Was he autistic?

Was he autistic?

no

yes

That scene at the porn theater seemed autistic.

maybe. He certainly is hugely socially awkward and has trouble reading people or situations.

However, it's implied this social isolation is the result of his war experiences combined with the alienating atmosphere of manhattan in the 70s

Nah, he just lived in 70s NY

extremely

>with the alienating atmosphere of manhattan in the 70s
If it was so bad, why didn't he move?

He was deliberately subjecting himself to it

yes

He was a Raskolnikov carbon copy. Shrader said it.

Why?

Because he's misanthropic

Also if you see the scars on his back it can be implied that he went through a traumatic event in war that gave him ptsd

I always liked the theory that he never actually served in Vietnam. Actually adds to the character 2bh.

No, he was just sick of it all.

I had an Abnormal Psych class in college in which I was supposed to pick a movie character (from a list), diagnose him/her using criteria established by the DSM, An write a paper about it.

I concluded that Travis' s symptoms most clearly matched schizotypal personality disorder, due to his paranoia (specifically surrounding black men); social dysfunction; unconventional thoughts/beliefs (such as his obsession with cleaning up the "dirtiness" of the world; and disassociative episodes (e.g. scene at the diner). This personality construct, combined with the stresses of trying to relate to build relationships with others in the sinister urban decay of 1970s New York, led him to his violent rampage.

All meming aside, I think he fits this pattern more clearly than he does autism - at some instances, he does seem to have social intelligence (like in his exchanges with Iris), but his ability to connect meaningfully is hindered by his strange views regarding sex and dirtiness, and by his self-imposed isolation from others as a silent night-cab driver.

Rasholnikov actually kills an innocent person though?

No, he was antisocial.
>So many niggas haven't taken Introduction to Psychology. This is basic shit.

Soldiers who were hurt in combat actually have dramatically lower chances of developing PTSD.

That's just retarded.

Aspergers at least, the cafe scene drilled it in.
