You'd be surprised, but I actually received an invitation by email from one of those guys to join them.
I got scared shitless because I have never showed any sign of interest on them.

Some lodges will have something like an open house where men who are interested can come and talk to members. You could also go to a community event sponsored by a lodge. Or befriend a brother and ask for an invitation.

From what i can tell its a religious Organization, hes a big protestant. It helps you get jobs, gives you a place to go if youre in a new town and its about friendship/drinking/singing.

I think theirs a slightly sinister element to it as well though, quite possibly its leaders are members of the Elite and use the club to help advance their own political objectives - probably profit maximisation as i'd imagine more than a few of them are in top positions with the banks or are politicians or journalists etc.

3. You go there once a week for 1-2 years to see if it is something you'd like to participate in (Normally there's one day a week for initiates)
4. You ask two members to vouch for you.
5. You get accepted.

From what I've read outside of this thread there are differences between lodges, but most accept you regardless of your beliefs or position in society.

Only entered apprentice, fellowcraft, and master mason are universally recognized. Scottish and York Rite are technically doing their own thing. Masons outside that right would not necessarily recognize any degrees above master

"Getting the next rank" is basically a myth. There is some old sect of freemasonry that did it, but normal lodges have members and administrative-"ranks". And there are some honorary positions for doing noteworthy humanist stuff. That's all. No secret higher positions.

I don't necessarily consider that a bad thing, it makes it something more exclusive and it keeps those who don't look for themselves and believe random theories out of it. Altough I have to admit those theories made me look up more about it, so I learned that it's about meeting new people and help correcting others problems to become a better man.
