technical aspects don't necessarily have story significance
it started the whole long continuous shot meme
it's pretty impressive since it's pretty long and just perfect
Shitty copy of the Boogie Nights opening shot
you mean hard boiled did
It's significant because there's a ton of shit going on in it and is done perfectly, a lot of actors moving around and talking including shit being moved which brought a ton of potential mishaps
please never look at the comments of scenes from top rated imdb films on youtube ever, i mean just look at these super intelligent film students
The shot represents Karen's introduction into the mob life.
reminder that this did the long shot better
>inb4 someone whips of Children of Men like always
it's an incredible shot and it's used perfectly well.
it makes the viewer viscerally feel the lure of the mafia lifestyle as we glide smoothly through a lavish room and get the preferential treatment. it makes us feel exactly what his gf feels at that moment, it's a perfect use of cinematography in that it makes us feel the precise way that Scorsese wants us to. on top of that it's just very impressive from a technical standpoint.
Set the pacing of the film really well - notice how something happens every beat - he sees some friends, or exchanges a quip or two with his girl, or talks to the waiter
builds the world and more specifically the attitude of his life
If you're really interested, watch 8 1/2 or Quai des Orfèvres. They'll demonstrate the pacing I was talking about - there's something new in every shot, gives the movie world a lot of depth.
The boogie nights opening is far from being impressive
my man!
kys!
also why. what did you not like about it?
I thought that slow but steady camera movement set the film up perfectly
it sort of felt porn-starish cuz of the playful carelessness of it
>0 results fo I Am Cuba
that everyframeapainting guy is great, he taught me how spielberg actually hides his outstanding tracking shots to great effect
i'd say that this counts as bragging but unlike children of men guy, scorsese makes it work probably because his movie is bragadoccio by theme
>its failed student filmmakers bitch about things they'll never be able to pull off thread
>Show less
>I've never seen this movie
Such deep film analysis
Nostalghia has the best long shots
>that bottom comment
That MUST be ironic
