I've only recently started using letterboxd to keep track of movies I watch but it seems dumb to me to just try and add all movies I watched.
ikiru was not a good movie dissapointed once again by an indisputable classic
>QOTD: what's your favourite film with under 200 letterboxd views?+ 0 post omitted.
probably EVENING GLOW OVER. i don't really check and see how popular the movies i watch are, so there might be something else with
>Hope
>The Crazy Family
>Boat People
>Echoes From a Sombre Empire
There are about 30 EPIC FEMALE DIRECTED FLICKS lists with thousands of likes, but only just over 100 people have seen one of Ann Hui's most well-known films.
When will CINOMA come back from the war?

Only other was Yojimbo some years ago and I enjoyed it a fair bit. I'm very interested on his Samurai pieces, I don't know why I chose Ikiru instead. I found it really obvious in its intentions and almost deceivingly optimistic. The whole idea drives me off to begin with... it feels so facile to reach supposed greatness by making a movie about "the meaning of life". The conclusion isn't even remotely interesting nor unique... if it's gonna be this heavy-handed I'd take It's a Wonderful Life over this any day.
i haven't seen IKIRU myself yet, but i would advise not letting it discourage you. if you're more interested in his jidai-geki work, check out RASHOMON and SEVEN SAMURAI first. THE HIDDEN FORTRESS is pretty popular, but i found it to be dull.
I was disappointed by everything AKIRA Kurosawa made. The other Kurosawa is much better
Kinda this. Made an acc a few days ago, but I'm only logging in what I've watched afterwards.
You absolute fucking retard.
Did you make the mistake of putting your real name as the username?
Some sub-200 view recommendations from me:
Giuseppe makes a movie - documentary about an guy who makes trashy no-budget movies that are weird while living in a trailer park, but there's this sense of community and creativity that comes with it that's really nice to watch
Gang War in Milan - an escalating war between a drug gangster and a prostitute gangster, directed by Lenzi it has a great amount of energy, really fun and nasty
Road - the peak of Alan Clarkes career for me, absolute mastery of the steadicam and the film is so scathing and bursting with anger, it's fantastic
Top Sensation - Edwige Fenech and Rosalba Neri, two of the literally most attractive people of all time, on a boat and being nude
Trailer Trauma - over 2 hours of exploitation trailers scanned in 4K, a really good mix and good fun to watch
Virgins of the seven seas - 5 girls are kidnapped by the Chinese to become sex slaves and then they learn Kung fu to escape
No.
Sorry man.
a lot of garbo's films have strangely low views
also a lot of earlier sirks
Mademoiselle 1966
The Beast of the City 1932
Leila 1997
agree?
o shit De Palma is out
whiney dorks being driven out is always a plus
did hbo or amazon buy it 2 stream at some point
Wait until letterboxd starts thinking more seriously of making money. Just like it happened to mubi and jinni.

"Based" Jim Healey is destined to bring the next American new wave to Hollywood. Destroying the evil Jewish stranglehold on cinema, just as he always said he would.
I just want to say bravo Jim Healey! Bravo!
>the other Kurosawa is better
i mean, you're not wrong
Name an Akira Kurosawa movie worse than Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Seventh Code.
Even Kiyoshi's best barely eclipses Akira's worst.
Why is it so common these days to shit on Kurosawa? It's always the plebs who have seen like 3 of his films too.
>he hasnt seen color-era Kurosawa

My most recent review was of a Greek movie called 'Suntan'. Saw it at the Melbourne International Film Festival and loved it. That has less than 200 Letterboxd views.
It starts out fun and plain, but eventually turns depressing and incredibly sinister. Also pretty lewd at times, fair bit of full frontal cause Greeks, some of you may enjoy that.
Yes, I have. Did you misread my post pr are you actually implying those are worse than Seventh Code
listen bud, im gonna lay this out for you since you seem to be too autistic to read between the lines. color-era Kurosawa is not only worst Kurosawa, it's not even particularly good cinema. have you ever seen Dreams? its like discount Bunuel.
>QOTD: what's your favourite film with under 200 letterboxd views?
The Wolf Knife
>tfw based big boy healy follows you
That's how you know you're patrician
Citing the most average example of colour Kurosawa doesn't give your point any merit.
Please post a screenshot of Kurosawa's Letterboxd page, I want to know how many movies of his you've even seen.

Gonna go through Ghiblis filmography, what are the essentials?
I've seen these already
honestly, all of their films are worth watching. the only films i'd consider skipping are TALES FROM EARTHSEA and PONYO, but they're not even that bad. their best is either THE WIND RISES or THE TALE OF THE PRINCESS KAGUYA.
So you've seen an embarrassingly low number then. I figured.
Watch The Castle of Cagliostro even though it's not Ghibli.
The Cat Returns is skippable too.
I'm not that user who thought Kurosawa is bad.
I'm someone else who was telling you those guys don't appreciate him because of their low knowledge of cinema.
For fuck's sake.
>The Cat Returns is skippable too.
i guess it could be, but it's too fun and short to bother skipping. worthwhile 70 minutes imo.

It's really good, has a nice Noir vibe and great acting (Anton Walbrook is excellent, as usual). The blu ray version has been out for some time now, I think it has english subtitles
Going to start going through early Kurosawa starting with Sanshiro Sugata
Why is TTSP your favourite?
My bad, but that can be interpreted as "you've seen a zillion movies but you're still a pleb and I'm not :^)".
Porco Rosso
I love how it doesn't disrespect the audience's intelligence: it's a spy movie in which most information has to be decoded by the viewer, nothing is stated obviously, I like that. The romance is very subtle and because of that it's heartbreaking
Every frame has a new information, every piece of music has a meaning in the whole story. The director managed to condense a 400 page into a single movie and not lose any relevant information in the process.
So yeah, it's a movie I like to rewatch from time to time to find new things I hadn't noticed previously
(sorry for my bad english)

To me it seemed it couldn't since your powerlevel was never brought into question.
Everything in /lbg/ should be interpreted as hostile or snarky.
Lets hope a new fad site comes in and all the mentally ill people flock to there.
But many films are like that, especially whodunit types. I figured out who the mole was fairly early on, so the only thing left I had to enjoy was cinematography. Sorry, it was kinda weak for me, except for the stylization.
And I honestly can't even remember the music, I didn't even noticed it during, either.

niceeeeeeeeeeee
i'm not him, but for me a lot of the appeal of films such as TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY isn't necessarily the mystery itself, but watching the characters as they go about solving it. so something like figuring out who the hidden antagonist truly is wouldn't particularly bother me.
love too be downloading coffrets
excited for this

You should just become a tripfag when your autistic way of capitalizing film names makes you stand out this much.

What's some essential french movies and french comedies?
Paraoh is godly in cinematography and photography.
Don't know if you've seen Hourglass Sanatorium and if you liked it, as it's kinda devoid of any sense.
Is that Promised Land (2012)? You should check out a film with a very close title - The Promised Land (1975).
Out of curiosity, are you the type who let's others decide for him?
Oh my goodness it's mira
how are you mademoiselle
>are you the type who let's others decide for him?
not really, no.
le samuraï
TTSS has probably the best atmosphere out of any spy film I've seen. It's just so paranoid and calm at the same time.
It's the following films
SALTO (Jump). dir. Tadeusz Konwicki, 1965
PHARAOH. dir. Jerzy Kawalerowicz, 1965
THE CONSTANT FACTOR. dir: Krzysztof Zanussi, 1980
CAMOUFLAGE. dir: Krzysztof Zanussi, 1976
THE PROMISED LAND. dir. Andrzej Wajda 1974
MAN OF IRON. dir. Andrzej Wajda, 1981
PROVINCIAL ACTORS. dir: Agnieszka Holland, 1978
THE HOUR GLASS SANATORIUM. dir: Wojciech J. Has, 1973
from this coffret milestonefilms.com

>THE PROMISED LAND. dir. Andrzej Wajda 1974
YES! You my friend have struck gold.
There are many really, for classics here is a great list, you can't go wrong with these:
letterboxd.com
For comedies it's harder to say, as french humor is very specific, however this list is a good start (most of these are recent):
letterboxd.com
You may also try movies with Louis de Funes, his comedies are very popular both with French people and foreigners
Don't you think you should have spoilered that?
Ah yes, sorry
it's ur fault if ur afraid of getting spoilered joker killed robin
>But many films are like that, especially whodunit types
Yes, but not to the extend of TTSP : there are some scenes in which literaly every frame has an information, like the scene in which Smiley comes back home to see Bill, and with really small details (shown very quicly), we understand he fucked Smiley's wife while he was away.
It is indeed very easy to find out who the culprit is (he's the only suspect, really), but the real "mystery" to be unravelled is the relationship between the characters, especially betwen Smiley, Bill and Jim (and Smiley's wife), and how it affects them in the long run. It's all very subtle, which is what I like about it.
As for the soundtrack, the songs are essential to understanding said relationship : for instance, “The Second-Best Secret Agent in the World” ramifies outward to several second-besters: that night Jim is Bill’s second-best lover, Smiley is his wife’s second-best lover, and Smiley is the agent outwitted, at that point, by Bill.
Anyway, it's a very cold and dry movie so it's not for everyone and I understand if you're not a fan, but to me there's something really touching and heartbreaking about what's underneath it all
looking good thanks
Didn't you hate L'auberge espagnole tho ?
Yes, I can't stand most of it's actors so I had a hard time watching it, but maybe you will like it?
Yes, I like it, I was kinda looking for personal recommendations based on your taste, but the lists you posted are nice.
post your curve

Well my personal favourite French comedies are:
La Kermesse Héroïque
Knock
Papy fait de la Résistance
Drôle de Drame
La Tour Montparnasse Infernale (only the first one)
Les Visiteurs
Ptit Quinquin
L'assassin habite au 21 (it's a Noir comedy)
Le Père Noël est une ordure
Le Magnifique (with Belmondo, hilarious)
L'auberge Rouge (with Fernandel)
Fanfan la Tulipe (the 1952 version)
and most of Louis de Funes' movies ("La Folie des Grandeurs" especially, and "L'avare")
>Le Père Noël est une ordure
EVERY DAMN FRENCH
Everything by Miyazaki and Takahata + Whisper of the Heart (by as-good a director who unfortunately left us too soon). Go back to Horus, Nausicaa and Lupin as well. Might as well check out the old 50s - 70s Toei Doga while you're at it.
...
What can I say, it's a classic
pathetic
normie
...
Looks good, thanks
I think I prefer L'homme de Rio over Le Magnifique tho.
Did you watch Les tontons flingueurs ? If yes what do you think of it ? One of the greatest comedies imo
I've yet to watch it : it's my uncle's favourite movie and he really wanted to watch it with me, but we never get the occasion so I'll probably watch it by myself at some point
