Is french new wave all about naked guy and girl lying in bed talking about whatnot for 1 hour 30 min?
At least both Breathless and Hiroshima mon amour were exactly this.

I have 0 interest in ever watching Breathless. I say A Band Apart and thought it was occasionally charming but mostly dull. They seem to be mostly the same
French New Wave is shit.
Want to some good French cinema?
Stick to Poetic Realism, Melville, Audiard (son and father) and Pialat.
Can you give me some actual films?
Do your own homework.
Hiroshima mon amour is not nouvelle vague.
Hiroshima mon amour was about slapping a woman if she gets too hysterical
A lot of it is, but all the new wave directors had their own style. You should see The 400 Blows before you give up.
I've seen it.
>where are the car chases and shooutouts
>why are they talking instead of blowing things up
Well he didn't lay around in bed for an hour and a half. I'd also recommend Godard's Vivre sa Vie and Agnès Varda's Cleo from 5 to 7.
Epstein, Carné, Claire Denis, Chris Marker, Démy, Cocteau, Renoir, Bresson and Buñuel and Ophüls' French films are essential too
Carné and Renoir belong to the Poetic Realism movement.
Démy directed ridiculous musicals, Peau d’Âne is laughable. Nobody takes him seriously.
Bresson's filmography is inconsistent. His greatest film is "Pickpocket".
Buñuel's only good film is "Belle de jour". "Un chien Andalou" is remembered for its visual but it is empty, totally shallow and self-centered. Like most works from surrealist artists.
Chris Marker is good, indeed.
Ophüls has never done something an American director of his era wouldn't have been able to do.
Claire Denis? Are you fucking serious?
Marker is good, indeed.
>Ophüls has never done something an American director of his era wouldn't have been able to do.
What does that even mean?
Hiroshima, Mon Amour is about the gradual fading of memory. How the fading of feeling following love is analogous to the fading knowledge of pain in conflict.
It's about how, the farther everyone gets from a collective knowledge of the hardship and pain caused by war, the less averse they will become to war.
It's an exploration of how humans deal with those extreme emotions and how those feelings fade and set them up to repeat their mistakes again and again.
Breathless is literally just about not taking movies seriously and not trying to live up to movie heroes or antiheroes. It's extremely shallow compared to Hiroshima Mon Amour.
lel u so edgy, poppa.
>he didn't lay around in bed
he did when they smoked cigars, rememebr?
Playtime is the only good French movie. The rest are shit
No dude. Talkin is fine. Citizen Kane is fine. The problem is that it's young hipsters naked talking.
Implying Carne's Les enfants du paradis was not about stupid cunt fucking everyone.
Implying Renoir's La règle du jeu was not about stupid cunt fucking everyone.
Implying Bresson's Au hasard balthazar was not about stupid cunt fucking everyone.
Implying Truffaut's Jules et Jim was not about stupid cunt fucking everyone.
etc
french films are literally all about cuckolding all day and every day
>Breathless is literally just about not taking movies seriously
I never thought about it this way... Really makes me think now...
Oh yea. A guy sits on a sounding chair literally ten fucking thousand times, and each time I am supposed to lmao.
