Any /turnleft/ bros around? Did not see this one coming at all. Pockrass reporting that he plans to announce his retirement tomorrow. No word on who will fill the 19.

Daniel Suarez, apparently.

RIP Mr Passive Agressive Backflip Man

Damn. Makes me wonder if he has a health problem...he's literally in his prime and on a great team. You don't just retire when you have this good of a situation.

Hopefully nothing is terribly wrong.

Also, bet Suarez fills his seat.

FOX saying he's stepping away to pursue interests outside of racing. I don't know what that means.

says interests outside of driving so I guess that rules out him moving to another series

>Jon Wes Townley is retiring as well

RIP "The Human Caution Clock"

He's bored of going in a circle?

Maybe, but he's a world class driver that could race anything. And has always talked like racing was the love of his life. Just weird he's walking away from NASCAR in his prime and it's not to try a new series of racing.

Maybe he got a TV offer? I know he does a lot of TV work for Busch races.

God damn it

I unironically liked jwt

Here's Carl beating Michael Schumacher

Farewell, brave foe

Love listening to those cocky yuro commentarors.

>Makes me wonder if he has a health problem...

This.

Probably had his brain rattled around so much he's finally realized that if he keeps doing it he'll have Alzheimer's by the time he's 50.

That's not what I heard. I heard he's just tired of the grind and doesn't want to do it anymore.

Timing is really weird tho. He's been participating in all the off season stuff like photo shoots and social media buzz. He's openly talked about how excited he was for 2017 to get started.

I know he has to say stuff like that, but if he wasn't feeling it why not walk away sometime last year when the season ended?

My final guess is we'll see him working on tv soon. He probably has an opportunity he didn't wanna pass up. Maybe for FOX since they got scoop.

Probably tired of that faggot Joe Gibbs and his horseshit.

Hmm I guess it really wasn't much of a secret then.

Well there goes the only likable Gibbs guy. Tho I guess Suarez is cool.

RIP Le Backflip Man, taking off the sunglasses too soon

Been hearing it's both that and he may have early signs of CTE. His wife is a brain trauma specialist so he probably knew very quickly and that was probably extra incentive on top of the grind. He was doing pre-season prep for JGR as well just in case and probably would have done a farewell year like Smoke just did if Joe didn't feel like Suarez was ready for Cup yet.

Sucks. Really thought he would have had a chance this year at taking the Cup after coming so close last year.

He should've won the cup last year but NASCAR threw that lolbackmarkerblewatire caution so they could have a "epic dramatic" final 10 laps. You could hear it in Carl's voice when they were talking to him and he said "I really hope NASCAR needed to throw that caution". I think at that moment he began to realize that with all of its Chase format bullshit that NASCAR isn't about racing anymore and has probably been stewing over this decision ever since.

Also, Saurez isn't ready for Cup in my mind. He won the Xfinity title because of a shitty Chase format. Arris might have a part to ay in all of this as well.

Man I wanted to see him get a cup start.

Nonetheless I'm stunned that Carl is Stepping Away so soon.

I feel as though Suarez is being put into cup too early

saurez is gonna be legit, hope kryle and dinny don't rub off on him

It's Joey Logano all over again.

NO NO NO NO NO WHY
I started watching NASCAR in 05 and Carl immediately became my favorite driver, I've loved watching him every since. This breaks my heart desu.
My three favorite drivers in the world are Edwards Biffle and Massa and they're all retiring.

>tfw no one to put kes in the fence

He needs at least another season in NXS before I would say move him up. I hope Gibbs isn't expecting much from him his first season.

:(

We'll there is Kyle.

This. Only time I'll every use an emoji face.

:(

>people actually fell for the "carl is a nice guy and not a danger to his competitors" meme

>pursue interests outside of racing
This whole time Carl was just racing for the money so he could go back to his dream of being a substitute teacher.

Damn, put me in coach

well i guess Slim finally will have his driver in cup, i wonder if that was a factor in all of this

RIP passiveagressivebackflip man

>Jr will be the next to announce he is retiring

there will be several in the next few years.

Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, are all on their way out.

>never got to see a championship backflip
Fuck

This tweet makes me feel like there's a lot more to this story. Any chance Arris would nudge JGR to get Suarez in the ride?

Could literally happen.

This is so sudden and unusual.

I'm worried.

Best case scenario, he's pissed at how much of a joke NASCAR as become and *maybe* Brian France will take a clue and stop fucking around.

Worst case, it's for health reasons.

It could be for health reasons and not be a bad thing. Maybe nothing had happened yet, but he knows it COULD happen. Maybe he has some medical conditions in the family and his doctor advised him that one out two more big hits could be a problem.

Maybe he's like "Hell, I'm still sort of young and good looking, and I like acting/presenting, so I'll just go for it while I can"

I don't think a sponsor's nudging would cause him to retire, I think JR is alluding to the awful grind these guys do where they spend maybe 15 days at home over the length of a season.

Suarez is all but confirmed at this point. There's no one else available who could easily fill in that slot outside of Biffle and not sure Biffle's interested in being a seat warmer for a year till Suarez is ready. Or any driver, really.

Carl learned to become a pilot so he could just fly into NC for team meetings and fly back home to reduce the grind. So probably the biggest sign yet that 35 dates is way too fucking much.

This is true. Anyone can retire at 50 and get into sports broadcasting. But you need to start young if you want to get in to real acting like Strahan and Dwayne Johnson.

Will he join WWE?

Carl Edwards has a career in politics if he wants one. I've always said he has the charisma for politics.

I seriously believe that if he ran for senator in North Carolina or Missouri (his home state) he would win the vote.

If that works out for him, we could be looking at a NASCAR driver in the white house 20 years from now. I can see him now, thanking Subway in his inauguration speech.

Yes please

Nate Ryan published something that gives really good insight into this. Edwards is basically a recluse compared to the rest of the drivers.

No Twitter, doesn't live in North Carolina, very secretive about his life away from the track and doesn't want details about his family published. If you think about it, really the only thing we know about him away from the racetrack is that he spends his time flying and farming.

I'd say it's just the circumstances around Brian Scott's retirement (Wanting to have a private life), but on a much larger scale.

>be in prime of life
You can:
>Travel the world
>Live in the luxurious home you own
>get into acting, make millions with fun appearances
>Get in to football, basketball, soccer, etc. You're athletic
>Go in to politics
>Literally do anything
Or
>Race
>Work a hard schedule 7 days a week
>Risk your live every day
Tbh it makes sense. Why save all the fun for when you're retired and old? He's built up the game, he can do anything. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense.

Guys, does anyone think putting a 1.75 mile motor speedway in Ashville, NC is a good idea?

Good insight.

Huh. Kind of figured that Kekseth would have retired at the end of this year, and then Suarez would take his place. Didn't see this coming.

Never really cared for le passive agressive backflip man brought to you by Arris and Subway though.

>Jon Wrecks Weekly
This is considerably more disappointing

>Another meme oval
No

>1.75 mile
into the trash it goes

>not sure Biffle's interested in being a seat warmer for a year till Suarez is ready. Or any driver, really.
I dunno, man. Yeah maybe not Sniffle, but being able to drive at Gibbs for even a year would be a great opportunity for a lot of these shitbox jockeys.

Based on his Twitter lately I kind of want Biffle to stay rideless. He's been fun as Hell to follow.

I hope that he and Water Cooler Dale become full-time Twitter shitposters when they retire.

>sneak

RIP

Depends on the configuration.

If it's another D shaped oval with equal banking on each end then I'm not interested.

Not to mention that's putting a track in an already packed area for nascar.

>Richmond
>Charlotte
>Atlanta
>Darlington

It's been 12 years, nigger. That's forever in racing years.

Made a couple more of these. Going to bed now but if you guys have any ideas I'll try and do them tomorrow.

...

you can kill yourself at any time

A JGR seat would be a dream drive, but a lot of the "Good Drivers in Bad Equipment" crew started fencing for guaranteed contracts this year. DiBurritto and Ragan left BK to GoFas and Front Row respectively because they got guaranteed pay and contracts for multiple years over being paid per drive. Plus after a year the drive is gone and you have to find your own ride and sponsors since Arris is all in with Suarez and Subway's probably not going to re-up since they were sponsoring Carl.

It makes sense for JGR just to put Suarez in the 19 in Cup then move Tift over in Xfinity so he runs a full time car instead of being Kyle's back up (Especially now Cup drivers are limited in Xfinity).

I'd expect a lot of teams to start making moves for the next generation. Harvick sounds like he only has one or two seasons left in him and is already signed a deal to do broadcasting for Fox on Xfinity.

>le nico rosberg faec

Press conference on now. Carl is retiring from all Motorsport.

nascar.com/jgr.html

Whoops. He's "Retiring" from full time racing but if he wants to race again, he will come back to JGR and still wants to be involved in racing in some capacity and may do one offs.

Given that he has almost won the championship twice and is driving for one of the two top teams in NASCAR, and has shown zero decline in his ability, there has to be something else there.

Given that he has a very well managed public persona and leads a very private life (he doesn't have a Twitter and refuses to talk about his personal life in interviews), and there have been a couple of instances where the veneer has cracked (the time he threatened Matt Kenseth with a punch, and almost killed Brad Keselowski with an intentional dump at 200 MPH), there may be a dark side to him that he's getting ahead of by stepping away from the sport.

>world class driver that could race anything

Probably until he has to turn the steering wheel the otherway.

About to be confirmed, Suarez will be in the 19 in Cup next year. Car is already out on the floor. Suarez's xfinity replacement will be announced.

>replacement
He doesn't need one

Can't tell you how I know, but Carl failed a drug test. Got busted for PEDs. Rather than shame his career he's decided to retire and NASCAR will never announce.

so, in resume Carl didn't said anything about why is he retiring and JGR confirmed Suarez, another thing that we already knew

>PEDs
>In Nascar

drivers used to use amphetamines all the time and it is very dangerous and now is a lifetime ban.

Not to read into this too much, but he took a few insanely hard hits this year (Dover and Homestead to name two) and his wife is a doctor specializing in brain trauma rehab

I hate to be that guy, but source? I've legit never heard this.

>my dad works at Nintendo
