Billy Cobham's album Stratus with underrated guitar hero Tommy Bolin is a masterpiece.

Check out Stratus- influenced a lot of people

The actual jam starts at 3:00

Herbie Hancock - Sextant, Thrust, and Head Hunters
Weather Report - Heavy Weather'
Soft Machine - Third
Bruford - Feels Good to Me
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Gorilla Mask - Iron Lung

Get that meatheaded metal-wankery out of this thread.

Now here's some great prog fusion for y'all

youtube.com/watch?v=oOPqBsVNmxw

One of the most underrated prog band

It's in my all-time top 50. Unbelievably underrated album. Man-erg is kind of cheesy though.

based Allan Holdsworth

youtube.com/watch?v=oHJrOg79kQU

VDGG is who you move onto once you've had enough of Floyd, Yes, Genesis and Crimson. Not that, THAT underrated desu. Also Italos took Pawn Hearts to the very top of their charts back in the day. Italian-heavy comment sections show the love is still strong.

Oh, yes. Here's something more:

>/moo/'s taste in prog/fusion is $4 record core
I'm not shocked but goddamn

>/moo/'s taste in prog/fusion is $4 record core
Why would that even matter?

...

this one is great too

It's the lame watered down commercial shit. Weather Report? Billy Cobham? Prog can already be goofy, but that's just next level CORNY, especially next to something like Steve Grossman - Some Things to Come

Yeah, Heavy Weather was really not one of Weather Report's proudest moments. I'm by the way. I haven't listened to Billy Cobham's solo albums, but I'm a fan of Mahavishnu Orchestra and John McLaughlin's projects. Any other recommendations? Perhaps some not very well known albums.

Let me go dig up some of my deep cuts real fast bud. Check out the Steve Grossman in the meantime—Grossman worked with Miles for a while and it shows. Also McLaughlin's debut LP is great, and Jaco pastorious's Word of Mouth kicks ass too

DEEP CUTS
Annette Peacock - X-Dreams AND I'm the One (this is barely fusion but its weird enough with Annette's weirdo vocals to qualify imo)
Alice Coltrane/Carlos Santana - Illuminations
Alphatarus - s/t
Ornette Coleman - Dancing in Your Head (fusion? Funk? Free jazz? This one is a fuckin TRIP)
James Blood Ulmer - Part Time
Irakere - s/t

Can anons rec some smooth Japanese smooth arcadey jazzy fusion like this?

youtube.com/watch?v=kTGr-HWBaT0

This is the complete normal bullshit that old people still like and buy on CD. Just look up shit like George Benson, Donald Byrd's later shit, Freddie Hubbard in the late 70s and 80s, and CTI records

Lol who the fuck plays guitar like Kazumi on any of those dad jazz records?

top notch jazz fusion coming through

Den za Den is GOAT

Thank you very much. I'm suspicious of Alice Coltrane's work, because I don't remember being so dissapointed by a jazz album since Journey in Satchidananda. Here are some of my recommendations:
youtube.com/watch?v=CZiKMFq70-U
csabatothbagi.com/Music.html
Jean-Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean
Al Di Meola - Casino
The Joe Harriott Double Quintet - Indo-Jazz Suite (first jazz fusion album)
Soft Machine - Bundles
Electric Outlet - On!
Jazz Is Dead - Blue Light Rain

>I don't remember being so dissapointed by a jazz album since Journey in Satchidananda
Journey is a super underwhelming album check out pic related instead

also Aurora is a really good Jean-Luc Ponty album

...

Thank you. How about some Pat Metheny recommendations? He's gone the path of smooth jazz, though I'm aware that most of his jazz fusion albums are highly revered. Essentials?

>disappointed
>by Journey
I have not recoiled in disgust by a single post so hard in a while

selim!

this is pure gold, Zappa was a god

>I have not recoiled in disgust by a single post so hard in a while
Try visiting Grimes general if you want disgust. But on a more serious note, even though it's not modal jazz, the album lacks a sense of direction. There are no interesting chord progressions, no standout songs, no memorable solos. But then again, how can one dare criticize what's sacred?

Nice meme

preach nigga im just finishing up joes garage rn

fpbp

Catholic Girls is one of the most hilariously sinister songs he's ever made. On the other hand, Watermelon in Easter Hay is the song one dreams of making as a musician. One of the greats of the 20th century, for sure.
