First time visiting Mexico since I was like 8 (I'm 19 now). What should I expect besides Mexicans? Going specifically to Mexico City.

Crowded, smell of something burning, street vendors yelling, alot of walking, and don't take out anything expensive especially at night

Also at gas pumps people will fill up your car for you, at toirist areas there will be alot of beggar's so be careful, its hot so stay hydrated, and if a cop stops you for a bullshit reason then dabate him or pay him to go away scott free.Also don't show any signs of being a foreigner people will try to fuck with you as in mug you, scam you, cops will try to make you pay bullshit fees.
So protip dont show off your murican side

Wear strictly "Fuck Donald Trump" shirts and become king of the Mexicans. You will get free shit from them and they will also not rape and kill you.

Expect to get fuckin dead. Mexico is literally the Wild West times ten. Criminals give zero fucks there now. My parents have stopped visiting family since last year.

They hold up busses that leave directly from airports because they know tourists and foreigners are on them. Hotels aren't safe because you never know if some rival cartel member may be staying at one and a shootout may ensue. Fuck man even in the main airport in Mexico City there was a shootout between cartel members and police, they actually shot their way out of the place and escaped.

It's a treat watching Mexican news because of just how fucked that entire country is.

OP here we are going to be visiting family in the farm before we leave. The only way there is bus and im terrified to death that it will get stopped by cartel or some shit. May the gods be with me.

Yea I know someone who used to visit somebody who was like a father figure to him. He was taking the bus when mid trip it got stopped. Some guys got on and somebody in the back of the bus made a problem about giving up all his stuff. They shot him dead. My friend said that was the last time he'd visit somebody in Mexico.

An uncle of mine who lives in Mexico regularly visits the family here in the states. Whenever we ask about how bad it is etc he always says "it's alright nothings that bad like they say". We ask him because he's always going on huge trips across Mexico. The last time we asked him he just took a second and shook his head. He mentioned how he had stayed at a hotel near the water and one morning when he woke up he noticed that the staff was sweeping and mopping up the lobby area. When he got closer he realized it was all just blood and that the night before there was a shootout and somebody died.

I've literally got dozens of these stories. Mexico is one of the worst places to be on earth right now

It used to be that it was good in nice areas and bad in poor areas but times have changed. It's less distuinguishable now who is living in "good" areas. And cartels literally have no boundaries. They straight up run the government.

i live near michoacan(colima), literaly a narcos nest and in the eyes of the us media the modern wild west.
i have never seen armed people nor shootouts,
also i have never ever been assaulted or harassed.
you will go to mexico city, very far from the frontier,and thus far from narco land.
expect the exact same threads as in any big over crowded city.

I have relatives living in Mexico like you. They're literally oblivious to everything and carry on with their lives as if they're living in some normal country. You're right though, chances are OP will be fine and get to see Mexico and it will be a decently fun team trip. But those are dangerous chances.

Did you hear the story about the family driving on the highway at night that was pulled over by some bandits. They shot the infant dead then raped the wife and daughter while forcing the husband/father to watch. Then took all their possessions including their car and left them to walk several miles to a road stop all the while carrying their dead infant. Correct me if I'm wrong but this wasn't too far from Ciudad de Mexico am I right?

Dude ive been to mexico like five times, nothing happened. Its actually pretty rare, cartels only do that when they are desperate and tgey are usually in chihuahua. Op will be ok

OP will PROBABLY be ok. Obviously hundreds of people go to Mexico and are totally fine. But don't try to write it off as if terrible atrocities only happen in a few select places in Mexico. The entire country is fucked and only being more consumed by death. I've gone to Mexico dozens of times but over the last 5 years I've made the decision that I'll never go back again.

It's pretty much the only place I feel like that as I'm down for going anywhere Brazil included
