Their early stuff was new wave. When Sports came out they really came into their own. Comercially and artistically

"New Wave" itself as a label is really bizarre. It seems like a label for the initial artists that came directly after punk who had punk energy but more pop elements and no "ANARCHY IN THE UK LMAO" baggage like Elvis Costello, the Jam, the Cars, etc. Then synth music happened and some of those bands got into synths and now (at least in the US) New Wave is now synonymous with 80's synthy pop rock.
That leaves 80's pop rock like Huey Lewis, J Geils Band and this shit with no real label:
yacht rock
New Wave is the best genre
He is actually right though
It's one of the few rare examples where the meme happens to be on point actually.
Which came first? New wave or no wave?
no wave
what the fuck that was retarded
So when did new wave rise up? Shit like Blondie and Elvis Costello was "new wave" in 1977.
