MFW realizing I'm the only oldest person on Sup Forums that remembers having only three TV networks to watch and Jerry Lewis telethons airing on all three the entire Labor Day weekend.

What's the appeal for you about this place, Gramps?

>40+ years old
>Still posts on a Taiwanese masturbation discussion and kegel exercises forum

Honest opinions, uncensored.

Is there much value in those opinions though? This is a shitposting board.

True. It takes quite a bit of patience to vary the bullshit, verses legitimate honest opinions, but that is pretty much everything. At least here negative opinions are as abrasive, and as crude as it should be.
On youtube, idiots spam the shit out of you if they disagree, so at least here when the thread sinks, its over.

Fair enough. Are you married or are you a lonely old man?

Nope. Absolute 40 something manchild, too old, and too poor to get laid. When shit's this fucked you either accept it, move on, or kill yourself. I've accepted it, and refused to kill myself because other people can't deal with it.
So long as I can wipe my own ass, I'm staying alive.

Do you live alone or are you still with your parents?

Mom is still alive. I depend on her. She's lonely as fuck, and really doesn't want me independent, and leaving her alone. Shits fucked.

Depend on her as in you don't work?

I'm 25 and I remember when we only had three channels desu.

I'm 19 and for most of my childhood we had 5 channels, 2 of which were commercial-free and government funded.

Every time I make an inch of a move to gain income or independence she goes nuts, threatens to call the police, have me jailed, or out on the street.

that explains a lot about you. sorry, user

That sounds like an unhealthy Norman Bates tier relationship. Cord should have been cut over 20 years ago. Did your dad die when you were really young?

That is some Norman Bates shit. Kill your mother, you'll feel liberated.

What's worse is nobody believes me about this:So, fuck it. Accept it, and move on, stay happy. Could be much worse.

It basically made us go outside and do things. Jerry Lewis telethon was boring as shit. 38 y/o user.

Post your age, faggots.

>32

Army kid? Sounds like Armed Forces Network.

Fucked up situation but a good philosophy.

I wish I could not have bills or work and let my mom take care of me.

37 here. Lying on my single size bed in my underwear browsing Sup Forums on my 2008 laptop. No complaints.

moar anissa kate

It could also be more much, much better.

Okay. She's great, isn't she?

It does have advantages. Everything has pluses, and minuses.
You're stated the pros, but the con is no future. Although, that could be true for most everything.

What do you do when she dies? Does she have any money to leave you?

i only had two channels, but if we went outside and turned the antenna we could sort-of get a 3rd.

fuck jerry lewis

44 years old reporting in. Grew up in in the Solomon Islands, never even saw TV until I was 11 years old.

The world is a much stranger place than most people imagine it to be.

Sounds like all of Finland from that timeframe.

Bro, you're 40+

The future has already passed you by.

Actually if I were you, I'd just wait until mom dies, sell the house and most of the posessions, and live in a cheap studio until I died.

remember when Jerry Lewis called Elmo a faggot in one of his last telethons?

Actually just Australia.

There might have been more channels in the city, and I know there was less in even more rural areas.

ABC had kids shows and no ads, generally the best channel from a very young child's perspective, Play School, Banana's in Pyjama's, Angelena Anaconda. Also had other good stuff for older audiences: Doctor Who was here when it started its new run.

Channel 7 had nothing of value to me. Had ads.

Channel 9 was the same.

Channel 10 had better shows for slightly older kids, Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, dragonball Z on every morning before school if you got up at 6:00am. It also had the Simpsons on a 6pm 5 nights a week. But sadly it had ads.

SBS was the weird channel. Had some wholesome family fun like Mythbusters, but also lots of weird stuff, you watched this if your parents were out because you knew you weren't meant to. South Park was here, and lots of forien films and Nazi Doco's.

That is the plan, but I'm also trying to use my computer/internet connection to slowly gain income with what talents I have which I cannot be shared about because that would identify who I am too much.

how would that identify you?

>identify who I am too much

I'm willing to bet no one on here knows any 40 year old shut ins who live with their mum.

I'm EXTREMELY sensitive about people connecting the dots...

What skill? What websites would he be able to share such a skill online?

Whose 40, and lives with his mom?

Never know, there could potentially be someone lurking here that knows someone I know who could make the connections, and identify. ALWAYS leave a broken trail, left to misdirection when sharing information about one's self.
DO NOT name specifics, websites, location, etc....

If you can't be seen, you can't be killed.

are you the hacker known as Sup Forums?

You're wanting to hack my shit?

I do not know such a person.

Oh so you're mentally ill and blame your mom for everything.
got it.

52yo, here. 3 network, plus 2 crappy UHF stations. I actually pledged $5 to the telethon once, but never sent the money.

Isolation does bring on some form of mental illness. I would be surprised if I didn't have some. The thing about acceptance with one's self means insults don't bother you. Since I've accepted my situation taunts from anons don't bother me.

Also, most people have mental illnesses in some form or another. Most are just skilled at hiding it.
Say for example those that think they're superior by insulting anonymous people. Such a person is deluded with a false self identity of superiority.

I remember watching television on a 12" black and white TV with rabbit ears you had to fiddle with every 10-15 minutes.

i feel disgusted knowing there are old people here using our memes and acting like one of us

37. Dont know how many channels were on tv because my dad had over 2k invested in home entertainment.

>our
>12yo brats create anything of value beyond dirty underwear

kys

>old failed fart acts like he's relevant to society
just by posting here as an old man you've no say on who creates something of value. Are you the delusional walking abortion that lives with his mom?

Such prejudice. What exactly bothers you? That old people could have a dirty sense of humor just like you?
Let me remind you that some day you will be old, and someone your age will express the same, and on that day you will be just as amused as I am now.

Also, not all old people are dumb, or naive. All of us are learning about life as we go. We're all on our own path learning from each of our experiences different at different times.
Don't assume I know more than you, or that you know less than I do.
Seldom to we realize, or admit how much we don't know. We all pretend. We all want to blend in, and not be out of place.

Yep, I remember. ABC, NBC, and CBS. We didn't get a local FOX station til I was in middle school and it was from another town about ah hour away, you had to have a decent directional antenna to pick it up.

Oh shit. Hello, friendo.
We actually had four channels, but I didn't include PBS. But yes, a good directional antenna that swivels.

All three broadcasting Jerry Lewis. But back then since it was the only thing on, the entertainment was much better. It is where I first saw the Tears For Fear video for Sowing The Seeds, but that was towards the later 80s.

Another 40 year old user reporting in.

4 channels (ABC, CBS, NBC & PBS) and a B&W TV when I was little. Color TV, 5 channels (Fox) and a VHS player as a teen. No cable or internet until I got to college.

Why am I (still) here? Habit. Keeping in touch with youth culture and a genuine interest in film keep me coming back.

Also, try to remember that no matter if old or young the only people that come back here are people that can put up with this shit.
Uptight shits don't come here if they can't handle the truth.

As I told user above, I like that when you argue about something in here when the thread sinks its over, done, where as in youtube they'll spam the shit out of you forever.
I still have get spams from the IMDB Message board from a comment I made 12 fucking years ago.

Remember me as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I,
As I am now, so you will be,
Prepare yourself to follow me.

t. triggered old fart

No, not triggered. Trying to help. Provide some insight from my POV.

you told them

I forgot we had PBS too...kinda. That station came out of the same FOX town a ways off and didn't come in too well. If the weather was bad here (or there), forget it.

Why would I be triggered by an anonymous opinion on a medeival croatian puppetry exchange? I grew up in a time when we all had thicker skin. Here's your (You).

Whatever you say i'd do it backwards tbdesu, don't bother

>them

Listen kid, samefagging to compliment yourself doesn't mean shit.

here's yours, looks like you need some attention

I only remember having the 3 channels and then basic cable in the early days.

My grandparents on the other hand always had one of these bad motherfuckers right here any one ever own one of these?

He was correct. There is at least 2 oldfags here, maybe more.

26 here. This is the first year I have been genuinely feeling old

>the only people that come back here are people that can put up with this shit.

You mean the dilution of content due to shitposting and the triumph of Web2.0.

The middle schoolers here don't understand that some of us have been on the internet since the 1980s and know far more than they do. They also can't see how manipulated some of these boards are...where the real profit comes from.

>everyone who disagrees with me is the same person

Be careful! You might give him PTSD by disagreeing with him. The young'uns are pure pussies.

this is embarrassing, gramps

>old-school satellite dish
sheeeeeeit. My folks got one. You could catch all kinds of raw feeds and weird international shit. All the satellites had letter/number designations as well as channel channels and then a H/V(?) switch as well. Channels would change satellites or channels on an every-couple months' basis so you could never remember what was where. Whatever the TVGuide equivalent was for satellite dishes (ICR name) was essential.

>yfw the motor went out

*channel numbers

Paleo-fags: can you imagine r9k types existing 20 years ago? People would have slapped them in the face, told them to act like a man, and come back when they got a life. The whiny crybaby stuff didn't fly.

I pray for a major war just to get these assholes off their asses.

I've heard about that. You could sometimes catch the network news casters at their desk when it wasn't on network broadcast.

Legit 45 year old Britfag here. We literally only had BBC 1&2 and ITV which hardly ever worked, when I was a kid. Also there was no 24 hour TV, the BBC channels used to stop broadcasting at about 11pm.

Yeah the good old days of 1995, when that paragon of manliness Kurt Cobain was the most famous guy around

Do you think Cobain was whining about Chads, betas, friendzones, being scared to order at Mcdonalds, planning his wizard/vitginity night, jacking off to lolis?

Oh, that's right....he was busy being a rock star with a hot gf, groupies, drugs, money, etc.

timeline 00:47

youtube.com/watch?v=2n34eeXWjUQ

when the motor went out my dad took it off and put a crank on.
we had the satellites marked off on the shaft deal so we knew where to stop

>tfw you sneak out of bed at night for cinemax soft core and have to sneak outside in the dark with a flashlight to crank the dish while constantly looking around you to make sure no coyotes were sneaking up on you from out of the woods.
>tfw you had to do it again to get it back on the original satellite after you were done recording it onto the end of shitty vhs movies no one ever watched so you could take it back to your room and jerk off in safety with the door locked and headphones on.
>tfw one day that showed one of the emmanuelle movies that had actual penetration and vaginas and you watched it over and over and over and over instead of having to watch the ugly old lady vaginas from real sex.

It would be cool if it were 60-70 yo people. But when it's 30-50yos it's depressing.

That is, when it's 30-50yo's with shit lives/no accomplishments

>telethons

I saw one of these in Parks and Rec and was confused the whole episode.

So, tv networks would just take over tv and beg for money for an entire night? Who would watch that?

>Who would watch that?

Usually no one, but as stated only three TV networks all broadcasting exactly the same telethon at the same time from Friday evening until Monday evening.

Most people did other things, but you'd catch it at some point if football didn't interrupt it.
Without VHS, cable, or anything to watch you had to find something else to do...crappy atari games, or ....brace yourself - go outside.

RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS
NONSTOP ACTION

Any ancientfags from the New York tristate area will remember this commercial.

youtu.be/cQ0fD3MgTew

>go outside
This. As a kid growing up in the 70s&80s, there was nothing more boring than being stuck in the house. Everyone just played outside in the street etc.

I dunno what this dude is talking about, when I was a teenager we threw a bunch of TVs out the window and smoked heroin and shit

I honestly think it's more a symptom of hand-wringing among parents than it is any kind of laziness on the kid's part.

I worry our generation is going to go the route of our parents and resent our children for things we've inflicted upon them.

Damn I'm 22 and thought I was the oldest here.

Absolute madman

>2007
>I'll probably stop using Sup Forums around age 25

>2009
>I'll probably stop using Sup Forums once I'm 30

>2014
>I'll stop once I'm married

>2016
Why am I still here?

That's every generation but I assure you my generation hates the previous one way more than they hated their parents.

To suffer

Probably. Can't worry about what you can't control. I mean you can, but there is no point. Honestly I feel sorry for this generation. You have to have a college degree to get top tier at Starbucks. They're spending lots of money they'll NEVER pay back to get shitty jobs that won't pay enough to save anything.

Unless they're already well off, in which case none of that matters.

We're in a system we can't change, and none of us has the power to change it. We can bitch & complain we that we want, but we can't change anything if no one can agree on anything.

I remember all that shit, man. Was born in the 1970s.

When the president was on, that was the only fucking thing you had to watch. All those Macys parade floats. All those saturday morning cartoons with smurfs, snorks, he-man, she-ra, Fraidy cat, and G.i. joe. Watching MASH as it aired with my dad.

The dad I discovered the Spice channel, by stopping the dish from turning between satellites, was like the day I was alone with the internet and all the porn in the world.

I got to watch all the TNMT episodes like months before they aired officially in the USA because they were all on repeat on some satellite for execs or something.

>I didn't have anyone to talk to about them for the longest time

G5 F4 were both my favs.

lol Remember those remotes that used radio instead of infrared to change the channels so you could be anywhere in the house to change it?

we had 2 of them and I would sneak 1 out and bring it with my to the local coffee shop. they had the same satellite equipment and the remotes worked between them and they had a big tv for everyone to watch. I'd change it to spice or playboy. I even did it when we drove by. It was hilarious.

>go to play laser tag
>bring a remote control
>infinite ammo, no reload, just beam spam everyone
>get carried away and kicked out

Heroes get remembered, legends never die.

I find these posts funny, kids who got raised by Sup Forums think they will outgrow it.
