So they're keeping the hardcore racism? Sweet.

as long as in invokes the same kind of feelings of existential nausea and fear

>What is Possession

>feminist upgrade

gas the left

I'm cautiously interested.

> as long as in invokes the same kind of feelings of existential nausea and fear

As someone who's watched the feminist "upgrade" of Ghostbusters, don't worry it'll definitely invoke those feelings even more.

>It's a "Women are unable to craft anything original or unique" episode.

Your shitmaster is about to be knocked off his pedestal.

>staring Melissa McCarthy and sarah silvaman
>comes a wacky tale about Yog-Sothoth the cosmic entity who just cant catch a break

It's such a strange sensation.

Over the last decade I went from being worried about Muslims killing everybody to looking forward to it.

>Shub-Niggurath will become a feminist icon

Reading the article, it really seems like this lady writer is trying to write a story set in Lovecraft's Dreamlands but, well, from a female perspective.

>Professor Vellitt Boe teaches at the prestigious Ulthar Women’s College. When one of her most gifted students elopes with a dreamer from the waking world, Vellitt must retrieve her.

Eh, to be fair Lovecraft didn't write that many female characters because 1) the male shut-in scholarly type just came naturally to him, and 2) he ultimately didn't care that much about characters anyway. He wasnt trying to explore or portray the human condition. On the contrary, his work is basically "all the reasons we think humans are special are total bullshit. our lives have no meaning our importance in a cosmic scale of things." Which doesn't really leave much room to write in favour of women's rights and what not...

But honestly, so much shit has been published in the past decades twisting Lovecraft in various ways (why, including many female-driven anthologies with a feminist bend) so, yeah, this is really nothing other than Wired pulling some clickbait our of their ass.

>A feminist upgrade
How self indulgent do you have to be, imaging if anyone else did this.

>A republican upgrade
>A Sup Forums upgrade
>A Reddit upgrade
>A 9gag upgrade

Even if it's something you like it's soooo fucking obnoxious.

See, this is why I don't read WIRED. Even IEEE has its share of this bullshit in its internal publications, there's no running away from it.

I don't even know what to say.

This is the kind of thing that's been turning me conservative over the years.

>kek
>privileged normielords appropriating my hopeless autist culture

Yeah the whole point of the lovecraft mythos is that humans don't matter at all.

Spinning that into some feminist power fantasy isn't gonna go well.

IT'S TIME FOR DAVINCI TO GET A RAP DOWNGRADE

The Shadow Over Innsmouth should be filmmable.

>THE HORROR OF UNKNOWN GEOMETRIES
>THE FACE AFTER ACID WAS THROWN ON

That's the thing, the book doesn't sound like a power fantasy at all, just a story inspired by the Dreamlands written by a woman. The author doesn't address feminism, really.

>“The only times that Lovecraft ever uses women, they tend to be very negative, very stereotypical,” she says. “They’re evil old grannies or the scared farmer’s wife, but even those are so minor. It’s as though he existed in a world without women at all.” That realization inspired her new book, The Dream Quest of Vellitt Boe, which tells a Dreamlands story through the eyes of a capable older woman. Given that Johnson was rock climbing into her fifties, she knows firsthand how formidable such a character can be. “None of the people who write about grandmothers making cookies ever imagine that someone who’s grandmother-age could do something like that,” she says. “That’s not to say that all grandmothers can, but there are grandmothers who can, and it would be nice to see those people represented.”

This is just Wired being assholes.

I feel you.
Bit by bit. Every stupid, smug and talentless hack who writes about this stuff. Those really annoying "nerds"
from school never grew up, they now vote for socialism (welfare) and contribute nothing but the destruction of western values with every single thought they have, while you try to work hard,
Improving, creating but still being left to wonder what the fuck happened to everyone

Well the fact that this exists does elicit some degree of nausea and existential fear

>The only times that Lovecraft ever uses women, they tend to be very negative, very stereotypical
>They’re evil old grannies or the scared farmer’s wife
>Who is Aesenath Waite

Do liberals only research regurgitated pop culture memes instea dof reading source material?

>feminist upgrade
>dream quest

>having the same kind of feelings of existential nausea and fear

Even their words are playing at the idea of it not being hopeless.

How would you describe Lovecraft?

>ancient and unrecognizable artifacts
>mysterious populations that give wayward looks to the protagonists and make strange motions with their extremities
>protagonist finds himself in a situation where he is terrified to an extent we can't imagine
>creatures with scales/slime/amphibious features

To be fair, Asenath Waite was literally miss not-appearing-in-this-story. There was only Ephraim. So, yeah, not sure I'd say that was a female character.

>describes Lovecraft via creatures

Derleth pls go

Lovecraft's central concept was cosmic insignificance, human limitation and ignorance and materialist horror. There's no God or Devil, no ghosts or spookily dookilys, but there are things that inhabit this very very old planet in this very very old universe in which we are a blip, which dwell, and will continue to dwell, outside of our very narrow-minded existence.

The monsters and books and shit are tools to get across an idea. It's not about what Cthulhu IS, it's about what Cthulhu MEANS for you, me and the rest of humanity, what its mere existence implies for life on Earth.

Asenath Waite was made out to be the villain of the story when the shock was she was as much a victim as Derby was. She's entirely sympathetic in a much more emotional story than Lovecraft usually wrote.

But people like this feminist writer have only read The Call of Cthulhu.

good response, you are 100% right and described it better but I was just pointing out what I've noticed from the 10 or so short stories I've read

the rape of our dimension by things worse than satan through unimaginable angles (akin to 2d people being taken by 3d hands from outside and can only see 5 circles from each 3d finger) and finding out it was always there and always will be and we're insignficant

>girl power

although i guess it could be made into Allah

i guess that just means that the lead has a cunt. why is there a cat with her, wouldn't it run away from the sea monsters.

B...but the point is that they're not capable, or they're capable in human terms and that's irrelevant in the face of the infinite.

I don't give a fuck if women, gay people, or whoever write more Lovecraftian stuff. They can write what they want. But they can at least have the decency to understand and respect the source material, even if they don't respect the author.

>they'll remember us, damn it. Better than they'll remember him.
Eighty years after his death, people are still talking about Lovecraft, and you're busy writing Lovecraft fanfiction. Eighty years from now, people will still be talking about Lovecraft, and nobody will be talking about you.

>some legacies deserve to be shat on, we toppled your little trash god from his pedestal
Kek, you're not gonna topple him from his pedestal by writing fanfiction.
Do you think you are the first people to write queer and PoC stories based on Lovecraft? People have done that before, right? And still, even YOU are not talking about them: eighty years later, you're still talking about Lovecraft, while the shitty fanfiction you're pushing is dead on arrival.
Don't kid yourself: you're not shitting on anyone's legacy, you're just shit.

Cats are badasses in Lovecraft. Read The Cats of Ulthar and that moon battle section of Dream-Quest.

kek

>It's a "lets make it about women and turn no profit" episode.

So when are we going to get male switched movies? Frankly I find all these all women remakes quite sexist. Mean Girls all male remake when?

>A lifesize, anamatronic Vitruvian Man spouting Kayne West rap lyrics and gangsta dance moves

Yeah they'll fuck it up. These people really need to focus on the story then worry about their political agenda. Ghostbusters is proof enough

Lovecraft loved cats and they pretty much survive anything in any of his stories.

>Vitruvian Man does black snow angels

>Mean Girls all male remake when?

Will they be catty gays or bants lads?

...

>hate Islam and everything it stands for

>buy into the "THEY HAET OUR FREDEOMSS" bullshit

>realize that maybe people getting mad as fuck about you overthrowing their governments to install dictators for geopolitical and economic gain and bombing civilians isn't so unreasonable

>realize that the West is weak and living in a deluded fantasy of Utopian equalism where inherent biological differences don't exist except when it's convenient for the narrative at the moment

>realize that the West's weakness will and refusal to acknowledge hard truths about culture and genetics will cause this Utopian fantasy to collapse under its own weight and allow the harder, stronger Islamic peoples to take over

>mosque in my town
>strongly considering joining

I see the shape of things to come. The future is Islam.

Excelent taste user... But not Lovecraft

She was literally a transwoman fishkin. Pretty progressive if you ask me.

>with some karate chops thrown in

>sex and the city with schoolgirls sucking teachers and taking up the butt every episode and one sweet kind virgin who becomes every audience member's waifu

tbqh many characters in lovecraftian stories survive their encounters with the beings of the cosmos.

As long as the granny rockclimber ends up as a lunatic or learns at the end that her experience is completely meaningless against the gods of the universe I'd say it's pretty close to the source material.

Dream Quest fucking sucks

four teachers banging schoolgirls and discussing on school cafeteria table

one writes a blog about what makes each flavor of teen poon special

>Feminist upgrade.
They should worry about trying to make a good movie out of this than worrying about making some random female the protagonist.

A feminist upgrade would be women without bras.

Or maybe she'll realise that the old gods need to check their privilege and that men are the true evil.

This isn't even about a movie, it's some shitty fan-fiction novel. Fuck you OP

tentacle rape + a healthy disdain for niggers

soooooo

basically an Anime?

>tfw they rename niggerman to pocgenderfluidpanfeline

Bet they won't even name that cat Nigger Man.

>people involved clearly hate lovecraft
Lel

I love practical effects.

This is also a remake created by a guy who hated the original.

Unfortunately for him it turns out that cinematic history isn't the only thing he raped

The problem is he influenced so much of pop culture that they have to acknowledge him, but at the same time their agenda refuses to let them enjoy things outside of their personal beliefs. So Lovecraft has to be feminist now.

>feminist
>lovecraft
i've read almost all his work, and i can barely remember anyone female or anything related to women in them.

>feminist upgrade
Just like Ghostbusters, huh?

Any horror that's better than Lovecraft?

Pretty much anything, the only decent horror he did was The Whisperer in Darkness.

>literal whos saying people with actual names are not relevant because they say so

>feminist "upgrade"

Feminism hasn't upgraded anything in its existence. A better term would be "cancerification."

Also Lovecraft was abused by his insane syphilitic mother. It's why he was so introverted.

Why are women awful in every respect?

kek Jewish Hitler when

hardcore racism?

Alright full disclosure I've never read any Lovecraft but
>pure unending existential dread
>the sense that in the grand scheme of things you don't matter in the slightest
>black humor

The creators of Welcome To Night Vale actually don't like Lovecraft and yet this fits that to a fucking T.

youtu.be/sqGYhOZONn8

Meh. Bullshit fanfiction to appease sjws that nobody gives a shit about. Meanwhile Lovecraft's work will still continue to stand the test of time.

>woman rock climber
>doing anything significant whatsoever to cull the hordes of madness unleashed by a single glimpse behind the mirage of our mundane existence and into the swirling, abominable nether of chaos that consumes the universe in horrific wisdom

Don't give this crap any attention, retards.

Just ignore it an it will eventually bomb. You retards create the things you hate.

>lovecraft
>black humor
well...

Okay see these posts were made four months ago, and this is the first and only times I've heard of these novellas.

You think they might be a bit haughty in thinking anyone mainstream knows who they are?

Thank god based Christopher wont let anyone touch Lord of the Rings again

What happens when he kicks it and things are out of his hands?

kek

they are literally Satan's bitch if men dont put them in their place

a completetly broken being who'd cheer for muslim invaders to kill gays and parasite on leftist metrosexuals' taxes

Fucking kek'd

Lovecraft was basically a cat lady, cats in Unknown Kadath and Ulthar are the ultimate badasses that totally save the MC ass all the time they're there.

One of Lovecraft's characters has a black cat named Nigger Man.

Lovecraft isn't really good horror by our standards today but his themes and the universe he created are timeless. His prose sort of ruins any feelings of dread you might have. Check out Karl Edward Wagner (Sticks in particular) or Ramsey Campbell (The Voice of the Beach) for some better written Lovecraftian tales.

Lovecraft on cat-people/cats:

“…lover of cats…demand…a clearer adjustment to the universe than ordinary household platitudes provide…He is unwilling to set up himself and his cruder feelings as a measure of universal values, or to allow shallow ethical notions to warp his judgment….cats appeal to the sensitive poet-aristocrat-philosopher…when we reflect on the matter of biological association…Cats are the runes of beauty, invincibility, wonder, pride, freedom, coldness, self-sufficiency, and dainty individuality–the qualities of sensitive, enlightened, mentally developed, pagan, cynical, poetic, philosophic, dispassion-ate, reserved, independent, Nietzschean, unbroken, civilised, master-class men…”

“Watch a cat…in the…chase, and compare his…quiet study of his terrain with the noisy floundering…of his canine rival. [Cats seldom] return empty-handed. He knows what he wants, and…get it in the most effective way, even at the sacrifice of time — which he philosophically recognises as unimportant in the aimless cosmos. There is no turning…aside or distracting his attention…among humans, this is the quality of mental tenacity…the ability to carry a single thread through complex distractions…a…sign of intellectual vigour and maturity. Children…peasants, and dogs ramble, cats and philosophers stick to their point…”

More:

“The superior imaginative inner life of the cat, resulting in superior self-possession, is well known. A dog …depend[s] wholly on companionship, and [is] utterly lost except in packs or by the side of his master. Leave him alone and he does not know what to do except bark and howl and trot about till sheer exhaustion forces him to sleep. A cat…is never without…contentment. Like a superior man, he knows how to be alone and happy. Once he looks about and finds no one to amuse him, he settles down to the task of amusing himself; and no one really knows cats without having…peeked…at some lively and well-balanced kitten which believes itself…alone”

“I have no active dislike for dogs, any more than I have for monkeys, human beings, tradesmen, cows, sheep, or pterodactyls; but for the cat I have entertained a particular respect and affection ever since the earliest days of my infancy”

Was he right Sup Forums?

Does anyone else likes The White Ship?

He wrote a treatise about how dogs and the people who like them are the scum of the earth.

Bants lads.

>were taking everything that's yours and making it ours

This is the attitude that causes the most hate towards your stupid causes. Nobody cares if you make new stories or even remake old stories (aside from showing a lack of creativity and unoriginality) with women or gays or poc or anything else.
It's the in your face were the best and you suck attitude that causes backlash.

Good. Then it can be about an American guy trying to fit in at a British school.

“The dog would…be the favorite of superficial, sentimental, and emotional people — people who feel rather than think, who attach importance to mankind and…popular conventional emotions of the simple, and…find their greatest consolation in the fawning and dependent attachments of a gregarious society. Such people live in a limited world of imagination; accepting uncritically the values of common folklore, and…preferring to have their naive beliefs, feelings, and prejudices tickled…”

“…Persons of commonplace ideas — unimaginative worthy burghers who are satisfied with the daily round of things and who subscribe to the popular credo of sentimental values — will always be dog-lovers…Dogs are the hieroglyphs of blind emotion, inferiority, servile attachment, and gregariousness — the attributes of commonplace, stupidly passionate, and intellectually and imaginatively underdeveloped men…”

If you remake something, or write sequels to something, or do anything to an IP or franchise that wasn't originally yours, it needs to come from a place of appreciation for the original source.

People can tell when you're just doing something for the sake of money, like the countless soulless movie reboots out there.

In this case though, and in some other cases, like the Ghostbusters remake (look at some of the emails Amy Pascal was involved with), it's coming from a post-modernist place of, "we don't give a shit about this thing. We just know it's popular, so we're going to subvert it, and laugh in your face."

It's very spiteful and angry.

>unimaginative worthy burghers

what the fuck was his problem

Confirmed for Islamatroll, or poor little cuck.

Sounds like someone who had a neighbor whose dog barked too much.

I don't understand this. Plenty of authors make lovecraft based stories without trying to force it as some over throwing.
