I just spent about an hour clicking around metal albums on YouTube
>one million djent guitar playthroughs >one million slam-core albums >one million deathcore album >one million tech-death albums >one million beatdown hardcore albums
They all sound completely identical, and none of them are good. I have never seen such a high saturation of heavy albums, yet hardly any of them are interesting in any way.
It seems like heavy music has become culturally irrelevant but people are making more of it than ever.
I really didn't like Sunbather that much, but that was one of the last metal albums I can think of that was somewhat innovative and brought non-metal fans into metal
Ayden Barnes
Cassidy Banks is so fuckin fine
Mason Taylor
Metal has been this way for years. This is not news, it's just that it's your first time digging into it.
Noah Torres
>he doesn't like thicc lowkey fag/low test detected
i mean, nigs dont like metal, so thats your explanation
Brody Allen
my dick...
Connor Baker
The thing that made metal good is undoubtedly the awesome riffs. All these monkeys ever do these days is just slamming on 5th chords with shit tons of distortion in them. No talent whatsoever.
Jaxon Perez
I can actually tolerate the fact that Easy-core all sounds exactly the same and they haven't innovated since like 2009. They have very pleasant melodies and catchy hooks so whatever.
Metal is supposed to be pushing the limits in instrumentation and new sounds and all that, but I rarely hear anything that blows my socks off.
Dominic Hughes
If I were a nigger, do you think I would bother searching through metal and then make a thread about it?
Obviously I like metal.
Austin Ross
I'm sure shit like Code Orange's Forever got a lot of new people into heavier music.
Jeremiah Bell
Okay but we have reached the limits of riffage here. Every single idea has been pushed to the limits here.
Whether it's extreme technicality, breakdowns, polyrhythms, groove riffs, thrash riffs, slam riffs, or whatever, I have heard it a million times.
For example, this week I listened to new music from:
>Dying Fetus >The Acacia Strain >Enfold Darkness >Suffocation >Decrepit Birth >Hideous Divinity >Rings Of Saturn >a few others
a lot of it was kinda fun, but I probably won't listen to any of that music again. It wasn't memorable.
I don't give a shit what this post is about but my dick is hard
Ian Wilson
True. There was a brief period where Hardcore was doing some new things and bringing some people in, but that is already over.
Also, the aesthetics of hardcore music is extremely cringy.
Nathaniel Roberts
>Tfw when I play heavy metal and blacks and Mexicans are more into it than the white dudes Like, no one here will believe this but it happens, man. White dudes these days want to be black.
Brody Gutierrez
I need to give it another lesson. I absolutely wasn't in the mood at the moment, and I should've waited until I was. Honestly, I wasn't even expecting metal, and I had just got out of listening to another metal album.
Brody Howard
I feel you. There are hardly any interesting band to listen to in the heavier subgenres. The ones that are worth listening to are so far and few in between.
Yeah i don't even really like these guys that much.
It just makes me want to listen to The Faceless' Planetary Duality when I hear it.
Matthew Butler
I just want Converge to come out with some new material already. They don't really shake things up but they are at least consistent with their sound and pushing but balancing sounds in hardcore music. I deleted the drone and ambient tracks and just left the metal tracks on. Makes Sunbather actually enjoyable.
New Bermuda wasn't all that much better but I do like that it's easier to listen to as a full album than Sunbather was.
Camden Wright
Micheal Keene is such a fucking faggot I'd much rather support TZP than The Faceless (despite the fact they now share a guitarist). Planetary Duality is duly noted as a cornerstone of tech-death but its time has passed.
Jeremiah Diaz
Damn dude that shit sucks
Not being a dick, but what do you enjoy about that where you could listen to a 10 minute track of it?
Hunter Stewart
Yeah, though I still kind of prefer noisy rock/hardcore-ish music over metal. I kind of really got over all of those metal tropes. Started digging stuff like Unsane and Helmet currently.
Yeah I'm also looking forward to Converge. I doubt they even have the capabilities of not delivering at least 7/10 material.
Bentley Hernandez
Yeah Michael Keene is an absolute piece of shit. I think the other guitarist wrote a lot of the riffs for planetary duality, because everything The Faceless released after he left has been seriously dogshit.
I think Planetary Duality has aged well, I can't find another album in that genre that is catchy, has interesting riffs, is both heavy/technical, and has a really solid atmosphere too it.
TZP definitely do a good job trying to achieve that, but it just feels like a b-rate planetary duality. It doesn't have quite the atmosphere.
Lincoln Stewart
It sounds massive instead of flimsy like most black metal records. It's something I've wanted to hear forever but nobody ever did it the way I wanted. Too bad it's american though, it gave the genre a very bad reputation.
Connor Walker
Do you like old Norma Jean? I really like the feeling you get when you listen to their old stuff. It kinda feels like a french art film meets some sort of nihilistic dystopian wasteland. really unique stuff, wish they wouldn't have moved to the utter shit they are now playing.
I know what you mean, and I guess that's what makes it so great. There's nothing else like it, so why try and best it? He'll never have credit to anything like that album again. There are some really great tech-deathcore bands coming around though.
Core music is saturated because it's really just trying to outdo each other to gather as many young fans for commercialism.
Hardcore, doom, sludge, thrash, and crust is where it's at. Black metal is okay too sometimes. Is Khemmis Nu Male?
Cameron Garcia
Yeah I was once a fan, now not so much desu. Their recent album was a complete shitshow. The Chariot was a bit better than them in my opinion. At least they ended on a fairly decent note.
Oh yeah that asciarsis band is sick, I like those riffs. Not digging that Gravemind band though.
Have you seen these guys? They have so many good songs and so much atmosphere, it's insane. One of the only bands that I have found who can compete with the technical deathcore golden era.
Aside from traditional doom I think the consensus is that doom metal is a nu-male genre.
Noah Perez
Can someone explain to me what does nu male mean in the context of music for fucks sake? Are you describing the listeners or the sound?
Elijah Ortiz
Unsung EP by The Chariot is one of my favorite recordings of all time, and their debut album too.
It is seriously a work of art from a musical golden age. It's fucking raw and completely unhinged, never heard another album like that. I agree they quit at the perfect time though, they were just starting to decline and getting a little stale... I guess. Maybe. It would be bizarre if they were still around, I could not imagine them doing shows in the current musical climate.
Josh Scoggin's new project "68" is fucking garbage. I have no idea what he is trying to do. Some sort of noise-core white stripes hybrid thing?
Cooper Price
>treating a meme this seriously
youre retarded dude
Luis Ortiz
Wow I actually really like those Khemmis riffs, very epic. Horrible vocals though.
Sup Forumsfag metal purists always try to push the hardcore/doom/sludge memes off and say that all other metal is garbage, but like 95% of the metal out of that genre is so fucking boring and repetitive you can't even listen to it.
But Khemmis kind of reminds me of Baroness. I'm sure you've heard The Blue Album right?
It's the same kind of phenomenon that happened with emo. On one side you had kids into Pg.99 and on the other you had kids into My Chemical Romance.
Justin Ward
Not huge into Lorna Shore, I find them kind of lackluster desu. They have those old-school deathcore breakdowns and fat riffs that I can dig but aside from that I don't really find myself listening to them.
Why are there so many people that shit on Autotheism? It's a good album. Way better than Planetary Duality or Akeldama. The Zenith Passage is better at the 'Planetary Duality' sound anyway
Bentley Sullivan
I'm sure you too would love to have a discussion when someone keeps repeating "LALALALALALA GAYGAYGAYGAYGAY" everytime you mention some specific topic.
Jack Gonzalez
Wanna know why it was so great? Wes Hauch dude. The dude is a guitar wizard, his new band is way better too. Not as spacey as Keene likes his music to be but you can't deny those riffs.
This is the best metal album in recent memory. People meme on it just because it had so much hype, but the hype was deserved
Austin Flores
Red, Blue, and Purple are all sick albums. Yellow and Green weren't really doing much for me when they came out save for a few songs. I'm hoping the music doesn't suffer too much now that Pete Adams left the band and that they continue making stuff similar to what they did with Purple.
And yeah, Khemmis is a band that nails down a grand feeling in their music. They incorporate harsh vocals but I've gotten used to the cleans and they aren't too bad.
Also archspire are pretty ok, I can only listen to a few songs because of how incredibly obnoxious the writing gets. If they worked on their writing, they could be way better
Jose Moore
Lmao bruh Authotheism is so fucking bad
It was like if Opeth put on fedoras and started sharing athiest memes on Facebook. It had like one good song.
David Parker
Oh yes, very stoked on Inferi's forthcoming material. I only very recently got introduced to them and I took a liking to them real quick.
Yeah, Alluvial kicks ass, I've been following Keith Merrow for awhile. But I swear, Wes Hauch has based his whole career on becoming the second guitarist for already popular bands. The other band he recently joined (Black Crown Initiate) also kicks ass
The only good thing Autotheism ever had going for it was this motherfucking man right here.
Jackson Kelly
I saw Australian Death Machine in high school before whats-his-name went to prison.
10 hearty keks my man
I can't stand anything besides the blue album. The red album doesn't have enough hooks/poppy songwriting, and the purple album was WAY too sappy/atmospheric. Damn I forgot about tihs album, this is cool. Love the riffs.
Jace Ortiz
meant
Noah Williams
Fucking love artifical brain in small doses. Too much and I get bored, but they are definitely unique.
I get it though, seems like he's more of a session kind of guy rather than full time commitment save for BCI. Which sucks cause the man could create a legacy around his playing. I love that he takes so much influence from Dimebag. I don't give a shit for Pantera or the man himself but his playing was undeniably exceptional.
Ryder Stewart
I guess I can understand not liking the parts that were more theatrical. I really enjoyed that addition to their sound, it gave them more depth. And it's not like The Faceless was ever super original anyway, they just added Opeth and Cynic worship to their usual Necrophagist worship
Xavier Perry
Astronoid is tragically underrated.
James Richardson
Not a fan of Wes.
He is like if an 80's metal guitarist learned some modern riffing styles, which I guess is kind of cool, but I haven't heard anything he's written that didn't sound dialed in.
Isaac Anderson
>I haven't heard anything he's written that didn't sound dialed in The fuck does that even mean?
Lucas Stewart
Fucking right? They're supporting Tesseract right now. Who I also don't care much for but goddamn, I've never heard a better debut album in my entire life.
Kevin Brooks
Like uninspired, like he literally said "I am going to write a riff that sounds like this, and it is going to go right here".
Maybe hard to explain, but it feels kind of like forced maybe.
Jace Bell
is that not what writing music is
I get what you're saying, but I think you're really reaching here
Kayden Bailey
What do you guys think of He is Legend?
Not totally metal, but they are my favorite band. The new album is fucking insane. Here's one of the poppier songs off of it.
What, do you want to him to struggle to write his riffs and not know where he's going with his songs? At least one guy's getting what you're saying, I have no idea
Evan Carter
Fair enough. Blue does feel like their strongest album but I like how Red was this kind of weird project for the band to mess around with sounds and Purple just sounds like a really enjoyable common ground between what they had going on with Red and Blue and the more commercial sounds they wanted to achieve with Yellow and Green.
Xavier Perry
Yeah that is what writing music is.
Like it sounds very predictable. I know it is going to have a pentatonic lick, and I know it is going to be slightly influenced by a guitar trend that died 3 years ago.
His only trademark in his style is that he does this weird bend thing on the 6th string that sounds a little different from anybody else
Kayden Reyes
Are you fucking stupid? Why are ypu looking for good metal albums on youtube? Use rym
Luis Jackson
>rym
Tyler Cooper
metal, like rock, is currently stuck in a rut.
John Thomas
I was into them before they went rock. Now. Not so much. I. Am. Hollywood.
Jonathan Edwards
I like every single one of their albums. No matter what they do, it's like perfect. It Hates You was the most interesting thing they ever did imo. Dude what the fuck is up with that?
Why is rock/metal in such a rut? Is it white people? Is it politics? What's the deal here?
Christopher Sanders
Oceano?
Alexander Brown
I'd say if you want to point towards popular black dudes in metal then point towards Killswitch Engage from like 10 years ago.
Ice T also fronts a metal band. Will Smith's wife does too but they aren't as popular oddly enough.
Dominic Bailey
Listen to underground extreme metal instead of trendy core shit made for high school kids. There is a bit of an issue with by the numbers Deathspell Omega clones at the moment, but their is enough great stuff coming out that makes that irrelevant.
Niggers naturally enjoy more percussion-centered music similar to indigenous tribal music. The dark imagery of heavy music does not appeal to the negro either.
Metal appeals to the long heritage of white Europeans, and I could see it appealing to south americans as well because of their development in classical music and brazilian jazz.
Angel Morales
Everything posted in this thread is fucking shit, you all have absolutely no taste when it comes to metal. All i see is either core/djent/ and bad stoner/"sludge" garbage or hipster BM.
Yeah I've heard a lot of this type of stuff, that Tchornobog band is pretty good.
I like the instrumentation on this stuff, but the actual song writing is always lacking. It ends up being not memorable because the song writing is so all over the place. One band a little bit in this genre that has really good song writing is Bloodbath, lots of memorable parts and good structure
There's a reason that core stuff can be commercialized, and more purist stuff can't be. A lot of core music is far more memorable and fun to listen to than actual purist death metal.
Jonathan Harris
-Core music sucks.
Christopher Anderson
>music that people actually enjoy? TOTAL SHIT. check out these long list of horrible black-metal bands that sound identical
This is the worst Sup Forums poster. A person who actually believes that the more inaccesible their metal taste is, the better it is. You should actually kill yourself for posting that "blood tyrant" album. That is not music.
Ryder Kelly
>bloodbath is good >thinks core isn't shit I always knew bloodbath fanboys were fucking faggots
Henry Bennett
You a pussy.
Sebastian Gray
BASED. FUCK core music. Listen to some real death metal you faggots
>posts a bunch of shit that is boring and goes nowhere after 30 seconds
Black metal elitsts are fucking retards and their gay little group of circle jerk black metal bands will never go anywhere.
Core guitarists are objectively better than anything you posted, that's why people like them and they are actually capable of generating profit.
Bentley Robinson
>Neighbor is black >listens to metal on the constant >high school friend is black >used to be heavily into grind >Meet a black dude at work wearing a fucking parody shirt of SunO))) Fuck outta here, brah. The dude that runs Cvlt Nation is black too.
Why the fuck am I even bothering.
James King
>i am from the suburbs and I know some based black people
Joshua Morris
Only morons and 13 year olds inside of adult bodies love core faggotry.
Evan Hughes
>You should actually kill yourself for posting that "blood tyrant" album. That is not music kek typical mutant that could never get into the core of metal music, so instead plays around with shitty commercial stuff and gets defensive when others call him out for him being the equivalent of "the list goes on" meme. You're listening to basically the indieshit of metal.
Leo Richardson
IMO the songwriting style is what makes it so good, unlike core stuff, which is too close to pop music and too focused on hooks over immense atmosphere and twisted melodies for my taste ( though some bands, like Morbid Angel, can be really catchy). I get that there is a definite bar to entry though. It isn't accessible music.
I'm excited, I don't know any of these bands.
Tyler Reed
Yeah pretty much I guess. I get more negative and surprised reactions from white guys hearing I like metal than brown people though.
I also get the same shit from said white when I say I listen to hip hop as well. Guess I just shouldn't listen to or talk about music.
Samuel Bailey
Only kids who got bullied/sexually abused by their uncle grow up and pretend to like any of the shit you posted Nothing you posted will ever be accessible to the non-autist human ear and you should end your suffering
Liam Martinez
I didn't post the stuff, I just know you are a mainstream faggot. Go listen to hair metal.
Angel Gray
I would love to see a core guitarist try to write something like this.
