I need to draw on the infinite wisdom of Sup Forums.
How do I find x?
Since it's caturday, there shall also be cats.

...

...

Figure out the angles first,

you should be able to get a few off the mark.

...

I already have all the angles and lengths of the major triangle, just need to find the value of x, when the triangle is folded like shown.

trigonometry you idiot

...

...

...

If 10, 5.7 and 11.5 are the full side lengths, then
5.7/10 = x/(10-x)
Now simply solve four eggs.

...

x/(10-x) = 5.7/10 (Similar triangles, ratios the same in small and large triangles)

x = 57/15.7 = 3.63

Thanks mate.
I'm still learning, not exactly a mathemagician yet.

Now, on with the cats!

If it's a 30/60/90, how can the short side be 5.7 if the hypotenuse is 11.5?

>5.7 * 2 = 11.4
>11.5 / 2 = 5.75
There's some sort of rounding error either way. Walk away from this mess.

Yeah I noticed that, too.. 10 would be 9.87 or something.. but I think user solved it in principle

If 5.7 is the length of the small triangle in the top left, then x must =5.7, as the two opposite angles are both 45°, meaning the lengths are the same.

Top right even

However, root(10^2+5.7^2) is 11.7, implying that 5.7 is the adjacent and 10 is the opposite.

Small rounding error
sqrt(10^2+5.7^2) = 11.51043

Because you are underage faggot. Ask mommy to help you with your homework

You're not worthy.

I started out with 30/90 angles, and the hypotenuse. The rest wasn't really a problem.

It's labeled awkwardly because the lengths can't be written on the outside of the paper. The lengths of the larger triangle are shown.

So the entire short side is 5.7.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume the long leg is exactly 10 and re-calculate the other two sides' lengths for accuracy.

Short side = 10/sqrt(3) ≈ 5.7735 (we'll round at the end), hypotenuse is 5.7735 * 2 = 11.5470

So by focusing on the triangle whose long leg is 10-x,
(10 - x) / sqrt(3) = x
10 - x = x*sqrt(3)
10 = x + x*sqrt(3)
10 ≈ 2.732x
x ≈ 3.66
Round that shit to 3.7 and you're all set.

Nigger I'm 26

I got you bro. Check the red circles.

Well why do you try to solve kid's problem on the internet? Educate yourself

You doing this for fun or did you recently go back to school?

...

Back to school.

Yeah, but how do I find the red circles?

I've circled them for you.

lol

Nice man. I went back when I was 25. Was absolute shit at math. Now I have half of an engineering degree and I'm a professional STEM tutor. You can do it bro.

Good for you user. Trigonometry is the tool you need. Look it up

...

Assuming the 10 refers to the length I've indicated. Then X can be found using trig.

X=10tan(30)
X=5.77

Also what year/grade are you OP?

Sorry if I wasn't being precise enough, 10 is the hypotenuse of the large triangle
And I'm not sure what my level equates to, it's the level that includes vectors, integral, trigonometry and so on.
I know, I really should've been able to figure this out by myself.

In that case completely ignore my answer. Also no worries not knowing exactly what level it's not really that important.

hypotenuse of large triangle = 10
small leg of large triangle = 5
big leg of large triangle = 5*sqrt(3)

but the big leg of the large triangle is also equal to x + x*sqrt(3) = x*(1+sqrt(3))

therefore x*(1+sqrt(3)) = 5*sqrt(3)
x = 5*sqrt(3)/(1+sqrt(3)) = 3.17
