what?
wew lad you stopped to smell the rosaries?
that first whiff... anal beads you can be sure
Soon you'll realise that this is better than Eden (but not Laughing Stock).
Laughing Stock is better.
Yeah its fucking good.
i mean.. it's great... but it's no Laughing Stock
Hollis s/t = Spirit of Eden > Colour of Spring > Laughing Stock
Laughing Stock is kind of staticky and a little too sparse at times, even though that's its thing.
In no way is it worse than Colour of Spring, though
Listen to Laughing Stock.
Not only is it better, it'll one of the best experiences of your life.
Time It's Time is their best closing song. So beautiful
I agree with that, although it doesn't have great competition. Wealth is nice.
This is my opinion. People say SoE is underrated but I think it's rated just right... Laughing Stock is its progression in every single way.
LS doesn't have the raw emotional peaks that SoE has, though. Because it's a bit more conventional, granted, but I really think its what Talk Talk did best. I Believe In You... jesus christ
this was intended to
I agree with you except that New Grass is beyond anything on SoE.
People say that, but for me the only time that album reaches the emotion of SoE is Myrrhman
That's probably their best song, imo
I dont understand the hype surrounding this band.
Laughing Stock > Hollis > Spring > Eden
Cheesy new age sounding garbage. Hollis thinks he's Charles Mingus and Miles Davis' cloned white child, yet all he does is put together players that sound like middle school jazz band musicians.
I don't think he's trying to be like either of those people
I honestly cannot understand why everyone prefers Laughing Stock. Nothing on that album matches the sheer emotion conveyed through Spirit of Eden's songs. That may be a petty complaint, but to me Spirit of Eden has always felt like it came from a more honest place, while alot of Laughing Stock felt kind of clinical in comparison.
listen to them again
Please god make mark Hollis come out of retirement.
don't procreate you fuckwit
Mark Hollis and Jeff Mangum collab album when?
He made this for a TV show some time ago:

I wish he'd expand on this sound, kind of like late Talk Talk but more modernized.
The fact that this board prefers LS to SoE is really the most telling aspect about how /mu really wishes they understood a fucking thing but ultimately music just flies right over their head.
SoE is a trascendant and sincere masterpiece, LS is amazing but the water is muddied. Mark Hollis is a better album than LS, but SoE is truly a timeless work.
LS is an improvement on everything SoE is, I mean both albums are amazing but still.
The fact that mu has people shitting on each other over ranking Talk Talk albums just shows how much it is about posturing rather than liking music.
How so?
Are you implying that music is entirely subjective and it's perfectly reasonable to enjoy Talk Talk albums in different ways? Preposterous.
Whats their best non-LP song and why is it John Cope?
Correct posture is important, which is why understanding that SoE is fundamentally superior is the healthiest choice.
I love LS, but it gets in its own way, treads excessively on beaten paths, and suffers from muting the sublime colors found in SoE.
LS does what it sets out to do, but many facets are done better elsewhere, some decades earlier by different bands.
SoE is distinct and watershed, and influncens you can trace elsewhere are improved upon and perfected. It's truly a sublime masterwork of western music.
If you don't see that then go back to your memes and your disaffected irony, maybe you'll get it some other day in the future.
I dig that song a lot. If you've been spreading it here for a while, it was probably you that turned me on to it. Thanks.
a little harsh but good stuff, hard to give voice to why SoE has better carpentry
Indeed I'm being too harsh. Honestly when I was first introduced to these albums I warmed to Laughing Stock first. It's been years now tho, and Spirit of Eden can still drop my jaw where Laughing Stock can feel a bit clinical, as an earlier poster described.
Both are astounding albums.
I know right? It's absolutely beautiful.
Yup....
This balances 1980s hip hop sound of their earlier albums and the prog rock of their later albums; Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.
