when will you lonely virgins stop this faggotry?

when i die

as long as she's alive

>What do you expect from her next album?
I expect nothing less than greatness. I can't even imagine a bad Grimes album. I bet it will be like a mix of her past styles plus something completely new. It will be so good that even her haters will finally have to admit she's great.

>/Grimes/
>one of god's greatest gifts to mankind
>implying that's not true

>I'm in the zone of just throwing things at a wall. I'm trying to be unlimited by “this is sound of the album” or something. I'm trying to do the craziest shit I can, or just reach outside my comfort zone. I've been doing a song a day kind of thing. Like, get as far as I can on a song per day then start a new thing. Then once I have a various amount of things, then I'll go back and decide what to do with it.

>i just made the most insane song i'm so happy about it!!!

Claire will live forever, and so will Kae Bush, check em.

Finally a decent thread.

I demand higher res. version of this pic.

Did you know that Claire liked Portishead?

...

>just grimes being grimes

...

No

I hope she is the artist of the decade so that she'll be gone for good in 2 and a half years.

Yes, although I hadn't seen her talking about it. Did you know she likes Radiohead?

Plot twist: she will be the artist of the next decade too.

yes i knew that

Thoughts?

Claire Boucher. I love her.

I'm confused - what's the Grimes connection?

Tbh I've always sort of wondered about whether there was ever any sort of Grimes Mac Demarco contact. They're both known for having gotten their starts in Montreal's loft scene. But I've seen no mention of them ever having crossed paths.

She posted that on her old Tumblr blog. It's on Web Archive: web.archive.org/web/20131113071315/http://actuallygrimes.tumblr.com:80/page/54

What do /grimes/ think of this synthpop artist named Pixx? IMO her music is very melodic and actually good.

Btw, Pixx is signed to 4AD, the same label as Grimes.

Nice references and themes:
>A playful, performative record, The Age Of Anxiety borrows its title from a phrase found in a notebook given to Pixx (the moniker of 21 year-old musician Hannah Rodgers) by her brother, Luke. It is the title of W.H. Auden’s final long poem, charting one man’s quest to find substance and identity in a shifting and increasingly industrialised world. Published in 1947, it seems fitting that Auden’s rumination on human isolation in the modern age should be used as the title for Pixx’s debut album – ostensibly placing herself outside looking in, The Age Of The Anxiety looks instead to address a generation increasingly isolated by an unprecedented new world, from the pressures of social media to ever-changing political turbulence.

Not bad. Makes me think of a more synthpoppy version of Sunflower Bean.

I have just listened to her album
She's pretty good

Her album grew on me after 2 listens. It's one of the best pop albums of the year. It's not as gripping as the Grimes albums but it's certainly enjoyable.

me too

>Still, Pixx’s Anxiety and Auden’s share much in common. Both seem forlorn, agitated, sick with ennui. Both bristle at the anguish and malaise of the age. “Toes,” an erratic, hazy synth-pop number reminiscent of a pre-Visions Grimes, lambasts the demands of a life broadcast on-screen for likes and follows: “The longest hair/The bluest eyes/The whitest teeth/The fakest smile,” Rodgers recites flatly, before concluding with a simple droll order: “Let’s go out/Let’s go outside.” Elsewhere she addresses the tension between vanity and social consciousness—both on the rise. “Everyone is in a rush to have some fun but times are tough,” she sings on the buoyant “Waterslides.” “There must be something here for me/I’m terrified by what I see.”

Granted, it's the 'fork. But what can you do?

I just noticed that 4AD's roster is interesting to say the least:
Aldous Harding
Atlas Sound
Beirut Bing & Ruth
Camera Obscura
D.D Dumbo
Daughter
Deerhunter
EL VY
Future Islands
Gang Gang Dance
Grimes
Holly Herndon
John Moreland
Liima
LNZNDRF
Merchandise
Methyl Ethel
Pixx
Purity Ring
Scott Walker
Scott Walker + Sunn O)))
SOHN
Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly, James McAlister
The Breeders
The Lemon Twigs
The National
Tim Hecker
TORRES
Tune-Yards
U.S. Girls

Scott Walker and Tim Hecker on the same label as Grimes? Color me surprised.

4AD have had quite the pedigree over the years. Some other classics that used to call them home:

- Bauhuas
- Cocteau Twins
- Dead Can Dance
Plus a number of others I'm sure I'm forgetting at the moment.

IMO it's a wasted opportunity that she didn't push more in an IDM direction. I means more songs like Colour of Moonlight and Be a Body. Claire, if you're reading this, please give us more Autechre, BOC and Aphex Twin influenced songs.

Is it common on Sup Forums for threads to be this closely monitored by overbearing mods? I never venture into kpop threads etc so no idea if it's normal to see posts constantly deleted because one mod disagrees with them. It's pretty off putting desu, regardless of how you feel about claire.

Pixies too. This band was a big deal in the early '90s. Also This Mortal Coil and Grimes' pal, Ariel Pink.

>Is it common on Sup Forums for threads to be this closely monitored by overbearing mods?
Only in threads populated by actual music fans intent upon having actual conversations about things. Mods/janitors don't do shit unless regular posters bring stuff to their attention first.

sounds interesting desu

WELCOMETOREALITI

The famous Grimes-fans tend to report any dubious post in these threads. This is a minefield for trolls.
>no idea if it's normal to see posts constantly deleted because one mod disagrees with them
Those posts were deleted because they were offensive and non-music related (shitposting). The mods did their job.

>Ariel Pink
Well, at one time...

DELET!

He apologized for that incident. I doubt they hate each other despite that fight.

Don't forget Spaceghostpurrp

I'm assuming he's moved on (been moved on?) since his new album is on a different label I'd never heard of before.

No, you delete that.

Yeah, no. See I'm talking in a non-meme sense here.

mods were deleting any critical posts
in the previous thread to this one

there were other discussion threads already going, you can clearly see it in the start of the thread

IMO, the person posting this thread is a mod, probably on a different IP

I don't know if he left or he was kicked out. That incident was damaging to his career. Lesson: don't mess with Grimes.

delete this comment, you're distressing grimes

Did you seriously post that nazi picture (a defaced picture of hers) ITT? Are you nuts? Stop that. You will be certainly banned.

i'm expressing my interpretation of her music, which i believe is channeling white pride and white culture

she's my favourite pure artist

Why did you mess that picture, weirdo? It's 100% Photoshopped in a bad way.

Ariel pink is a genius . He's friends with all these famous alt singer chicks, some of which r hot

Your interpretation is absolutely terrible and plain illegal. That nazi crap has no place on these boards. You will be rightfully banned.

I'm no fan of Ariel Pink (everything I've heard of him indicates he is an irredeemable asshole) but the way that whole kerfuffle fell out was pretty pathetic. If you go through and look at the things actually said and by whom/when, what actually happened is that AP said something stupid about Madonna, Grimes called him out on it, and then a stupid music journalist misinterpreted what her comment was about and asked him to respond to the MISINTERPRETATION - which is how the infamous "stupid and retarded" quote originated. In the end, Ariel Pink is the one who took the fall (which isn't all that terrible giving that the whole thing started with his own indiscretion in the first place.) But if there was someone to blame for catapulting the whole thing beyond above and beyond what it deserved to be, it was that bumbling reporter in the middle.

Stop oppressing free speech because it doesn't fit into your picture of the artists message.

Grimes is a powerful artist and you need to understand that people have all sorts of interpretations of her immense and varied oeuvre.

SHES A sellout, she's never going back to that sound again. She realized how to exploit tumbler and Twitter "goths" and use them as a market.

She's no longer an artist, she's a whore.

How does that square with the fact that she's partially native American?

>she's never going back to that sound again.
Then why has she been talking about doing JUST THAT lately?

Now it makes sense. Ariel actually commented on a misinterpreted idea told to him by a dumb journalist. Never trust journalists.

What do you mean?

i don't perceive her music to have those inferences, song like eight feel very germanic to me

she's afraid of what your reaction will be because you're so close minded, expect to see the german language in her next album

Is that why grimes freaked out about music press and pitchfork?

How exactly is eight Germanic? Sounds more like post-progressive jazz jamtronica to me

Free speech exists as long you don't offend other people. That nazi shit is inexcusable, no matter how you spin the ideas. Also it's funny you say about white pride while Grimes is about tolerance and against racism. Her values are totally different than yours.

>The right to freedom of expression is recognized as a human right under article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Article 19 of the UDHR states that "everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference" and "everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice".

>The version of Article 19 in the ICCPR later amends this by stating that the exercise of these rights carries "special duties and responsibilities" and may "therefore be subject to certain restrictions" when necessary "[f]or respect of the rights or reputation of others" or "[f]or the protection of national security or of public order (order public), or of public health or morals".[5] Therefore, freedom of speech and expression may not be recognized as being absolute, and common limitations to freedom of speech relate to libel, slander, obscenity, pornography, sedition, incitement, fighting words, classified information, copyright violation, trade secrets, non-disclosure agreements, the right to privacy, the right to be forgotten, public security, and perjury

You're playing with fire.

The most idiotic thing I've seen this week. She's a sellout because she doesn't make the same album over and over again? Just curious: Bowie was a sellout too for changing his style so many times?
>she's a whore.
No. Your mother is.

Yea, Bowie certainly sold out in the 80s

He also sold in, in the 90s

One of the reasons. See pic related too.

Sorry but you're not going to decide the value and fair use of a creative remix of a photo.

The piece is transformative, which was already a remix of an original photo into a talking point about the values people perceive in her music.

Absolutely disgusting that you would bring up this bullshit because you have a shallow, narrowband interpretation of her work.

Wtf? She doesn't hate all men what a misogynist, it's 2017 ffs!

Yes. They routinely take whatever she says that sounds even vaguely like the politically correct mold of the day, stretch it to where they want, and then run with it to the high hills (see tweet #7 of pic related for in particular.)

>No. Your mother is.
No need to stoop to his level, user. This isn't kindergarten.

Yea pitchfork was going through a bad phase in 2015

"Victorian era shit"

How fucking disgusting of grimes.

"In my quest to be taken seriously"

All her music videos are fashion shows mirroring (important to note not parodying) every other stupid female artist does. Embarrassing rant just highlights how vapid her music is.

Your motives mean shit when you're doing nazi propaganda here. That's DISGUSTING. Don't even try to associate her with those horrible nazis. She would despise you for even thinking about that. Dude, I'm serious, stop posting that bullshit here and better yet, stop listening to her music you nazi fuck.

If you're actually that guy who used to make reaction images from that Vogue interview, you should know I'm terribly disappointed to hear that you're a moron. No more excuses; leave.

I will say her videos are shit, but music is still nice. And every indie artist is a trend following loser, even the one you posted

Why are you pretending to be offended by things in ways that make no sense?

Typical grimes fan, only wants cutesy bullshit photos of her, gets triggered when people have in interesting, if flawed interpretation of her 'music'

Faggot nigger cunt

WOW true fan colors coming out now...

>Typical grimes fan
Not the user you're talking about, but displaying of nazi symbols like swastikas is outright against the law (to this day) in a number of countries - Germany and Austria foremost among them. Since I'm pretty sure he's German... Touch a touchy subject, get a touch response.

I'm not a fan faggot just trying to fit in with the boys :)

fight racism with racism, right......

fuck you for even trying to excuse this bullshit you grimes apologist shill

>gets triggered when people have in interesting, if flawed interpretation of her 'music'
Your interpretation sucks. Don't post alt right bullshit on these boards, plain and simple. And putting nazi symbols on one of her pictures is not only wrong, but illegal too. You deserve to be forced to watch 24h non-stop documentaries with what nazis did in WW2, you pathetic ignorant cretin.

>grimes apologist

What? Did she kill millions of people or something?

Dude, relax. He's clearly a /pol transplant. Report the rule-violating stuff, and if he doesn't wizen up he'll get himself banned. That's how it works. No need for political diatribes. This is /mu - not /pol.

You're mad because in Germany they would kick your stupid ass if they hear that you're a nazi. They could even throw you in jail. Shame on you, scumbag.

No, this is OUR board now

(Post Pepe image that I don't have because I'm on mobile and don't save images on here)

APOLOGIZE !

seriously musical discussions only what kind of synth did she used on visions, I know she at least used a Juno G

right so were not allowed to post any sort of political inference on an artist because it might upset grimey?

This board is cancerous alt-right shit now so why are you suprised?

oh look, it's claire

Repeated appropriation of the bindi.
Appropriation of dreadlocks in “Gensis” video.

Grimes is not the first person attaching vague ethnic allusions to coolness without context—nor is she the first person to do so in four-inch “Club Kid” platform shoes. Pop music has long been a palette for white musicians interloping, borrowing, and assuming “other” racial identities, to varying critique or effect. In honor (or indictment) of Grimes and “Genesis,” here are a few of my favorites, in a manner of speaking.
