Not entirely true. RTD asked Moffat if he minded, and Moffat simply said "I'm using the Daleks in Series 5." It was RTD who decided to hold off and not use them in End of Time so that Moff's Dalek story could have more fanfare (and we all know how that turned out).

RTD's initial idea was to have had the Daleks teamed up with Rassilon and the High Council in the final days of the War.

>the Daleks teamed up with Rassilon and the High Council
Teamed up? As in on the same side and not fighting? The fuck?

I'm genuinely intrigued by the extra Dalek story. I mean, what else can Moffat do with them now? Can he actually surprise us with a new concept?

I once had an idea where crazy people from the future captured a Dalek and made a reality show out of it where people would need to survive against the Dalek in some place and the one who doesn't die wins. The Doctor and Clara would get beamed up in the game against their will. But I feel like it's too close to the Satellite thing from Series 1.

Yes, that's what "teamed up" generally means. It's not entirely dumb though: Rassilon was bonkers, and it'd make sense for one of his idea to be forming an alliance in order to get his own way. I don't think RTD finished forming the idea though.

>I'm genuinely intrigued by the extra Dalek story.
What extra Dalek story?

>extra
I meant next

I hope Moffat ditches the "trying to add some new twist to the Daleks" thing for his last story, and instead focuses on making them just a genuinely good threat in quite a simple story. Low key, not some bombastic shite. Something more akin to Dalek than, say, Witch's Familiar.

I'm reading Writer's Tale right now, and I'm starting to think RTD's both brilliant and utterly insane.

>he wrote Torchwood Series 2 on a rush, not knowing what he would do.

Ashildr's desire to be a teller of stories, and how she was overconfident, as well as brave, plus the comfy interactions of Twelve and Clara, made it good. The cheesiness was there, but it wasn't overbearing--and using the power of reputation to defeat the villains, instead of violence, was pure Who.

It's considered weaker because the GOAT immortal stuff is interrupted by a fire-breathing lion that doesn't need to be there. And Me's moral development is executed awkwardly, even though it works in theory.

Were probably not getting a Dalek story in S10.

The Doctor was about to lock everyone in the Time War forever, so it would make sense for them to do anything to get out.

They'll appear in some way, shape or cameo. If Moffat's bored of them, maybe he'll co-write a Dalek story with someone. Maybe he'll leave them for Christmas (that'd be new at least).

>and using the power of reputation to defeat the villains, instead of violence, was pure Who
I couldn't get over 'space Youtube' personally. And honestly I don't remember much else about the episode than Monty Python, space Youtube and awkward emotional ending. I need to watch it and the rest of Series 9 again with a fresh mind, I want to do it at the end of my rewatch of every episode but I'll probably cave and watch them sooner

We 100% are.

I've had this exact idea.

They'll probably be the monster in the Christmas special. They need to use them every year, right?

Nope. It'll be a cameo like Series 6.

You're right. When asked about whether or not the Bill introduction clip was going to feature proper in the series, Moffat said he wasn't sure but that he could/might work it in somewhere. There's definitely gunna be a Dalek story, introductory clip inserted or not.

Some say that technically they've already used them this year, in the form of Bill's little short.

Frankly, at this point, IF there is some "Daleks must be used annually" contract, I'd be all for the Nation estate retracting it for a handful of years. Give them a break. (Obviously they won't because £££ but it'd be nice, just for two or three series.)

Are you writing in the anthology?

I was planning to but since I've yet to start by now it probably won't happen. The other person who requested the end date be pushed back still needs time though, I think

Post Best Companion

It's been pushed back. And please try to at least write a short something!

Ok

Damn. I always forget about the 26 seasons that came pre-reboot.

Reminder to write for the anthology! I'm just your average user who loves to write fanfic!

Silly goose, sometimes I post from from my phone, and I can't get my trip to work right on it. So I just post without it at that time.

No companion is the best, but she's still my favorite.

uh huh

...

Don't "uh-huh" me, cats.

Your favourite serial is shit!

SHIT!

I was going to refute you, but then I remembered how much I love 'The Gunfighters'.

>implying you don't like the Ballad

I've never actually met a single person who disliked mine

Don't go to gallifreybase

Shit's on my iPod.

Cemented Troughton as one on my favorites

I actually made an account there a week or so ago but for some reason it's yet to be verified.

What are the arguments against it like?

I messaged you here

Yeah, I saw, I just didn't want to bluntly say "I'll try but don't expect anything". But yeah, I'll try but don't expect anything. I'm very bad at sitting down and writing with no inspiration

You can do it! Do you need a prompt?

Nah, it's fine

B-but it should be showing up in a few threads...

There's a handful of good posters - I visit occasionally for Obverse updates - but also a lot of autism and zero tolerance for memes and funposting. Plus Cheers Jon Blum seems to hang out there all day.

Oh, I meant arguments against liking The Mind Robber. I was only planning on lurking

I'll take a prompt.

Any particular Doctor or companion you prefer?

Eleven.
Not Amy.

A mysterious castle. A possessed woman. Quarks (how you interpret that is up to you).

The Eleventh Doctor, and either Jenny Flint (wife of Madame Vastra), Strax, Nyssa of Traken, Jamie, or Amy Pond, as a companion.

If you want to reroll for another prompt, you can.

Reroll.

An intergalactic town, based on the Wild West. A walking octopusoid bounty hunter. Rock stars.

The Eleventh Doctor, and either Clara Oswald, Dodo Chaplet, Zoe Heriot, or Amy Pond.

Where are you getting these?

Um, I'm making them up.

Alright, then. Here's a computer generated list:

Eleventh Doctor / Steven - animal transformation & empty nest & locked in
Ace / Steven / Eleventh Doctor - runaways & lost childhood
Dodo Chaplet / Eleventh Doctor / Handles - mistletoe kiss & screw the rules I have money! & amnesia
Dodo Chaplet / Steven - hooker au

>Dodo Chaplet / Steven - hooker au

I'm sure this is a plot point in Who Killed Kennedy?

Not really, but good joke.

What other Who characters do you like (for all media)?

>he doesn't wanna see "Steven catches a Dodo" special adult-rated audio narrated by Fraser Hines as Two

Anyone one else want a prompt? Either original or computer-generated? Tell me who your fave characters are.

Who Killed Kennedy is good, btw.

What did they mean by this?

What the fuck am I looking at? Some kind of knockoff?

No, this is the real series 4 DVD set published by the BBC. tbf I've had it for years and didn't notice until now.

What country are you in? What year was this issued?
I need details.

>another young sexy Doctor
>more explicit Doctor/companion romance
Counting those as one because if one happens then so does the other

Painting the Tardis red

Hopefully you didn't pay too much for that cause if you did you got ripped off.

Man... just when I start collecting the whole show on DVD.

A Doctor that isn't a white dude.

USA
I dunno, I assume '08 or '09.

It has everything it's supposed to have and looks fine on the outside so I can't complain too much, but it is an absolutely astonishing fuckup. I can only assume that the disc titles were typed up by a drunk, blind person and never double-checked.

Well I have that same set... better check

>not wanting a Dormer Doctor.

That's your prompt, then. Make a Dormer Doctor fic.

But seriously, have these prompts helped you?

I would like a Dormer Romana. Or Romana equivalent.
Then again, I'm sick of feisty women companions for a while. Give Twelve a Jamie to be space bros with.

And the prompts were fine. But I'm kinda spent creatively. Too focused on my other work to spare time for fanfic. AND on top of that, I haven't seen a Matt Smith episode in over a year. Kinda rusty.

Why don't you want a non-white or female Doctor?

Because there will be no reason for it other than to cater to the whiners. If you want to fill this stupid diversity quota, fine. Create new characters. Don't hijack established ones to appease loud idiots. Even the idea of regenerating into a new gender or race was only really introduced in the new series. No one gave a shit when the classics were airing. No one should give a shit now.

People were thinking of regenning into different genders since at least 1980s (Syndey thought of it). Verity thought of it around the Seventh Doctor's casting. There was a female Doctor fanfilm made in the 80s, and that Doctor was rather good.

There's no reason not too.

I want to see a female Doctor fic from you, by the 15th!

>Even the idea of regenerating into a new gender or race was only really introduced in the new series. No one gave a shit when the classics were airing.
Not true.

Thanks for that, wanderer.

>I want to see a female Doctor fic from you, by the 15th!

You know you suck any enjoyment out of this project when you take on the role of a 5th grade English teacher, nagging us about what we're going to write and when we're going to do it. Step back before you outlive your welcome here, being a task master for something that's supposed to be fun.

I was more teasing him about not liking a female Doctor. I don't expect him to actually write one. I'm pretty easy-going about the whole thing.

What would a female doc story even be about?

No I really need you to think about it:if it's going to be a good doctor who story then you are only changing the pronouns and the change becomes superfluous. If it's a story that hinges on the Female gender then you have to accept it's more a gender story than a doctor who story, which makes the change too unsubtle to be tasteful. If you soften the blow by including every other element of a doctor who story, youd have a male companion calling out a female doctor, which sends the wrong message.

In essence it's an unwinnable scenario. You can't even find a good balance about how flawed to make a female doctor without criticism

Or...you could just make a normal Who story, with a woman as the Doctor. Or, have the Doctor show up, trying to explain that there's an alien around, and be ignored by the men who think they know better. Have the Doctor show up in 1700s, and be accused of being a witch, while trying to save the locals from aliens.

Obviously, there would be criticism. But that doesn't matter, because there's always criticism. A win scenario isn't "no criticism"--it's a good Doctor Who story, with yet another Doctor, who keeps to the code ("never cruel, never cowardly, and if you mess up, make amends"). That's pretty easy to do. Some eps could take advantage of her gender, while some could be normal episodes.

Also, why does the companion have to be male, if the Doctor is female? Why can't there be more than one companion?

But they wouldn't do it for actual story purposes. The only reason they would do it would be to pander and break under all of the pressure SJWs are putting on them. The Doctor has been a man for the entire run of the show, and it's worked out just fine. Not EVERYTHING has to change. Even with Doctor Who.

Yeah, I agree. Karen is fine, less keen on Amy.

From what I remember it was shit like only the first episode is any good & the story is too nonsensical and silly. Then they said they even preferred the Space Pirates.

So basically "I hate fun"

(Except when the fun involves Milo Clancy?)

But they aren't doing it for the fans. Moffat made Missy and the General's cross-gender regens, not for the fans per se, but because he supported the idea.

Maybe they wouldn't be pandering. Maybe they think it's a good idea.

By the way, one other main Time Lord has become female in one regen, during Big Finish's reign. No one was asking for it, but they did it (and it was for story purposes.)

Personally I'd treat it as "a Time Lord is an entity with X personality traits (in the Doctor's case eccentricity, love of adventure, compassion, a certain rebellious streak) who can manifest in any form - young or old, male or female, any ethnicity, sexuality, whatever". It's an interestingly weird idea, and makes the Time Lords more alien to counteract that whole post-Deadly Assassin "blokes in stupid hats sitting round a council room" thing. Of course, the vital bit is they'd have to cast purely on personal acting style and not do it for tumblr points - I don't see Hayley Atwell, for example, as being particularly Doctorish, or the lady General being much good compared to Ken Bones.

I agree with this idea, although Hayley might be good. She really wants the role, apparently.

Missy still has the traits of a Master (evil, calculating, haughty, frenemy with the Doctor, likes complicated schemes), after all.

I'd like a more alien Time Lord society overall.

Yeah, Missy is an example of gender change working well, I always wonder what Moff saw her in to get the idea

He probably just talked to her, realized how barmy (in a good way) she was, and found a role for her.

Still can't believe she's 49. Scottish-Mexican genes ftw

Sorry, I'm still just really hoping for Emma Thompson.
Eugh, Space Pirates.
