Fantano knows a lot more than most people about heavy rock music. But there are still serious limits to his music knowledge, as well as MANY blindspots. He seems to know very little about crust punk, anarcho-punk, deathrock, gothic country, the emo revival, and many other subgenres. He's also increasingly dismissive of albums, and doesn't go into nearly as much detail. He isn't careful anymore. You can tell with many of his newer reviews, he basically skimmed the album, probably only listening to parts of them. This is born out through the many inaccurate statements about the albums. He's obviously the best music critic on YouTube, but he's getting sloppier and weaker as time goes on. If someone talented, charismatic, and with good taste came along, there's no doubt in my mind he could be overtaken, and I'm sure he will be. Still, he did introduce me to some bands I like.

I feel mixed. I respect him for building his own little empire as an online music critic. But his reviews are so weak and dismissive, he praises such bland stuff, and he dismisses so many great bands, that I have trouble taking him seriously.
