>Q&A star Duncan Storrar puts a human face on the budget battle
>Duncan Storrar's appearance on Monday night's Q&A threw the post-budget back-and-forth into sharp relief. On national television, the 45-year-old father-of-two put a human face on a debate that had been little more than nebulous sound bites about "growth" and "fairness".
>What rich people call a milkshake and a sandwich – people at my end of the scale call that a meal for my family
>"People just have no idea what it's like for people like me," he told Fairfax Media after the program.
>Mr Storrar is a part-time truck driver with two daughters and a mental health issue. He earlier told Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer he had spent his whole working life on the minimum wage, distilling a common critique of the budget to personal experience.
>"You're gonna lift the tax-free threshold for rich people," he said. "Why don't I get it? Why do they get it?"
>He was referring to the government's move to lift the upper end of the 32.5 cent tax bracket from $80,000 to $87,000 - saving $315 a year for people earning more than $80,000. What does Sup Forums think of this obvious upstanding citizen and his predicament?
Liam Price
>hurr gibsmedat Sounds like a nigger. >upstanding citizen Do you mean welfare leech?
Colton White
TRICKLE DOWN WILL FIX IT.
JUST LOOK AT HOW WELL IT WENT IN THE U.S.!!!!
Eli Gonzalez
>stupid cunt who ive seen 100 times on facebook since he was on qanda >represents a great deal of australia's understanding of politics >wants more gibs so he can buy food for his daughters but we all know he'd just spend it on smokes and truck stop food
should have been left to die as a child in my opinion mate
Camden Clark
He works for minimum wage his whole life, yet he has two daughters. Can we gass this pale nigger?
Mason Harris
I think one of the panel members in the show pointed out that he wouldn't actually pay any net tax because of the benefits he receives in addition to his minimum wage, but this, of course, has been ignored entirely.
Jack Barnes
>gets given money for nothing >wastes it on shit instead of saving >cries poor >bleeding hearts libfags saying everyone should gibshimdat >If you don't you have no compassion/intolerant/*insert insult here* I hate this country sometimes.
Noah Morris
How many of u arseholes make more than 80k? This cunt seems awwrite.
Josiah Martinez
oh, the Australian mentioned that part as a "heartless ploy by a man wearing a tie worth more than Duncan's annual salary"
Ryan Watson
What you alt-right faggots are ignoring, is that he was not really the issue. Just another "battler" meme man.
The issue was the was our elite, our conservative elite, are pushing a one size fits all trickle down neo-liberal playbook to very complex issues.
If I was advising the LNP, firstly I would be telling them to NOT try and win this election, it is a poison chalice. Recession is unavoidable.
Secondly - DO NOT try and defend trickle down tax breaks, EVER. Do not twist and turn and mealy mouth excuses for a zombie idea. All she had to do was acknowledge his pain and say they are working towards fixing it. getting all Milton Friedman and defending the very notions that have train wrecked the U.S. is not going to win anything. It was a bad move.
Jaxon Torres
>What does Sup Forums think of this obvious upstanding citizen and his predicament? Income tax is criminal and perpetuates this whole inane discussion between "us and them". Dialog is "why does so-and-so get this, and I don't", because everyone is competing to get money they already worked for BACK from the damn Government.
It applies to all levels. States compete at the fed level to try and get whatever "money" back to their constituents through whatever dumb pork barrel project they can get stuck in some completely unrelated bill that gets passed for no particular reason.
In one move the Federal Government got us all competing with eachother rather than competing with the Federal Gov. Everyone, at all levels, sucks that Federal tit.
And it isn't like all problems would be solved if Federal income tax were abolished, but damned if it wouldn't be one huge first step in right direction.
Ryder Watson
i hate this country's main stream of political opinions. you know, the ones influenced by muh feels
Josiah Jones
this guy is disabled and works a low income job yet decides to have two children
he also complained about having to pay GST on everything he buys even though everyone pays the same as he does
he's just a bogan gibsmedat that thinks the world owes him something
he looks like he reeks of ciggies and bong water too
Lucas Scott
Bloody oath. Fucking sickens me that this is what elections and politics has been reduced to.
Brayden Jones
>battler Can we please stop this meme?
Jackson Wilson
thinking he's a bogan gibsmedat is "alt-right now"?
i didnt know it was edgy to champion personal responsibility
i do agree that a recession is coming though
Daniel Roberts
you are so fucking un-australian! repent and put a cricket bat in the air and pray to Hughsey for forgivness
Ian Fisher
that has fuck all to do with it. its annoying coz the cunt probably does fuck all and probably gets a shitload of neetbux for muh learning disabilities yet still wants more. hes a retard poof yet all of australia is congratulating him on having the capacity of a 10 year old
Lucas Foster
Is more than $87000 considered rich now? Fuck that stupid tax bracket. >80,000 - 180,000
Ethan Barnes
ever since that lovely Q and A episode we all watched monday night ive seen this cunts face everywhere all over jewbook. the australian populace think hes some sort of hero and "knows more about economics than anyone on the panel", which holds true for the greens retard that was there
all of these sjws seem to be getting gst and income tax confused, it just shows how illiterate they are on the subject, although we all knew that anyway rofl
the sjw response to that is "everyone is entitled to have children (regardless of their financial background), are you trying to be an asshole or something? have some fuckin respect" followed by moralfagging to the end of time
Isaac Watson
here in the uk, lorry drivers for supermarket chains can earn well over 60k GBP per year if they put in the hours, what exactly is this dipshits problem?
>greens
oh i see
Thomas Martinez
anyone who is working is considered rich
the socialist supporters of labor and greens would love to have the same tax brackets as FDR did in the states because muh bourgeois, muh 1%
Adam Gutierrez
While i don't particularly like this guy. I think the Liberals are fuckwits 90% of the time and only vote for them because Labor are fuckwits 95% of the time.
Trickle down economics is a fucking meme at this point and the liberals are going to get fucking creamed meaning because they pull retarded fuckbrained stunts like this shitpile i get another two terms of the fucking greenies and labour cucking my shit up.
THANKS BASED TONES YOU DID IT.
FUCK.
Luke Fisher
Look I wont defend him - I don't know his personal circumstances.... you can call him what you want - but the boom we just went through has caused a huge gulf in the economy, people like him HAVE fallen into the gap. I live in W.A. and the amount of homeless skyrocketed, WHILE we had a boom. Explain to me how that is remotely fair, or decent?
House prices out the arse personal debt out the arse huge cost in everything political cycle that is in a death spiral
This is only going to get worse now that the bubble has popped. Personally I cannot wait, its what we deserve for voting for two major parties that suck the big australia, neo-liberal, mineral councils cock.
Brayden King
Yea right, people having children they can't support are the foundations of poverty and having a shitty country. Why can't smart successful people have more children.
Gabriel Jones
I wonder what made him decide it would be a good idea to procreate not once, but twice, while employed as a part-time truck driver with mental health issues.
Cameron Ramirez
> didnt see a "gibs me dat" > dude is getting long-donged by taxes > "b-b-b-but everybody pays dem taxes > making a fat tax break for the wealthy while the poor keep getting boned
explain this shit faggot.
and im not talking about just income taxes, im talking about sales taxes, VAT taxes, excise taxes, stamp taxes, payroll taxes etc etc etc
businesses (and business owners) dont pay goddamned taxes faggot, they get rolled down the hill onto the poor, taxing the poor again is just taxing them double .
a tax break for the bottom makes poor people's lives measurably better, a tax break at the top just makes rich people's lives a tiny fraction richer.
Eli Baker
>work part time >doesnt have enough money to feed family
hmm
Nathaniel Mitchell
>dude is getting fucked by taxes but he's not paying taxes, he's paying a GST that everyone pays when they buy something
Lincoln Robinson
>gofundme com/23hcwd8
William Evans
...
Daniel Sanders
>mental health issues
Oh, I wonder why?
What I wonder is why some woman went along with it.
Aiden Murphy
>loves weed >can't function in hs >hs dropout >only job can get is truck driver >has kids >wonders why he's poor life choices are a bitch
Luke Davis
Listen fuckhead, this cunt doesn't even pay taxes, in fact its likely the opposit. He gets money from the taxpayers cause he's a bit of a special snowflake... That GST that he pays every time he goes into the supermarket probably ends up straight back in his own wallet.
Joseph Gomez
what i wonder is how much he's claiming for it.
he should be getting free welfare money out the ass for his low income, casual work, family assistance and disabilities
fucker probably get's more dosh than i do.
Kayden Wilson
cant wait to see what ''''''''necessary'''''''''' items he chooses to spend all this money on
Jordan Gutierrez
But he can't take 'mah kidz to da pictures' What a load of shit, work like everyone else or don't have children you can't support.
Isaac Adams
Because they know if it all goes pear shaped they can get looked after by centrelink
Thomas Cook
>movies in southbank cost $11 for an adult >he cant afford to save less than $30 to see Captain America with his kids
John King
>he's not smart enough to just torrent the cunt and buy some microwave popcorn
Benjamin Evans
why have kids? If you're in that situation why have kids?
Jacob Stewart
>he cant afford a computer for his kids because he spent it all at the pub.
>minimum wage >living in melbourne supporting a family
Leo Myers
rare katter
Lincoln Sanders
I think that $87,000 isn't a lot of money and you guys should be raising it higher.
Why should the middle class guy be getting butt fucked by taxes while he could start working full time hours?
Joshua Jenkins
Truckers don't make minimum wage m80.
Brayden Clark
>be winning party >declare money for dem programs needed >tax the middle class and start eroding them away >need more money for more programs >tax the middle class more and erode them further >guis we need dem programs money! >more taxes for middle class >election period comes >guis we need money for dem programs because the right wing nazis are making people poor, it's totally not us! >win spend more taxes on dem programs >need more money fo dem programs
William Hernandez
This
Hunter Lopez
I just watched a clip of this, it was fucking retarded.
>Duncan: "Why are you making rich people pay less tax not poor people like me?" >Some pollie who seemed alright: "The reality is that you wouldn't pay much tax, if any at all, would you Duncan?" >Duncan: "B-but I pay tax every time I drive my car, e-every time I go to the supermarket." *crowd cheers uproariously*
Was this retard actually saying that poor people should somehow be exempt from GST? And that you could fund this by not lowering the second tier tax bracket a small amount?
Jaxson Allen
Perhaps he'd have some money if he didn't waste it on a case of VB every week, and a pack of smokes per day. To make things even worse, this vermin, this scum reproduced and will only perpetuate his problem down onto future generations.
Nathaniel Wood
what part of "Not Just Income Taxes" did you fail to grasp you faggots?
a couple years ago i totted up my yearly tax burden and it was goddamned 40% when income, sales, VAT, excise, stamp etc etc etc taxes were tallied.
i got to keep only 60% of my income, which then had to pay all of my expenses leaving me precious little as "profit" while the corproate tax structure is designed to tax them only AFTER their expenses are met.
why the double standard?
since companies dont actually pay taxes, as they are just another expesnse, they can make US pay their taxes, which means i get taxed even more, but this time i cant even see it to total it up.
you can EITHER tax businesses, OR tax people, to do both is taxing the people twice.
fuck, if they taxed me AFTER my expenses (food housing clothing, transport etc) that wouldnt be so bad, but i dont even get that weak, ineffectual reacharound, i just get railed in my ass over and over and over, plus with the new Obamacare Mandate i am forced to pay even more.
fuck yourself with a fire hydrant.
Ryder Stewart
Dude so fucking right, I work shifts on weekends and nights occasionally, to earn that extra dosh and I'm approaching that tax bracket. I know of people that plainly just stop working this time of year so they don't breach the $80,000.
Luke Taylor
use the second amendment
Owen Sanchez
Yes, local Australians should be supported in their decision to have children so that you don't have to import people to replace you, cunt.
Gavin Gutierrez
Why are you talking about your taxes and your country, you can fuck off m8. You're totally fucking irrelevant here with your obamacare bullshit. >probably can't even watch Q&A
Ryan Green
This is correct.
Justin Perez
family and childcare benefits should be abolished
Jacob Lewis
I seriously thinking about just moving to dumb fuck and mooching the dole, just have a garden an shit. Both major parties don't give a fuck about anything but how much money they can take off me and then give to some worthless cunt.
David James
why?
Matthew Green
> pretending ausfailia's taxes are completel;y unrelated to similar taxes levied in the US
keynesian economics is fucking everyone but you fags think it's grand. fuck yourself straya.
Andrew Powell
The entire tourism industry to countries with a weaker currency than your own is based on trickle down economics.
Why is Bali so popular Why is Thailand so popular Why is Vietnam so popular
Because their currency is weak ours is stronger so we can spend more.
Luke Moore
you think thats going to stop our insanely high levels of immigration? think again mr leaf
sure its a positive making sure more FUCKING WHITE MALES have children but committing to it while on minimum wage is pretty poor decision on anyones behalf
Gabriel Sanchez
Because you should't have children or get married because you can get a tax break, if your're not financially prepared to have a child then don't.
Nathan Bell
>over $80 thousand per year >rich
???
Luke Kelly
>not taxing the rich harshly enough is why America is so fucked up But that's not true, muh tax the rich is bait and switch bullshit that has nothing to do with any real issues, no-one would care how much the rich people made or how little in tax they had to pay if they were making a decent living themselves but they're not so they do. Stop getting played so easily, would taxing the rich really help the guy from the OP all that much?
Angel Jackson
>Minimum wage his whole life >two kids
Why?
Did anyone ask him why he decided to take on one of the biggest expenses one can take on in life, not once but twice, while making minimum wage?
I don't understand. No one will pity me when I default on my Lamborghini payments when I work at the local woolies yet we're meant to pity this man who's not progressed career wise his whole life and then decided to have two kids?
David Garcia
So drive the birth rate down and import more chinks and shitskins? Ok ahmed nice try
Ryan Taylor
Keeping your own money isn't a gibsmedat you dumbass
Jaxon Cooper
I agree but recession is avoidable. The answer is ALWAYS trickle-up rather than trickle-down. Cut the taxes that affect the poor and you will see the best effect.
Demand-side policy that works is simply expand the deficit until unemployment reaches the target rate, say, 2%. It's not rocket science. We understood it from WW2 until 1975 when the (Labor) government chose to stop for misguided reasons.
Labour force underutilisation (unemployment + underemployment + long-term unemployed not counted for inactivity) is around 16%. Well gee whiz I wonder why we're gonna have a recession. We need yuge fiscal expansion and neither major party is offering it.
Camden Wood
You really are fucking stupid.
Julian Anderson
Based trips speaks the truth
Nathaniel Fisher
The only reason government needs to import immigrants is to broaden it's tax base because it has an unmanageable rate of public spending. Which is why you need to cut it, cutting child benefits would be one of the cuts I'd suggest.
Connor Adams
He's complaining about tax reductions for people richer than himself. Why? Likely because he expects the government to facilitate the exchange of wealth from them to him.
Connor Johnson
At least you aussies don't have as many of these people as we bongs do.
Zachary Stewart
you would rather have 8 kids from minimum wage joe of 36yrs of age?
Gavin Walker
Please explain, don't just insult me and leave it at that. Refute
Carter Phillips
We have exactly the same bullshit in British politics at the moment.
The Conservative government has abolished income tax for all the lowest-paid people and is raising the minimum wage to a living wage. Yet nothing can ever be enough for these perennially-entitled cunts who are mostly poor because of their own fecklessness.
Liam Young
do people really think making 80000 a year makes you rich?
Carter James
you're in the top 25-30% of income earners in australia if you earn over 80k, so to them you're the evil rich minority, or some shit
Cooper Torres
Of course goy, it's why filthy rich $80,000 a year fellows are grouped with $180,000 fellows in the same tax bracket, they're both stinking rich.
I do hope they raise the tax free bracket to $30,000 and drop the high income bracket to $70,000 just to appease these fucks. It'll be wonderful to watch
Asher Wood
They do, they lack the ability to see reality for what it is so they get triggered by big sounding numbers. Even though 80,000 or even 1,000,000 is not that much in the grand scheme.
Tyler Cox
In the 1960s, the minimum wage was $15 2016 dollars in silver quarters.
This man should be more focused on fixing money, rather than redistributing wealth, that largely comes from reckless deficit spending and QEs.
Gavin Evans
should crack it this year
Kevin Gonzalez
Thank you for your contribution to my gaming pc
Adrian Nelson
>1,000,000 is not that much in the grand scheme mate you low fookin dog. Jew cunt.
Owen Evans
you're right, 80K isnt even middle class. 1 million isnt rich. dumb cunts like duncan think youre rich if you make a number too big for him to understand
Luke Watson
>mental health issue >has children I'm not saying we need eugenics but the government shouldn't subsidize retards having kids
Caleb Price
np m8 ;^)
Logan Watson
do you think people who make 1 million a year are rich? seriously? they're middle class
Wyatt Roberts
1 million smackers a year is Scrooge mcduck tier m8.
Richie fuckin rich. No Home Brand food in the pantry at all.
Samuel Morris
are you trolling?
Levi Lewis
>are you trolling? I can't afford to troll on this bloody website m8. I only earn minimum wage.
Elijah Walker
Keep it up wagecucks. Stacy needs another abortion and I need a new GPU.
Hunter Baker
I might be $5000 under 80k. last year I moved into the third bracket and I've only been working over here since march 2014
Jack Bell
>saving up for a GPU. >not for a new car so you can get work so you can buy a new GPU AND a cancer brand mouse
Andrew Hughes
Not an argument
Aiden Scott
Working men of this thread. It is only natural survival instinct to want to keep most of your income you workes for so you can sustain a family and a positive birth rate. Still, we realize we need a government for running a country (refer to Somalia for a great example of a government-free nation). It is not fair, that after you surpass a certain income limit you are untouchable by the taxman, since that budget deficit will be robbed from you by raising/creating new taxes. What do? Any ideas?
Asher Williams
The tax cut benefits anyone earning more than than the median income. I.E 50 per cent of the population. This is not a trickle down
Dylan Reyes
that is pretty rich in australia. everyone totes muh minimum wage but our median wage is pretty shit at A$80k per household (as in two people's income) with an extremely high cost of living.
my rich parents get rekt this budget due to super changes while my poor ass doesn't gain or lose much of anything. sasuga australia, maybe next year.
>yfw read statistics about how 50% of people in my demographic pay negative tax thanks to benefits. somehow i always seem to always be in the wrong 50%. guess thats the price you pay for the pride of not being a useless cunt.
Jonathan Robinson
That doesn't make sense, you only get taxed a higher rate on each dollar over the threshhold
