Moving to this city from sweden next month for school, CC. Anyone on here that is from the Santa Cruz area and could tell me more about it?
Moving to this city from sweden next month for school, CC...
Been there once around over a year ago for a school trip. The boardwalk is nice and plenty to do. The town itself, im not sure as we were mostly at the boardwalk. There was a huge fire around there awhile back.
forest raves and smoke seshes at College 9 and Porter meadows at the UCSC campus. A street of bars like Red Room and Motiv being the best for clubbing
Pretty laid back city, good amount of homeless people around downtown and such but not too bad. Easy to get a card, chill retro feel to the city. Beach is just ok, but might be pretty good compared to Sweden standards.
In terms of people UCSC has alotta foreign kids so your CC prob does too. Most people are nice, maybe too nice.
Vad är det du ska plugga?
>inne före denna tråd börjar handla om integration och invandring
Grew up there. Just moved away. It's a great town really. I miss it. If you want to chill go walk along west cliff. Also plenty of secluded places to go smoke a blunt. That's pretty big there if you're into it.
On the other side of the mountain (highway 17) from the Silicon Valley (Santa Clara County) and San Francisco/Oakland/Berkeley. I have coworkers who live there and I live in San Jose. We work in SJ. The other posters describe Santa Cruz right.
Another swede here, whats the deal with americans and weed? why does it sound like it´s their favoirte pastime
The people of California and other states just past laws legalizing recreational use of it. I guess it's like a kid that finally gets something and can't stop playing or talking about it. The feds still considers weed illegal.
Where is College 9? I'm going to Cabrillo
What about surfing? Is there plenty of it over there? I would like to start surfing but don't know where to start or how
Psykologi, är du där nere eller i närheten av området?
Big time into weed here. How are the girls in Santa Cruz? Another question, my school will be in Aptos, is Aptos like Santa Cruz? It's apparently like 30 mins with bus (I won't have a car)
Nej, hemma i svedala, brorsan däremot ska också flytta till den amerikanska västkusten till hösten.
user aptos is not santacruz but its a 30 min drive away with a lil traffic the girls are fine. for surfing go to a local surf shop like oneils and ask where you can get surfing lessons or see if someone will teach you. as far as weed goes you cant just smoke it in public there are plenty of weed clubs around but you need a medical marijuana card from a little weed pharmacy they are easy to get. the bus is two dollars and there are plenty of bus stops going to and from aptos to santa cruz.
The bay area while geologically is amazing....the people fucking suck, it's expensive as shit to live here, and way to many crimes. Thanks section 8!
I'd stay away bro. Seriously.
Most likely I will live in Santa Cruz and commute by bus to Aptos. All apartments and shared rooms seem to be in Santa Cruz, mostly downtown. When I'm there I'm thinking about just walking in to cafés and shops and ask if they need extra staff. Do you think this might work? I've heard Santa Cruz is a good area for this
I go to UCSC, most people are chill but there are some annoying ass hippie fucks too
if your refering to getting a job you should always ask for an application at the business and fill one out then they will review it and if they wan to interview you they will call you or send you and email
Be careful of some of the cheaper rental areas, particularity beach flats. It's ghetto in a big city way, which is weird for a small town. Unless you are experienced with that type of ghetto, I could see it being overwhelming. Midtown and Seabright are a little better. Pergs is the best coffee house, the Catalist can be good. If you get to the farmer's market right at closing, you can get a ton of free shit. There are caves underneath the UCSC campus. 420 is truly something to behold there. Nobody is all that hot in santa cruz, unless you like fat blue haired women and nasty surfer dudes.
UCSC students are by far the most annoying people in santa cruz. Every local knows this.
Transferring from a community college this fall. How many fucks are given about weed there?
>Is it true?
>Watches at 0 $?
I can't apply legally because I'm an international student. I have to do it under the table, hence walking straight into a place and asking for work
Nope just liberal west coast faggot loser dead beats who don't know what having a productive hobby is. Talk about smoking weed all the time.. For example id tell you to join one of the RC flying groups in the area. Or see what kind of maker spaces are available, and if their shit or half way decent.
Literally you can go clubbing smoke weed, drink, Fuck bitches anywhere on earth besides like Antarctica and north Korea... Why waste your time on it? I'd say shoot some guns... But it's commieforina in the end...
user MEET UP?
Sure, I don't know anyone in the city
I live in Aptos, have my whole life
Can you tell me more? Especially about Cabrillo College
Cabrillo is really chill. It's between Capitola and Aptos which are arguably the best parts of the county. Awesome library and community at the college, watch out for summer classes though cuz they have a high school dual enrollment thing. Little cheeto fingered fucks everywhere
Does Aptos have a "downtown" or street with a lot of shops and such? Just somewhere where I could walk in and ask if they need extra worker
Safeway and the rancho del Mar shopping center are your best bet. You could also try Deer Park Center, lot more family businesses that would pick you up. There is no 'downtown' as it's super small and kinda scattered around
I hope you don't mind being stoned for the next four years.
Thanks a tons, screenshotted this. Anything else I should know of before getting there? Tips and tricks to get around and "be local"?

The only things you need to worry about are weed and the homeless. They won't bug you, they'll just piss you off because they exist. Unless you like weed because it's literally everywhere. Also don't play in the streams leading into the ocean, shits toxic. Good luck brother, hope to run into you someday
You might want to get a bicycle. And if you can afford it a cheap old toyota or nissan car.
Don't over worry about being local.
PS: People surf in northern California. However water is cold as fuck.
Hardly any fucks given. They have a huge 420 smoke celebration on campus, you can youtube it. UCSC looks like an ewok village.
