>Mel Gibson's 'act of atonement' is 'gruesome' and 'powerful' >You’ll be hearing the word “comeback” a lot in reference to Mel Gibson and his latest directorial effort, Hacksaw Ridge. > Gibson's forceful comeback is a violent drama about pacifism that succeeds in combining horror with grace.
Never noticed. Haven't seen it in years, but I remember it being visually stunning.

I saw the trailer for Hacksaw Ridge yesterday when I saw Hell or High Water and it looked like shit. Andrew Garfield sucks and his american good ol boy accent is awful.

The real dude was such a badass the Army wanted to pad his accomplishments, so much so that he had to haggle them down from like 100 troops saved to 50
Bentley White
>It’s not possible to say if Hacksaw Ridge contains the most violent or gruesome combat scenes ever filmed, but let’s just say it resembles Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers without any of the satire or audience-winking.
James Nguyen
Why would Sup Forums have a problem with a movie about a white Catholic man who follows his faith that's directed by a white Catholic man?
Carter Bennett
Yeah, the accents are like a spoof. Also WW2 and Vietnam movies are an overdone dead genre now. I can;t think of anything less interesting than yet another "untold" WW2 story.
Isaac Rivera
it's also wildly historically inaccurate and fell for the "chosen one" meme. that combined with subtitles will ensure it'll never be embraced by the mainstream.
Cameron Rivera
>a white Catholic man
If he's white then so is the entire middle east
Michael Cox
Sup Forums hates Mel Gibson, they have zero tolerance for antisemitism or racism over there. They prefer celebs like Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer.

Partly, Sup Forums inherited the 20th-century tradition of militant anti-Catholic bigotry, which presented the church as a vehicle for tyranny, paganism, immorality, persecution and every anti-Christian force. Sup Forums rehearsed the ancient charges of American nativism about Catholic evils, including the Inquisition, the seditious secret oaths taken by the Knights of Columbus, and the conspiratorial nature of the Jesuit order. So much was familiar—but from the 1890s the US experienced a mass immigration largely derived from Eastern and Central Europe, and newer groups were heavily Catholic and Jewish in character.
In the Sup Forums view, surging Catholic power threatened to overwhelm American society and values. In the previous century, the Church in the United States had grown from fifty thousand adherents and 35 priests to twenty million faithful with a vast network of clergy, schools and seminaries. Catholic strength was founded on “Alienism,” “the unassimilated hordes of Europe,” which threatened American racial purity. The nightmare was that all Americans would someday be subjected to Catholic tyranny, and that a Catholic would someday attain the presidency.
Looking at Sup Forums today, two points strike us most forcefully. One is the near-total oblivion that has overcome the religious element, so that even Sup Forums themselves today recruit Catholics, and deny that Sup Forums ever felt differently. Secondly, immigrants (and their faiths) rapidly became assimilated into American life. Today, we scoff at the charges Sup Forums made against the Catholic or Jewish newcomers, and how they declared that such alien populations as Poles and Irish, Slovaks and Italians could never become truly American. A generation or two later, those immigrant families had themselves become hyper-American, so that even Sup Forums could not fault their devoted patriotism.

I didn't even know Mel was making another film, and a WWII flick to boot. Hype as fuck, he was always one of hollywoods best directors but was cut down in his prime due to a few stupid mistakes

im a big fan of gibson, but it looks pretty shit desu.
well made for sure, but the vibe reminds me of war horse.
Owen Bailey
First movie I've hyped for in a very long time.
He never beat her. And she was exactly what he was calling her, she purposely antagonized him and then recorded the response so it would appear as if she hadn't done anything. She was scum and following the lawyer to the T so that she could get as much money from him as possible.

Holy fucking just.

This doesn't look made up to me. It looks like Mel Gibson, the drunk who drives cars drunk and abuses people nonstop all the time, may have struck her on the face. Maybe not though, you never know, she might have fallen.

We Were Soldiers is a manly fucking movie.
Anything directed by him is fucking great as well, even if its not necessarily that accurate. The Patriot is pretty manly if you can handle the characterizations are fiction.
I like the production design and acting but this movie sucks, its story is incredibly stupid and relies on a genuine, actual prophecy (already a stupid decision) more moronic than Star Wars
Mason Edwards
They are using him for their own agenda.
David Wright
doesn't mean much to me that you think that since i don't believe in morals and if anything it makes me laugh that you desperately cling to any reason to feel better than someone who tells you the truth you wish to deny

i think mel's cool regardless of his beliefs but i also think he's a pretty bad director. all the movies he has directed have been bad. maybe this one won't be but i doubt it. garfield sucks and pacifism is for pussies
