Can we count Neo Noir? Because Neo Noir is L.A. Confidential tied with The Usual Suspects
Pure Noir is The Maltese Falcon. Nothing with ever top Bogart snatching the gun out of that dude's hand and slapping him.
Brick
The Lost Highway
Blade Runner
the man who wasn't there, by coen bros. whoever disagree know nothing about cinema.
The Third Man.
Literally only two films ITT are actual Noirs.
The best, however, is Double Indemnity.

Darkman
Blood Simple. Literally flawless.

so film noir is basically any film that has like a guy with a fedora in it right? why isn't that the definition of film noir? it would make understanding it a whole of a lot easier

Yeah, Miami Vice came to mind as a noir film. It definitely has noir vibes and charisma.

That's like saying Spaceballs is the best Star Wars movie.
Is The French Connection noir? I watched that recently and it was really good.
no. From that era Chinatown is noir.
Turned it off right there and then. But isn't it Neo-noir? Do people make a distinction between the two?
This
Or this
Or these
And this
Not to mention Detour, Gun Crazy, The Asphalt Jungle, and basically any Ida Lupino movie.
I'd also consider Le Samourai a noir and that movie fucking rocks too.
This
Murder, My Sweet
underrated Chandler adaptation
The Long Goodbye
Has anyone else ever seen Fritz Lang's The Big Heat?
That's a pretty brutal movie, considering it was made in the early 1950s
Underated answer. If season 2 was named Vinci Noir and had no association to True Detective, it would have been fine. Shit was pure noir. Season 1 is a great example of hardboiled noir tho.
Chinatown is technically neo noir. I'd have to say Maltese Falcon or Double Indemnity for best regular noir.
Great movie right there. When I watched the original Scarface I thought the same thing. Fuck was that movie brutal for the 1930s. Granted it was pre code.
Chinatown is considered one of the first examples of neo noir
That would be neo noir
