When will the High Definition meme end?
Want makes people think I want to see every spot and pimple on an actors face?
1080p was fine, but anything else is just pointless diminishing returns. 4k doesn't make a film any "better".

Cinemas don't even use 1080p you dip
4k won't do much for visuals but the wider color gamut will be nice
wut is imax
imax doesn't use 1080p either
Higher resolution creates better, sharper looking images when downscaled, tends to come with better dynamic range and allows for more control in post (especially if the director/editor wants to reframe a scene)
It doesn't mean shit for you, but for people in the technical side of the industry, it's a big deal
4k is a must today. If youre too poor to afford it just say so and stop looking salty.
breaking bad is in 4k
>breaking bad is in 4k
cool, now I can not watch it in a higher resolution
>breaking bad is in 4k
Oh, you poor deluded idiot
Google 'upscaling'
> When will the High Definition meme end
When we get to a pixel density that is indistinguishable from reality so the eye can't tell the difference. "Retina Display" isn't even close that.
>Higher resolution creates better, sharper looking images
And why is that "better".
>Want makes people think I want to see every spot and pimple on an actors face?
Like I said, it doesn't mean shit for you since you don't care
But for people that care about image quality, it's a big deal
>implying the future isn't vectors
I actually saw a 6K UHD at Best Buy, shit was cray, real life doesn't look that HD so 8K UHD must be close to recreating The Matrix IRL.
>upscaling a movie
back to Sup Forums kiddo
I somewhat agree with this. I'll take a somewhat blurry movie shot on film over some horrible looking DSLR hyper-focused garbage.
Are you fucking serious?
>literally has no idea about the industry he shitposts about
kek, what a retard
I heard the same when HD started "DVD is fine why do I want to see every actor's pores"
when internet speeds catch up we won't look back
>yfw porn and videogames are responsible for he public's interest in increasing resolutions
Kill yourself
>Not wanting to see movies in the highest recorded quality
Anything else is anti-snobbish and pro-stupidity
>He hasn't seen 4K
I have a 4K TV and it's mind blowing. Landscapes in particular are just awesome
be straight though, is it the resolution or just the HDR that makes it so nice?
I'm going to wait for a while to buy 4K.
Why even bother with 4k shit when 360° kino is the future?
for real, some of the demos they have at best buy are crazy. no actual film or tv show looks like that but it's creepy how vivid it is.
the resolution makes a huge difference, you really think having 4x the pixel density won't make a difference? The step up is similar to the step up from SD to HD.
it's just to sell more tvs
how do people not understand this by now?
the same people who never get their televisions color calibrated
you must have a big TV
I read somewhere 35mm is the equivalent of 16k so it will likely end at 16k
for you. It's 55 inch.
for you
>getting your tv colour calibrated
>not just doing it yourself
>Buying a single use $150 device
if I pushed your couch back would you lose the benefits of 4k?
It would be extremely noticeable
somewhat but not entirely. I can see details in 4K I would never see in HD even sitting far away. I like to sit quite close though so it's really worth it for me. It's like having a cinema screen, it's beautiful.
HAHAHAHAAAAAA
it's a fucking program you can torrent for free
you got jood, m8
You people bitch about resolution, literally every new generation. Just kys you fucking Luddite.
The only people who don't have to kill themselves are the ones who post a time stamp in front of their 640x480 CRT.
reported
4k slums be the last simply because the vast majority of movies are shit on 4k digital. Those low budget ones where probably shit at 2k. Unless everything new stats getting shit on 6k or 8k, everything will just be an upscale. Only those shit on film with a well preserved negative will benefit
that's been the case for a while now
>183 kb emma
>Imax
>Being anywhere at all.
I have to drive 6 hours to find one and its utter shit.
Is there anyone in the world who cares about 4K? Aren't those tvs selling like shit?
once you start spending that much on a tv you might as well just get a projection setup
No him, name?
people will care when they're $400
Everybody already has a TV so sales fall. They pick up again every couple years when TVs break right after the warranty expires.
I watch my dads 4k tv all the time
right now its only good for youtube and porn
DVD was fucking amazing because there was no rewinding, you could skip to any part of the movie, and no slow degradation of the image every time you play it.
People don't remember what a pain in the dickhole VHS tapes actually were.
most people just pick up a 4K TV now when they're getting a new one, not because they especially want one though it's just what's in stock. If American internet keeps staying in the shitter then 4K is going to take a while to come around
Floor model with wood paneling or small, cheap bedroom tv with digital remote?
>projection
wow...just wow
some of us dont live in the basement
>skipping to a part of the movie
people actually do this?
boobs
It really depends on how it was shot, film stock quality, equipment quality and so on. You can't really compare film to digital that way.
5.1 audio was a god send as well. I remember having to rewind tapes by hand in the mid 90s
When sports are 4k they'll start selling
drink this
what you read was wrong, it's about 6K
>4K 60p American football
Mt body is not ready for that level of awesome
football is garbage, like almost every team sport
try and stop me
4k60p MMA then. Better soccer faggot?
>like almost every team sport
what makes you think I like soccer?
the only good team sport is rugby.
yeah that's why I didn't go back further, when DVD came out everyone was btfo the only ones who complained are some assholes with walls full of VHS tapes they "had" to replace and even then some were happy about it.
I really can't imagine myself ever buying a 4k TV
4k computer monitor, sure
it's probably 6K.
people have already said that 4K is visually enough for home theatre.
The real difference between 35 and digital has been color rendition, exposure and f stops. But all those have been caught up with now thanks to HDR and modern sensors.
Pretty sure the #1 complaint was unskippable adverts. Hell, still is on Blu-ray.
It doesn't matter what colour you show on your screen if you can't use a camera designed to match it retard
Have you ever seen Drive on blu ray? I shit you not there are 15 minutes of trailers before you reach the menu
I rip everything to my PC and then play it. I refuse to sit through adverts.
a properly calibrated camera will look good on a properly calibrated tv
THAT IS THE POINT OF CALIBRATION, RETARD
Can one of you post the name of the fucking program? Thanks
>buying blurays that aren't kino
No I havent seen the bluray of drive
>thinking that you calibrate with a device
>trying to impose your "opinions" of kino
get out
just google it there's a bunch of ways to do it and there are steps involved
using hardware calibration is superior
>implying eyes wide shut isn't pure kino
I wasn't imposing anything but that and I'm right so you're triggered
Give me a clue there's probably lots of results
Televisions already come calibrated from the factory, just like most high end monitors. That's what you're paying the premium for.
Can we all stop this retarded memeing.
this is true, but only if you buy the hardware
having someone else come calibrate your shit is a meme unless you live in a cave and your lighting situation never hcanges
I'm talking about Drive, not eyes wide shut
Drive is a piece of shit. Stop talking about it.
This isn't evem imposing
unless you're color proofing it's totally unnecessary and the difference will be negligible
you said in a quite a definitive tone that it wasn't kino twice now
that's imposing and also wrong
Refns directing is imposing
I have lots of rods bro
cast iron?
forged aluminum
from a filmmaking perspective shooting at 4k is extremely useful if you're planning on releasing in a lower resolution. It gives you lots of room for reframing and digital stabilizing. David Fincher does this shit all the time, Gone Girl was shot in 6k. 4k will become a standard.
Riddle me this
55 inch 4K vs 90 inch 1080p
Why should I bother with thr former when theres no worthwhile releases yet
depends on how far away you sit
Japan already broadcasts 8K
inverse.com
1080p on imax would look fucking terrible
>1080p was fine, but anything else is just pointless diminishing returns
KEK next thing you'll tell me is we can't see past 60 fps
frankly it's pointless to put any hard digital limits to something analog like eyes
How many things are even filmed or broadcast in 8k?
Also how fast would your internet connection to be for you to watch an 8k movie on streaming services?
Interesting how none of Kubrick's BRs have trailers at the beginning. I expected worse of Warner Bros. They don't even have a menu unless you hit the button, just goes straight into the film like it should.
Soccer is already 4k
That's circular logic you retard you have to buy a camera that is calibrated already
>inb4 just use ur phone
