So the contenders for best movie of this year seem to be Les "Innocentes" and "Hell or High Water". Am I missing any?

I feel like Baskin is going to be another Bone Tomahawk where people rave over its gore because they haven't seen anything better. Meh.

Bump

No letterboxd for me but here's what I watched last month

What on earth are you using?

excel, the open office version

That's actually really smart, I didn't even think to do that

you should use libreoffice

openoffice is deprecated

Instead of using the well organized letterboxd, you're using a shittily made spreadsheet?

thanks, I'll check it out. Openoffice has a couple quirks

works for me, handy to be able to order things by date watched, genre, rating, director etc. It could be imported to letterboxd with a csv file I think

Discuss.

>Innocentes
this played in a theater near me for a week, but i didn't have the chance to see it. really bummed about that.

The Lobster and Toni Erdmann.

THE LOBSTER was a 2015 release.

Oh, coulda sworn it was '16. Redact that, then.

It had its US wide release in 2016, but it was available on home media in Europe in late 2015, so pretty easily available. just had its US bluray release - look at how awful the slipcover is

LES DEMONS and EVENING GLOW OVER are the best i've seen, but i haven't seen a ton of films this year.

What even is the point of that. The graphic implies the portraits are meant to make up a hidden image but they done it's just a bunch of faces. Dumb, especially when the origin poster is so good.

I'm drunk and just drank a bunch of coffee and water. What should I drift off to?

>it's just a bunch of faces
it implies the shape of a butcher's knife to me, which sort of makes sense as it references the ending where David maybe cuts out his eyes, but it doesn't really make much sense even if you see it that way because he has a different sort of knife in that scene.

Sort of but even then you will have had to watch the film to get it which is horrible poster design.

it's definitely a terrible cover. the Rotten Tomatoes logo is the icing on the shit cake.

Absolutely love Carpenter but that's the one of his golden era that I've yet to see. Might check it out tomorrow afternoon now that you've reminded me.

letterboxd.com/ciaociao/

I went to the movie store today and picked up five movies for the weekend.

Rebel Without a Cause, If...., American Sniper, Seven Samurai (been playing a lot of nioh), and Come Drink With Me.

LW just give in. We miss you.

IRC for invite.

...

literally who

i made a list

letterboxd.com/gzitelli/list/one-love/

With October next month, lets make a list of 31 horror movies to watch each day.

>Anomalisa
>Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
>The Wind Rises
>Take Shelter
>Goodbye, Dragon Inn
>Mr. Turner

i'm surprised that each of these only had one vote

>31 horror movies
>each day
that's a lot of horror movies

Alternatively, we could just do 13 for the 13 days leading up to Halloween.

i dunno man 13 movies a day would still be a lot

halloween
hellraiser
friday the 13th part Vl jason lives
Jason X
trick r treat
children of the corn
evil dead 2
cabin in the woods
Re-animator
the vvitch
the shining
return of the living dead
night of the living dead
dawn of the dead (romero)
28 days later
you're next

wouldn't call eraserhead horror

I definitely fucking would. Horror isn't just zombies and vampires.

saved and to be done

eraserhead is just lynchean

Wikipedia: Eraserhead is a 1977 American surrealist body horror film written and directed by filmmaker David Lynch

Imdb lists it as Fantasy, Horror, Sci-fi

doesn't make it a horror movie

God doesn't care

It doesn't meet your definition and that's fine, but to a lot of people, probably most, it does

De Palma 2015 1080p WEB-DL DD5.1 H.264-eSc

thoughts?

>using some shitty SJW version of IMDB where you can literally change your pronouns in the settings

>11. Horror-Comedy
evil dead 2
>12. Independent horror
>13. A horror movie from 2015/6
pretty generic I guess

Sunshine & The Guest are a stretch. They're not really horror, one has a small slasher element and the other one is referencing slasher movies in a funny way.

...

I hate these lists

I get that the first few became popular and were quite funny but now there are too many and it's pointless

Not that user but The Guest is kind of a horror, in the way that it's kind of a modern retelling of an old Hitchcock thriller (Shadow of a Doubt)

I haven't seen that, I only picked up on the tongue in cheek references to Halloween. Still not really horror.

yeah it's definitely on the fence but the climax in the haunted house or whatever would at least make it worthy October viewing. I would probably substitute it for You're Nexf though

Finally, my kind of topic.

There are some here I dont want to rewatch because theyre that bad, can i just replace it with something else i havent seen?

I started using Letterboxd about a month ago and didn't rate anything because I figured my ratings would be all over the place and liking/not liking a film on my log would be enough.

But now I've realized pretty much everything I watch is good enough for me to hit like on. Do you reckon it's worth going back and rating everything, or just rating anything I watch from now?

>its a horror prep thread
