INLAND EMPIRE

Will I ever be able to unsee this?

Probably the scariest film experience I've ever had, genuinely felt like a nightmare.

Never seen the film

What's scary about this picture exactly

>black hole sun
>won't you come

Indeed, very scary. Read this: xixax.com/halfborn/
It will blow your mind. Trust me, it's worth it.

It also explains why you see that face, and why she confronts it, etc.

I wouldn't call it scary, but it unsettling at parts. The parts where Lynch spliced in his Rabbits short creeped me out a little

Can't say I really care for the film, it's way too long and the digital cinematography is incredibly ugly. More of a curiosity than anything else, and probably Lynch's worst

That link looks dodgy as heck but I'm curious to click it, do you have an alternative or could you just let me know what it's on? I'm guessing it's like an article/written analysis on the film.

That's making me want to click it even more, dang.

The whole film felt like a genuine nightmare, I love all of Lynch's films and all of them definitely have a "dreamlike" tone/atmosphere/feel to them... but this one felt like a genuine dream.

Ah fuck, I forgot to censor the picture, sorry bud.

Sorry for anyone else if I spoiled this part for you, I honestly didn't intend on doing that, I've slept for like 3 hours because this film kept me up so much. Don't worry if you wanna see the film though, there's still a lot of stuff to experience that I haven't spoiled.

Yeah, I'm the same person. Indeed, sounds extremely shady, but it's just a personal site I guess of someone who analyses the film. 'No bait, I swear. Or type in google: Inland Empire explained. You'll see it there.

Also, please share your thoughts after you've read it. Anxious to know what you think.

Just about to read it, thanks buddy!

Just read part 1, I keep getting interrupted (gonna be moving out soon) but damn this is interesting so far, I'm definitely getting the sense that this guy has a lot of the same ideas that I do.

one of the most intense jump scares ever created in a long fucking movie that has absolutely no jump scares prior. works too well

Yeah, that was only the intro. You'll be amazed, I'm sure. Can't believe Lynch actually did all that. Beats Mulholland Dr. by far.

Tell me when you've read part 3. This thread may not die.

I'm sure I will be, I love analysing Lynch's films by myself usually and feeling that satisfaction of understanding them but after I finished watching Inland Empire last night I was actually speechless... it would take me a few good weeks to actually dig into it deep enough and I'm way too busy at the moment so thanks for sending me this analysis - great read so far.

The photography ruins it attempt to be dreamlike. Only a plebeian would dream in digital. Anyone with taste dreams in 35mm at 24 fps

I'm pretty sure there was like one or two jump scares prior to that scene, but they were nowhere near as effective.

kek'd, but nah seriously, that dogme 95 style filming always gives me a sense of realism for some reason... it's basically a better version of the found-footage style.

When I started watching this film I was thinking what the fuck is Lynch doing, he lost it. Filming with a camcorder or something? But later it looks spectacular, also the transitions, watching through the burnt hole, etc. Looks great. The camcorder part actually gives a sense of uneeriness, unheimlich.

100% agreed, I was feeling sceptical at the beginning too actually.

The credit sequence was the most jarring thing in the entire experience for me... like, what the hell? Also, was Lynch suggesting that all those black women are like monkeys since he kept inter-cutting the monkey into it?

Bump.

Thanks for bumpin' pal

Waiting for your response, m8

I lost count on how many times I got LYNCHED watching IE

Just finished reading part 2, great stuff, I actually feel kind of smart for deciphering that "reflected evil" segment during the jumpscare by myself, but the fact it was foreshadowed in the beginning completely flew over my head. Masterful stuff, great analysis obviously, I'll get back to ya after reading part 3 - I'm not a slow reader, but my situation at home is really shitty right now and I can't even have some peace and quiet right now.

Okay, maybe not "smart" but I just had that feel of satisfaction when I read it in the analysis, do you know what I mean? 'Cause most times I feel like I'm either reading too far into films or getting the wrong meaning altogether... so seeing someone else recognise the same thing gives me a feel of satisfaction. I don't know, whatever.

>inb4 "you can't read right now but you can type all this shit up?" - I require silence when reading otherwise I can't focus, but I can write when it's noisy and it won't bother me... everyone works differently.

Yeah, great analysis, it blew my mind. I had the same exact experience, like you described it, a nightmare. Indeed great satisfaction when reading it. If I remember correctly part 3 was best.

I kinda wanna read the analysis and not watch the movie but the site says it wouldn't even be interesting. I'm curious what it's about, what the essential message is. If there even is one. I'm not much of a lynch fan but I guess i'll still have to give it a try.
