Everyone knows it was a flop, but how big of a flop?

Everyone knows it was a flop, but how big of a flop?

By my calculations it's made $640 million, with a "projected" (bullshit) budget of $175 million. That means it had $465 million.

It almost definitely went massively over budget, so it's real budget was closer to $250 million, and we know reshoots basically made them remake the movie. So that's already at a LOSS of 35 million dollars. Add to that the marketing and the fact that studios only see half the BO anyway, and you've got this piece of shit sitting at a $650 million dollars in the red.

Plus they paid for a huge amount of toy tie ins, cds, clothes, and the interest for loans, and it's sitting at over a billion dollars LOST.

I honestly can't think of a bigger flop. This is honestly enough of a disaster that it's likely to kill DC completely.

>Everyone knows it was a flop

It wasn't a flop, the rest of your post is worthless.

Probably not a total flop, but also probably performed under expectations.

except that it didn't

it made a shitzillion dollars, the top brass couldn't give less of a shit about reviews

DC aims towards 1 billion. The 175 mil budget is also sounding like bullshit.

This. Bait topic fail.

Wait what the fuck is this math

>640 - 250 = 390
>360 - 250 = 140
>loss of 35 mil

Did you subtract both your budgets you retard?

dumb ss isn't flop, bvs is the most expensive movie ever made, not even billion on box office, bvs is flop not ss.

Math like that will hyperbolically kill DC. Shows over, everyone go home.

Thank you for that succinct summary, Ahmed.

BvS was not a flop, and Suicide Squad made at least 150 million in profit already

Not a flop, but probably should have been. I was actually glad they pruned Joker, but the movie felt like a gigantic waste of time. The suicide squad's entire purpose in the movie would have been null and void if they never formed the suicide squad in the first place. Just Amanda Waller being a fucking idiot and being blackmailed by Bruce Wayne so he can fast track his own super hero team.

they actually aimed at 6 billion, it was a huge flop

>650 million in the red
what the fuck am i reading is this marvel math?

>plus they paid for a huge amount of toy tie ins

That isn't how that works retard. The companies pay the studio, not the other way around.

>paying for toy tie ins, and merchandise

Is this what they do now? I was under the impression these people paid the movie makers (studios) for the licenses! Gee I must be a fucking nut!

>implying DC isn't going to make 10x their money on slutty Harley Quinn/fat kids trying to be buff Joker halloween costumes
It's over OP. You never had a chance.

>what are marketing costs
>"studios only see half the BO anyway"

Consider suicide

>This is honestly enough of a disaster that it's likely to kill DC completely.
Hopefully it will. Same goes for the rest of superhero trash in the next couple years

So literally every capeshit movie is a flop. Do you really think that CW's budget was only $250 mil? Double that and $1 billion doesn't even break even.

Easily the worst movie ever made.

You are stupid

Marvel doesn't have any reason to lie.

>Marvel doesn't have any reason to lie.
What is GotG?

>In January 2015, Disney revealed that the film came in "slightly over the agreed budget" at $232.3 million, with Disney receiving a rebate of $36.4 million from the British government. It was previously estimated to have had a $170 million budget.

Dumb response to a dumb statement.

And yet Guardians was still a huge success

According to Sup Forums math, it wasn't.

>source:my ass

Suicide Squad
>$641,117,209 Worldwide as of yesterday (numbers updated to 08/28, still has to open in Greece and Japan, won't open in China), 28 days run
>Production Budget: $175 million
>Actual PB: let's say $250 million

GOTG
>$773,312,399 Worldwide, 175 days run, opened in China which made $96,470,000 of the whole gross
>Declared Production Budget: $170 million
>Actual Budget, confirmed by Disney: $232.3 million

Therefore by Sup Forums math GOTG is a flop.

Suicide Squad is dead in the water. It's not going to make any more money and it still hasn't broken even.

And as usual DCucks pretend Marketing does not exist

>Disney doesn't do marketing
Keep going.

Remember when Sup Forums thought that this was going to outgross GotG, which happens to be an actual well-crafted movie?

>by my calculations
You're quoting the officially stated budget here.

>It almost definitely went massively over budget, so it's real budget was closer to $250 million
Made up figure with nothing to back it up.

>and we know reshoots basically made them remake the movie. So that's already at a LOSS of 35 million dollars
the film cost £675 million to make?

>Add to that the marketing and the fact that studios only see half the BO anyway, and you've got this piece of shit sitting at a $650 million dollars in the red.
The marketing cost £615 million?

Where do you get these figures from?

WB didn't expect Suicide Squad to rake in a billion
They probably expected it to open in China but even without the second biggest market it did well

>inb4 a guy without a job explains how Hollywood accounting works

>GotG
>well crafted

Honestly please watch real movies. I liked guardians but it was a poorly structured film by any objective standard.

They needed 800 million to break even

They needed 800 million the opening weekend to break even

I heard they needed three billions to break even and a special tax exoneration by the queen of the commonwealth, unfortunatly little prince George didn't like it

How can DC recovers ?

> laughingevans.jpg

>Guardians beat SS domestically by only $33 million
>Suicide Squad's international take is $353 million in its fourth week
>Guardian's total international take is $440m, $96m of which was China
>without China Guardians made $344 in 25 weeks

Guardians was considered a worldwide phenomenon with these numbers, and a budget $57 million dollars higher than Suicide Squad.

Merchandising wise both movies' soundtracks were #1 on the Billboard charts, but SS had more toy and clothing tie ins. Meanwhile Guardians' toys shelfwarmed pretty hard. In the case of Disney Infinity, making Guardians merch was partially to blame for tanking Disney's entire video games division.

>One said that when the developers wanted Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy included, they had to include a full range of characters, including a toy for the blue-skinned Yondu, a relatively minor character from the film. Yondu’s inclusion may have been a well-intentioned gesture to represent the full cast, but the toy was a flop.

>“They couldn’t give them away,” said one source.

>By week 4, Guardians had made $251 million domestic of its $332 million total (and slipped to #2 by its second week)
>By week 4, Suicide Squad has made $287 million domestic

>on Week 4, Suicide Squad lost its #1 spot on the charts to Don't Breathe
>on Week 3, Civil War lost its #1 space on the charts to Angry Birds, falling to #4 in week 4.

I think 640m is around even. This needed to make more than 1bill to satisfy the producers.

cuck

#damaged

You mean WBs finances?

> watch real movies. I liked guardians but it was a poorly structured film by any objective standard.

Wew lad.

Don't bother reasoning with DCucks

I flopped hard at my job yesterday. I projected myself to make 5.348 gorillion, but only actually made about what I normally bring home. Let's just say I was disappointed.

Man, giving a pack of nerds easy access to box office numbers is easily one of the greatest examples of humanity fucking up.

This thread is ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!

Never mind discussing the actual movies, let's rhetorical slapfight over which made more money. Oops, both made a respectable amount and were popular during theater runs. Let's squabble over how much the studios made back for no other reason than to speculate which will collapse because it produced either movie.

>so it's real budget was closer to $250 million
You're a moron.

>and it's sitting at over a billion dollars LOST.
So official budget doesn't make sense to you therefore they lost 1 billion dollars.

Classic Sup Forums

"TOOO BAD IT NEEDS 2BILLION DOLLARS TO BREAK EVEN"

everybody on the internet

A movie can be poorly made but still enjoyable

>MarvelKeks think fun=craftsmanship

>By my calculations

stopped reading right there.

Looking at the numbers alone and the fact it was confirmed that Disney lied about the budget, if Suicide Squad flopped then GotG was a thermonuclear bomb

Should I watch this movie?

and Ant-man would be even worse given how much it was in production hell and it changed the director at a pretty late stage too.

wait for the directors cut if it ever comes out.

No movie actually costs the amount studios say it does.

t. Hollywood accounting

The fact that people are more interested in discussing box offince incomes than the actual quality of the movies says a lot about DC and Marvel movies and about the DC and Marvel "fanbase".

Do you know how many people still need to get paid? How much if that goes to actual theatres themselves

its weird how hollywood even exists anymore considering that every movie needs to break 1 billion to even make a small profit according to Sup Forums

>shitposting and false flagging doesn't exist

Increasingly, what with Hollywood accounting and the Chinese scam of printing you a ticket for whatever movie they've been bribed to promote and telling you to just go to the right screen for what you really want to watch (t. Chinese moviegoer [not me]), multiplex movies look like part of a racket only ostensibly concerned with entertaining people. I don't want to buy into it, personally.

it wasnt a flop but it was a bad movie

>Ooh a capeshit accounting thread

It made some money or at least broke even but that $175 studio declared budget is total bullshit. No way a special effects heavy ensemble piece with Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie with multiple reshoots and recuts cost $175 million. That number is like a punchline to a joke.

>repyling too pasta
> in the year of our lord 2016

>This is honestly enough of a disaster that it's likely to kill DC completely.

Oh come on Disney you can do better than that.

>Meanwhile Guardians' toys shelfwarmed pretty hard. In the case of Disney Infinity, making Guardians merch was partially to blame for tanking Disney's entire video games division

This is not true at all. The demand for Rocket merchandise was/is insanely high. Certain characters were not a success and others were. Disney doesn't give a fuck. They MADE money. If you think yondu sitting on store shelves hurt them you're wrong. Selling Groot and Ronan stuff made up for it easily. Disney didn't know who or what would be the character that has a draw and bet on everyone. They could take the loss of one toy. The fact they're still making new GOTG merch today shows what a success it was for cross-promotion.
