seriously, how the fuck does a ship that can do 35+ mph and has radar run into a fucking cargo ship

There goes several careers

You'd be surprised

We aren't exactly able to be the best at our jobs in the Navy because of all the other fucking bullshit we have to do. Like for instance, equal opportunity and sexual harassment training.

JAP KAMIKAZIS!!!!

ITS LIKE WW2 ALL OVER AGAIN

Fuckin Boatheads...

>welfare queen saying a ship full of people can't steer it because of sexual harassment training

Sad!

Holy shit- a U.S. Navy ship that didn't break down within months of being built?

USA! USA!

you have any idea how fucking hard it is to stop a several hundred ton vessel doing aboout 25 knots. IT ain't no fucking civic that's for sure and the cargo ship should have cleared it not the other way around. Either way major SNAFU will be blamed on US just like everything else though maritime tradition states the smaller ship should in most all cases yield.

>how the fuck does a ship that can do 35+ mph and has radar run into a fucking cargo ship
fairly easily
moving on water isn't like driving a car
you can't just swerve out of the way
it takes minutes to adjust course
and the larger the ship the harder it is to adjust
then you add the fact that every military vessel assumes that they always have the right of way
>/r/ing the carrier-lighthouse copypasta

\(゜ロ\)(/ロ゜)/

if only they had like an entire ocean to maneuver in and radar and satellite imaging that could detect other ships that detect other vessels hundreds of miles away

Same way cars do. Somebody misunderstood the situation and thought something else was going to happen and when it became clear they were wrong it was too late.

Based on the damage, it looks like the destroyer ran in front of the cargo ship which would suggest they thought they had right of way. No knowing if they were right or wrong at this point.

>talking shit about the USA
you better hope that you're not on the president's kill list

...yet another reason for the japanese public to be pissed about US military presence.

warship
Fitzgerald
rammed by jap ship
If it's number is 109, I'm a gonna shit bricks.

The navy isnt going to change course for a shit brown-people boat man. they arent changing course for anyone.
Remember that lighthouse they made get out of their way?

GB FAIL

>Remember that lighthouse they made get out of their way?

Yep. There are also more than a few whales that didn't get the fuck out of the way.

yes
this accidental naval collision with few casualties is what the Japs are going to hate Americans over

USA VS Philippines

In case anyone is wondering, the story about a US naval officer demanding a lighthouse to get out of their way is fake. No documented evidence of such an incident exists.

>several

>No documented evidence of such an incident exists.

I know, but it's still funny.

and here comes the japanese guilt trip
shocking

They didn't get the fuck out of the way. They are lucky we didn't blow them out of the water. ALL ships move out of the way for US WAR ships.

Hiroshima VS Detroit

it's not like japan ever committed crimes against humanity

Philippine ship

This was a Philippine ship.

just saying that this collision is is not what they're going to hate Americans over

americans should be pissed off at the japs for sending nuclear fallout their way

your thinking of a PT cruiser not a destroyer you dumbfuck

Underrated.

...

...

>In case anyone is wondering,
We're not but thanks for the sperg

>They didn't get the fuck out of the way.

The damage on the destroyer says it didn't get the fuck out of the way.

75rem
that is nothing compared to the fallout from above ground test from the 1940s-1960s
southern Utah got as much as in the red area of your map over a hundred times

...

uh... right...

this is not good. exit Co, XO, Navigator, CIC watch officer and Command Master Chief. flooding in three compartments, means she is taking in a lot of water. Those compartments might mean berthing compartments, ammo storage and electronic components. Gonna mean a long hard ship yard period. If a ship takes a collision on her starboard side from the bow to 55 degrees behind the bridge on a axial of 000 to 145 degrees on a 360 degree plot, the ship on your right has right of way and is the hold on vessel and you are the give way vessel. International rules of the road, unless a chinese cosco ship was involved. they drive ships like they drive cars. Yup, the skipper is packing as we speak. A sad way to end a most honorable Navy career.

The destroyer didn't get out of the way so it got spanked by a PI ship that suffered far less damaged.

It's an older ddg. Look at the hull number.

it always boils down to inattentive bridge and CIC (combat info center) watch standers who did not keep a eye on the surface radar plot. perhaps the bridge didn't call the CO, perhaps they did. in any and every event the CO of a US Navy ship is 100% responsible for what his vessel does every minute he/she is in command till he or she turns the keys over to a new CO. As i stated earlier, there are RULES OF THE ROAD. it takes years to fully understand them and to operate within them assuming every surface radar contact is not adhering to the rules and you have to maneuver early and responsibly to avoid any such contact. one rule of thumb is every surface radar plot showing the course and speed of every other ship on that plot with a closest point of approach (CPA) of 10,000 yards or less, the CO in 99% of these approach's demands in standing and night orders to notify the CO forthwith so the most experienced officer or senior enlisted Chiefs (yes, chiefs do stand bridge watch's-and i did them as a second class petty officer surface warfare designated) have notified the CO in what is called CBDR or constant bearing decreasing range at sea situations take place. SNAFU and FUBAR are the words of the day.

That's assuming they weren't entering or leaving port with very narrow lanes, but like all things on the internet, people like to comment without knowing all the facts.

so, it will come down to the recorded events. yup, every USN ship records all of its radar, air, surface and sonar contacts are retained in electronic format so that the complete plot can be recreated. where Fitzgerald was hit is just behind the bridge and into the CIC area along with hitting some of the radar cooling areas and electronic warfare equipment. this is gonna be a 10-15 million dollar fix not knowing if she was holed below the water line and if so how bad and in how many compartments (large rooms where berthing, storage and other stuff is kept) each compartment is a water tight compartment if certain conditions are observed underway. normal steaming is all scuttles open with select hatch's open or not open in the event of a combat event takes place or you hit or hit by something.

and for not moving they are lucky we didn't launch any weapons and sink them to the bottom of the ocean. we don't take shit from lesser countries. So all of them.

>Remember that lighthouse they made get out of their way?

You do know that never happened right? Are you really that gullible faggot?

>snopes.com/military/lighthouse.asp

You're out of your element, Donnie.

>implying fantasy can never be used as commentary on reality

Dude was CO for 1 month! He's been sucking hind tit for 3 years on that boat and finally gets his dream job and completely and utterly fucks up! His ass even got flown off the boat due to his "injuries". Seven nigger sailors (non swimming kind) in the drink.

Drunk squids

Nobody noticed the dent in the side of the navy ship, and realizes there's a difference between hitting and being hit. The cargo ship obviously hit the side of the navy ship, because the dent's on the side.

>Nobody noticed

Idiots or trolls.

And AIS that reports the location, heading and speed of all traffic. How can you fuck this up? CO not sleeping these nights I promise you that. Good chance they will an hero.
