Have a degree, can't find a fucking job...

Have a degree, can't find a fucking job. Thinking about joining the Coast Guard and trying to get stationed in like Alaska or somewhere far away and interesting. Good idea or bad one?

Only down side is I have done LSD, Shrooms, Weed, and molly and I don't want to lie about that on the forms because some day I might want to work a job with top secret Security Clearence. I dunno, some of you assholes must have been in the military

They test in MEPS before hand when about to sign on then they test again your 3rd day of boot.

Seen people get fucked by that 3rd day test as the results don't come back until week 6 of 8. Clean your system and don't smoke for a good 2-3 weeks before either and your set. Just be honest with your recruiter and say you need 3 weeks to get clean. They won't risk sending you in just to get dropped. They will give you the time to get clean. All units ship out every 2 weeks. so they will just put you in a different boot unit to get clean.

>Have a degree, can't find a fucking job
So what shitty liberal arts degree do you have?

What kinda degree? I think its an idea with some credence but you need to take a long ass tolerance break before you get in.

Why would the drugs you did have any impact?

this isnt a bad plan if you can be sure you are clean the day you go to MEPS, but be aware that the CG is as discriminative as the Air Force so you may not be eligible. dont tell them anything that isnt public record. dont tell them if youve taken ritalin. and the most important thing, is be flexible. they will put you where they need you. it might be alaska, but it might be the great lakes. its a good career but they make the decisions, not you.

International Security Studies lol

will be taking a long ass tolerance break. On week 1 currently of break.

For top security in the future I have heard that using with the frequency that I have in the past (though not currently doing) could disqualify me

I will definitely wait at least a couple more weeks before meeting with recruiter and starting MEPS yeah

forgot to say: i am Military with TS//SCI clearance. dont worry about drugs if you havent been charged with drug crimes. even the polygraph doesnt ask that question for background check.

>try to get stationed in like Alaska or somewhere far away and interesting
Bro, the coast guard will assign you wherever the hell they want you. You will not get what you want, most likely.

>International Security Studies lol
I do hope you don't have to pay tuition fees where you are

Also, you better lie about the drugs or you aren't getting in.
Recruiter will say something along the lines of
"have you done so and so?"
"Yes"
"YOU mean NO??"
"I mean yes"
"You mean you HAVEN'T done drugs"
then they will drug test you before you go to MEPS

OK.
#1. LIE. LIE ABOUT DRUG USE. YOU ARE PURE AS THE FUCKING VIRGIN SNOW. Admitting illegal drug use=auto-disqualification from govt service and anything like a LEO position and especially ANYTHING with a SC.
#2. LIE YOU STUPID SHIT
#3. Be clean for at least a month before testing.

That's very good to hear. Wouldn't I be in a bad situation if I didn't disclose, say, LSD use 4 years ago and then I was later polygraphed asking if I had ever intentionally left out information on an SF-86 in the past? I realize that's a very specific scenario but it worries me.

I'm a 35F in army, they don't polygraph you in the military. They ask you a bunch of questions about where you've been, what you've done, etc, then review your family and references.

I mean as long as you've never gotten in trouble for any of that and its out of your system by the time you get tested there wouldn't really be any way for them to know

>I was later polygraphed asking if I had ever intentionally left out information on an SF-86

maybe you hit a car in a parking lot and drove off
maybe you drank underage
maybe you've used a fake ID to get into a club..
Poly is only a baseline.

Have you considered getting into a trade? the guys at my work make $60 an hour welding on gas mains

I understand this as a short term strategy, but I am thinking of going Intelligence Specialist to put myself in a better position for being hired after I get out. Currently living in DC where I got my degree from and would like to return here and work in intelligence. The TS Clearance later on is what I am worried about. I am okay muddying the waters for the future and I can deal with it then, but I don't wanna shoot myself in the foot either

the polygraph for military is only questions relating to your intentions in seeking a clearance, and past experience handling government property or information. so: are you anti US Govt? Are you seeking informati9n to give to foreign powers? have you mishandled or stolen govt property or information in the past? if the answer to those or a variation of that is no, youll pass a polygraph.

mr 35F: 35S 35N and the new cyber MOS get polygraphs.

Good to know, thank you

>intel gets polygraphs
No we don't, nobody in my brigade that I know of has ever gotten a polygraph. Why do think this? Has never happened to anyone I know in the 5 years of military service. Every 2 years a contractor meets up, asks the same shit they did before, then reviews my parents and references again, then my TS/SCI clearance is renewed.

government civilians however, get the full scope polygraph. not as bad as rumored, but if they hit on something, they can go off script and ask about drug use, sex habits, marital issues, and any number of things you dont want to talk about hooked up to a machine. not for military tho

Lots of people lie. I know a lot. Get over it and lie.

dude, if you want access to NSA resources, you need a CI poly. 35S (comint analysis)35N (sigint) and 35P (linguist) need polys to work the mission, funded by NSA/CYBERCOM

the point is that its not always required, but mil in all branches with TS/SCI can be assigned a job needing a poly.

>For top security in the future I have heard that using with the frequency that I have in the past (though not currently doing) could disqualify me
The issue isn't that you used it frequently, the issue is that if you go for that kind of clearance they'll start talking to family and friends and one of your friends will say "Yeah he's a good guy. He hasn't done drugs for a long time."

Opps... you lied on your application so no clearance and maybe you get booted out.

if you cant lie on a form you cant lie as a job

this is dumb, and not true. OPM is so backed up they dont care about you lying about smoking weed 5yrs ago. they want to uncover felonies, and foreign allegiances

OP if serious get clean stay clean, go in. Don't lie, they don't give a fuck about anything except major shit, just want to know you're honest/reliable/loyal regarding a clearance. As for CG, right now you probably can't get in unless you do OCS or guarantee A school as a cook or whatever rating they need more of right now.

It's the best service.

Intelligence services want someone who can't be blackmailed. If you lie on an application and get away with it, you can be blackmailed later.

I can guarantee you that smoking weed would be less of an offence than lying about it.

This is wrong. They don't give a fuck. Did LE, had TS/SCI, told them I smoked weed everytime I was asked from MEPS to the time I got out. Just be consistent either way, so lying is cool and all but fuck trying to keep that going, they catch that shit 10 years down the road after you commit to a career, you're fucked.

protip

lie, they cannot prove it.. polygraph is not present, and they arent going to tap your spine retard. Only thing you have to worry about is the THC in your body. If you want a security clearance, then get your CREDIT cleaned up..

You dont know anything John Snow.

Maybe thats why you dont have a job?

>I have done LSD, Shrooms, Weed, and molly
>I might want to work a job with top secret Security Clearence
I'm an Army CID agent; you're not getting a TS clearance. On top of that, you're not going to get into the Coast Guard.

The CG, all jokes aside, is the most selective out of all branches.

As far as security clearances go, your drug history is going to blacklist you from any sort of clearance aside from Secret. People who demonstrate poor decision making skills generally aren't granted access to knowledge that directly impacts national security or the lives and safety of US personnel.

Listen to this person.

I do security clearances. Not going to jerk off your internet police insecurities to try to prove it, but I can vouch for this.

We look very, very deeply into financial history. Way more than we did even 10 years ago.

We also don't give as much shits about the stuff most people are worried about.

But violence and/or financial fraud (even if very minor)? Yep, be very concerned about those.

I can remember when I was a kid in my early teens and older brother of one of my friends was doing something that needed a security clearance. They had an investigator come to our neighborhood and talk to most of the parents that were around. He also cornered some of us kids and soft-talked us. "You know Mike, right? Seems like a good guy. he mentioned you guys used to do drugs together. It was pretty swell, right?"

So your saying you do security clearances for a meps station? Because if you don't, then were not talking about the same thing entirely. I did forget to inform the gentleman that if he has background record, then of course that would be a game over.

>Update

How do they assess poor decision making skills if those decisions were made at 18 years old? How does anyone get into any military service...?

Also I feel like going on Sup Forums is at least as stupid and poisonous as smoking weed, I wish they would have rejected YOU from army CID lol

I have good credit at least. Score as of June 28th was 710

>if those decisions were made at 18
There are 18 year olds in service who are accountable for ~$1M worth of gear, and or the lives of other people.

At 18, you're an adult. The military is not some institution that exists solely for your benefit/betterment.

>How does anyone get into any military service...?
Because most people don't experiment with hard drugs/psychedelics. Weed isn't a big deal, and youthful experimentation is allowed.

>I wish they would have rejected YOU from army CID lol
Good thing nobody gives a fuck about your wishes. Which is why you're an unemployed jackass, and I am not.

Welcome to real life.

You sure have educated me about the harsh realities of life. Thank u mr. army man.

I think everything except weed clears out of your blood pretty quickly.

You're welcome

Listen to me, Listen to everyone. Just fucking lie and stay clean for the rest of your life. your medical records are private and when screening for TS clearances they dont look at you before 18.

IM FUCKING TELLING YOU NIGGER
YOU ARE GI FUCKING JOE JUST LIELIELIELIELIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE.

The only person you should ever be honest with is your recruiter if he's really there to help you out. otherwise lie on everything.

Yeah I think I will be up front about the weed, tbh its been a handful of times in the last year and before that, not too excessive. And I gueess I will say fuck the TS clearence. There are many other ratings that appeal to me that don't involve it. I will just tell them the situation and try to show I am suitable candidate in spite of that stuff.

They dont look into anything before 18 years of age.

lol im litterally stationed on that ship. 717 the Mellon.

its pretty cool i did lots of drugs when i was in high school to just dont tell them.

that's good. The only harder drugs I have tried have been before 18.

Can you fucking stop there's litterally no reason. if you've never sold it and got caught selling it there is litterally nothing they can do or even care enough about to find out. just let your recruiter know and he will 95% just omit it as long as you stay clean.

nice man! Can I ask your rating, or are you non-rate currently?

i like the coast guard you get all the benifits of being in the military with out going to the middle east unless you put in for it.

we are the smallest branch of the military but we have the highest retention rate so we must be doing something right.

On the other hand if your this paranoid maybe intelligence isnt for you

okay okay okay

Go puddle pirates.

im in the engineering department i work a lot with all the MK, EM, DC's

Wrong, most likely you WILL get alaska and other billets that the majority does not want. UP Michigan, minnesota, generally cold places are not the top of members pick lists. Cali and Florida are harder to get than Alaska.

since you have a degree i would try to go the officer rout get better pay. but if you want to get more specialized training and get that top secret security clearance i would go IS they get really good paying jobs outside of the CG.

I like the idea of Kodiak and Juneau. I have read all about how life is on those stations I don't think I am romanticizing it, I just like the nature and relative solitude. I also would very much like to be in Seattle.

any idea how long A-school wait is right now for IS?

Tell the truth about your drug use is you can truthfully attest to no arrests, no social or school failure related to drug use, and a sustained period of being off of drugs. That way you can pass a polygraph down the road.
I have a TS/SCI

yeah unfortunately that's one of the longer wait lists probably year and a half to two years. but its worth the wait if you really want that job. otherwise the officer rout would probably get you top secret clearance depending where they send you.

OC

...

pretty cool shot. It would be cool to be MET, I assume they are the only ones who get to handle the big guns
