Playing what's meta is only really relevant in higher elo, so high diamond and above. Having a small champion pool to start that you're comfortable with is the best way to improve starting out climbing

Personally i think the meta leans way to much towards ad characters and tanks, making mid ap and jungle ap mains like me be turned away from it.

HotS is way better. Trimmed the rest of the fat that LoL missed when it was copying DotA.
Wasting time picking what items to buy and laning just puts bullshit between you and playing the game. Why do you want to spend 10 minutes killing ai, farming xp, waiting for the real game to start?
