Someone please explain to me how the Russians hacked the election. Did they hack the election booths and change votes? If they didn't do that, then what is "it" that Russia did that makes Trump's victory illegitimate?

Vote tally centers in FL, GA, MI, NC, PA, and WI were all breached on election night according to the NSA and the FBI. Vote counts were likely altered in those states. Trump won all 6 of these states coincidentally.

They did not hack election booths, no. I think what's believed to have happened is that Russia hacked social media or other online hubs of activity (like Sup Forums) to spread misinformation. This misinformation campaign involved targetting individuals in swing states, and filtering the videos or information these people saw on facebook. They would filter out all the bad stuff about trump, and promote slanderous videos about hillary. For more about this tactic learn about slide threads on pol.
Another thing that the Russians are accused of doing is hacking wikileaks and rereleasing info about the email scandal at a critical time before the election. Wikileaks info is classified information that has been leaked, but because it could potentially risk national security (news stations realize this) it cannot all be brought to the publics attention. So wikileaks is in charge of formulating the "schedule" for when the info is leaked. Russia fucked around with this schedule I guess.
If this all seems overly confusing, uneccesarily complicated, and utterly retarded to you, you'd be completely correct. The classified information that exposes corruption and abuse of power is readily available to and already known by the government and the news but not to the public.
