? i mean what difference does it makes what you think is pleb or art or whatever? do you really think you are a better person because you have "better taste"? i mean its not like you fucking wrote or directed those movies. you. just. fucking. appreciate. them.
stop for a moment and consider the state of your life if you need validation from this board or any other place on the internet for your "patrician" taste.

post your top 10

authenticity and craft.

It almost like people come here to discuss things or something. The fools!

You hold those to be important when critically evaluating a film, but that's not what we're doing. We're talking about a man who set out -- by his OWN admission -- to make an entertaining film and trying to figure out how that decision factored into the final product.

The question is, why do Jodo's films lack a comprehensible narrative, and why do they use so rely so heavily on symbolism? How would you proceed here with an analysis grounded in Jodo's authenticity, or lack thereof? Or his craft. Serious question...

i've literally never seen a Jodorowsky film in my life, so i can't comment on his authenticity. in case it's not obvious, i wasn't the guy you were responding to. just felt it was worthwhile to chime in.

>What is the point of a film? To entertain. It's not to have a coherent or comprehensible narrative.

I didn't say his films had to have that none the less I do think his films do, they aren't open ended interpretive pieces they are obvious symbolic set piece connected to the next obvious symbolic set piece and so on. With that is a bunch of shit thrown in for the hell of it like it's pee wees play house but with Jo's dick flapping everywhere.

he is really overrated. Pretty hack. I liked el topo more than Holy mountains though. Im looking forward to watch Santa Sangre because of the brother of Dario Argento wrote the script

>entertainment shouldn't even be close to a priority
Nope

compelling argument

Fando y Lis is his best film

Every movie in your top 5 must be films that don't have reviews (at least not a lot), because if you just gonna post 5 films that are famous, we cannot judge you film taste properly.

wrong .. kys pleb

OP I recommend reading the comics Jodo wrote and Moebius illustrated.

Is this a new meme?

>All films have the same purpose
Mega pleb

well he clearly gave you a lot to say

>the seventh seal
>shallow
either you're retarded or contrarian for the sake of it.

>Kubrick made blockbusters, friendo
Even the plebeians need art in their life, and Kubrick made art.

Then by that logic, Michael Bay is patrician. kys

A whole paragraph.

Pain & Gain and 13 Hours are good films, I remember the Rock being legit good too. His use of CGI techniques in Transformers films drove CGI tech forward a lot.

and patrician-plebeian dichotomy is useless.

>If it helps, the Seventh Seal is in there too.

>If it helps, the Seventh Seal is in there too.

no, Winter Light is miles better

The Incal is what its called. The metabarons is set in the same universe and is also really good.

>What is the point of a film? To entertain.
kek are books written to entertain too?

I said comics as there are multiple they did together

>incomprehensible

for you ie a moron

There is no way you actually believe this, you are just being pointlessly contrarian.

here's your you

Read what I said, friendo

>Jodorowsky's films are no different in character than the billion dollar budget destruction porn being shat out by people like Emmerich,

except Jodo's films have more scat content.

is anyone hanging out for a film version of Moebius and Jodo's "Madwoman of the Sacred Heart"?

didn't think so.

I don't really care about comic to film adaptations. The comics are good to great, take advantage of panels/comic format, good looking etc.

What I mean to say, these don't feel like 'I failed to get my screenplay through so I made a comic' like 99% of shit I've read.

So I'd rather have something that takes advantage of film from Jodo, instead of lame ass filmatization of already good piece of art.

i'm a hypocrite tho i want metabarons HBO miniseries so fucking hard
