Is Kendrick the voice of this new generation?
The New Cobain
um yeah kinda
Considering he has way less talent than people think he does, yes, he's the kurt cobain of this generation.
Ehh I'd say nah. I'd say while he's influential to all races, his music is so centralized in being black, nd black culture that it makes it impossible for a teen who's white like myself to really feel he's speaking to any broad voice of this generation. But maybe that's the problem right now is that there are so many different voices for so many different types of people who are able to get some following that there will never be a figure like Cobain again.
Pop music will evolve, but a new voice never has to emerge to shake things up, because if someone is sick of hearing pop music they can easily find something they would consider "underground"
No, Kanye is. Some of us hate Kanye, but we all want to be Kanye. He perfectly embodies the excessive, narcissistic culture of the 2010s. I still love him btw, that's just how I see him.
"Generations" are a meme
It's not like Cobain was speaking for black people either
THIS

Your life is a meme.
That's true but he wasn't speaking directly about being white. He was speaking to the attitude and feelings of the time. So although he was probably really reaching mostly white people I wouldn't say it was exclusive to white people. While Kendrick raps very openly about being black, the hardships that has come with that, racial discrimination, and a lot of times appropriation. Hell there's not one song of his I could sing out aloud in public because of the word Nigga.
