This thread is dedicated to the people, history, and culture of the Middle East and North Africa region, usually defined as the area from Morocco to Iran, encompassing the area that share a linguistic and religious unity but with incredibly diverse local and regional differences.
Post food, about Islam, Arabic language, questions and anything else. Summoning the regular Syrian, Iranian and other MENA nations.
some background about me is that I am an inspiring arabic major and a """""scholar""""" on middle east politics and history, taking some classes on muslim history and two classes deep in arabic.
this summer at the end of the semester, I am heading to Marrakesh for a study abroad trip lasting one month.
generally enjoy talking middle east with people who sorta know what they are talking about, want a qt 3.14 assadist Sourian gf or Iranian babe (pic related). Don't know enough (like many) to have a discussion on Islam.

Here's a rare citadel pic in Souria

roman theater in Bosra, المسرح الروماني ببصرى.
" Ancient Roman theatre in Bosra, in the district of Dar'a in south-western Syria.[1]:143 It was built in either the second quarter[2]:53 or the second half of the second century AD,[1]:143 and is constructed of black basalt. It was built outside the walls of the town, but was later completely enclosed by an Ayyūbid fortress.[1]:141
The theatre is 102 metres across and has seating for about 15,000 people; it is thus among the largest of the Ancient Roman civilisation. It is also one of the best preserved. It was substantially restored between 1947 and 1970, before which it contained large quantities of sand, which may have helped to protect the interior.[1]:14"

honestly I don't know anywhere else on the net where I can talk to syrians and iranians, the purpose of the post was to summon those folks. there is literally no where else I can talk to middle east autists besides here and /sg/.. it's sorta awesome in that way.

without being put on a list. I'm in an egpytian shitposting group but other than that I'm not comfortable with putting all my assad sympathies on there if I'm trying to get a job with defense industry.

what do they put on syrian shawarma? I used to work on an egyptian food truck and we had beef or chicken, along with spinach, tomato and onion; this was coupled with fresh bread from soumaya bakery. soumayasonsbakery.com/

hey magrebi what should i do to get hashish in morocco as a foreigner? also, any travel tips or what I should see?
also, history: "In December 1777, Moroccan sultan Muhammad III included the United States of America in a list of countries to which Morocco’s ports were open. Morocco thus became the first country whose head of state publicly recognized the new United States.[1] Relations were formalized with the Moroccan–American Treaty of Friendship negotiated by Thomas Barclay, and signed by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Muhammad III in 1786.[2][3]"

>can write about fucking almohads >writes about some irrelevant recognition just because it includes us orientalism 101

Why do they fill their lips with collagen like this, hate girls with big lips here
Josiah Edwards
>Whats your opinion on the walking dead? i could go on for days about the walking dead. but for short it's like this: the good parts are good. but the bad parts are REALLY fucking bad. too much meaningless stuffing. the production value goes down as the seasons progress, even though the show grows more successful. i can recommend the first season easy. but the later seasons are much harder to.
shows for beginners i would recommend: obviously Breaking Bad, Sopranos, The Wire. Westworld. can't go wrong with any of these. first 2 seasons of Community. The Americans: probably the best thing on television right now. no joke. first season of Homeland The Knick i assume you know about game of thrones. that is a different discussion all together.
things to avoid: 99% of the shows produced or made for netflix. specifically the Marvel capeshit. (jessica jones daredevil etc.) the exception is Narcos. Narcos has fantastic moments are wonderful acting. Mr Robot no matter how much people tell you to watch Mr Robot, refuse. it's shit. inexcusable shit. sherlock. it has nice acting. the cinematography is unique. story is meh at best >spinach, tomato and onion i threw up a little.
Ayden Powell
Almohads were pretty shit
The only based thing they did was clean up the religious mess the maghreb was into nice sunni green
Isaac Davis
>That pic Westerners are so fucking gullible holy shit slap a cute girl on anything and you win
Nicholas Scott
>post says MENAboo
I read all the Ed Said shit just lemme indulge in your history m8, it's really interesting and westerners usually don't go beyond saying "fuck ISIS and Islam"
drop redpills on almohads and also personally I think it's sorta dope america's first allyship or recognition came from Morocco, they also arrested Confederates during the civil war. and what does your name mean, al-sarbe? I can read characters but don't know what they mean
al-sudani are there babes in sudan or is it just famine? love to learn more about it but we don't see much but headlines about massacres occasionally

don't you know arabs and ottomans were very similar till now we have partially the same traditions and culture and islam is why ottoman empire occupied all arab territory freely back then. please shut it up you ignorant.
Zachary Reyes
>what do they put on syrian shawarma? syrian shawarma is just chicken, pickles, garlic-mayo cream. optional pomegranate sauce and hot sauce. that's it. beef shawarma has onions and parsley and some sauce. don't have it usually.
Kayden Murphy
let me have my orientalist fantasy, magrebi. otherwise it's swallowing the assad-must-go pill

I fucking hate Moroccans, Algerians and Tunisians. I consider them to be subhumans of the lowest order, even below some species of animal. I would rather spend time with a dog than with a Maghrebi subhuman, because a dog has virtuous qualities whereas a Maghrebi is an all-around subhuman.
David Fisher
it's al-Sirbii, "the serb"
Jayden Hall
the pomegranate sauce sound delicous, I love pomergrante juice and eating the little gems when I have a full one. so tasty. is the shawarma still served on the roller like this one?
Colton Peterson
>because a dog has virtuous qualities So a dog let you fuck it and a qt Maghrebi didn't?
Dominic Jackson
Same
Camden Reyes
>is the shawarma still served on the roller like this one? it is literally the only way. we wouldn't call it shawarma otherwise.

love to see it. what other dishes could be considered syrian? what was your favorite growing up?
pic related, the place I used to cook for.
David Watson
>كس أمك more arabic curse words you kalb
Brody Hernandez
maghrebis are still vastly superior so fuck off =] really ? here it's served on flatbread and looks like a gyro.
Joseph Powell
most of what syrians cook is a variation of a turkish dish. like dolma or rice-stuffed zucchini, kibbeh. i couldn't tell you a wholly syrian dish. maybe some of the hummus or foold dishes. or the ones involving sheep entrails, hooves and head/tongue. that wasn't me
Ayden Lee
أيري فيك my dick in you أيري بطيزك My dick in your ass تلحس أيري Lick my dick

if it has has pistachios that's how you know it's syrian.
Aaron Phillips
>pistachios just the sweets. we don't cook with it.
Eli Wood
in amreeki it is served as a gyro and always sold as it too unless you go to an arab place. excited to try street food and the fresh fish in morocco. anything I should watch out for? very curious, gonna be there from may 15 to june 15. I was told it's gonna be very hot.
I've had kibbeh before and some more lebanese-ish dishes at our local plebanese place. sounds delish though, post pics if you can. and still, more curse words or funny shit I can say to my freinds
Kevin Anderson
have some maghrebi curses : سير تحوى/تقود go fuck yourself ينعل طبون مك curse your mum's cunt تقود عليا fuck off
Nolan Ramirez
Shakiriyah you fucking dummy. Also that stuff called sha5tooraa
Ryder Perry
Yes of course Arabs were treated as equals in the Empire which is why at around the late 1800s and earl 1900s Arab populations mostly consisted of rural peasants and nomads whereas Anatolia and Constantinople were quite better off.
Ryan Green
this really isn't me i don't like tongue too much. it's really chewy. my grandma makes it into fatteh (pic). but really you can make anything into fatteh (chicken, chickpeas, lamb) >sha5tooraa indeed. not into it. >Shakiriyah probably turkish too
Alexander Miller
nice dubs; I love me some baklava and spinach pies.
how do you pronounce dick out loud? vowels on top of alif always fuck me up, would it be Ueeree? reeeeeeeeeeee help me
Xavier Roberts
NO. It's a 100% pure syrian dish. Also man2oshe is syrian/leb. Also I love Syrian bread > Egypshaan bread > Libnani bread >Ueeree It's like Airy. But not sure desu. Just vocaroo it.
Jaxon Carter
In terms of Arab countries there isn't specific cuisine limited to one country it's generally across the board just with minor different variations of spices and ingredients .
Brandon Long
there's nothing better than hot piece of bread with some zatar and olive oil

no مصري you have to stay. whats sha5toora?
thank you based maghrebi. also, do you have any opinion on the amazeigh/berber name? I always tell people amazeigh then I explain how berber isn't right, it's sorta PC but my professor for mideast history is a left-leaning turk.
related to that pic, I love the use of pistacios/almonds and other nuts in cooking. adds wonderful texture and taste. what did you eat today?
Adrian Barnes
Have you seen Don't breathe?
Also since you're Sup Forumsfag what's your opinion on Prison Break? Only S1-2 the rest is heresy of course
Mason Ward
It's literally Air (أير). When I was a kid I would laugh every time I heard the English teacher say it. So أيري is Airee
Jordan Watson
is pistachio ice cream good ? it's gonna be very hot and dry if you go to somewhere like marrakesh but there's also cool places like ifran i would recommend you go to agadir, the food here is mostly middle eastern/mideterranean plus a few original dishes, definetly try out moroccan tajine, kouskous, chebakiya, ghribiya, feqqas, makroud, and most importantly pastilla both the fish and chicken variants.
Justin Mitchell
Mmmm, true :d And with some akawi cheese too

Jose Green
>what did you eat today? grandma sent me some green fool cooked in olive oil. had it with laban and lemon squeeze. >Have you seen Don't breathe? yeah it was real fun. 10/10 >Prison Break? i haven't seen it since it first aired. i remember thinking it was the best. the second season was just stupid. they literally put themselves into a different prison so they can break out or something. the show is cheesy. characters are one dimensional and story is mostly trash. watch the first season and abandon it. >is pistachio ice cream good ? yes it is. i prefer the damascus milk only icecream with whole pistachios in it though. that cheese is pornographic when warm.
Matthew Cox
no its the same as kossomak
Joshua Perry
bro is the pigeon pastilla worth it? that's what I am most excited to try, but i'll look at the other dishes too. We will be based in marrakesh which will be cool, heading around to see ruins, but my arabic teacher is so fucking laid back and relaxed he hasn't told us anything. it helps he is a magrebi though so I am pumped. don't really know the langauge too well but i heard just say inshallah all the time and i'll be able to get around kek
topkek thank you, that's hilarous

Xavier Gutierrez

because one word in one culture and language doesnt necessarily mean the same in another culture.. Why is America named after Amerigo Vespucci, but you wont find any Americans naming their children this... but im sure its a fine name to many Italians... same difference.. right? You dumb irrelevant piece of shit. But I will forgive you because in fact, just yesterday i was thinking about it in my thoughts so I will answer
and Turki is kind of a high-end name, if i am not mistaken it is common among Royal family.
Turki was the first son for King Abdulaziz but didnt live long, born in 1901 and died in 1919 before the foundation of saudi.
it means "handsome".. its just a name like Joe or Bob is in the west.. nothing more to think about.. funny though.. I guess its not as common here in the eastern province.. I dont think I know anyone currently in my group of friends or relatives named Turki now that I think about it... The only guy I know was a friend of my husbands when we were in univeristy in USA and he was from Jeddah (not the eastern province)

drinking is pretty underwhelming, but i'm convinced tangier hash is best, they might try to scam you with the prices but it's actually very cheap.
