Well this guys and all the bands hey were in (park jefferson, william bonney, midwest penpals) produced the best midwest emo songs.
>Merchant Ships is not Emo/Screamo
that was pretty cute etbh
did any of them continue in other bands after merchant ships?
Off the top of my head, some were in Midwest Penpals and William Bonney.
>emo
>good
Can we have another emo thread?
Go listen to lil yatchy faggot
>Your opinions
>Good
Waste of trips desu
Yeeee
What did you guys think of Slow Burn? I liked it, but it was TOO FUCKING SHORT
I think Slow Burn is my favorite Old Gray release so far
I really do like Slow Burn, but I have to go with An Autobiography as my favorite Old Gray release. It's very amateur-ish, but not in a bad way. It's certainly not as heavy-hitting as Slow Burn is, with a lot more nostalgic feels.
An Autobiography is kind of like that one summer where you made a lot of good memories and maybe broke up with your girlfriend
Slow Burn is when you tried to kill yourself and ended up in a mental ward
i liked it a lot. the spoken word song about walmart made me sad desu.
i loved slow burn.
i never really liked old gray all that much before i listened to it but it was something about it that really got me into them and within the past month i have listened to An Autobiography, their split with Girl Scout, or Scouts; I'm not sure, and "Vulcan Death Grip". Vulcan Death Grip has such became one of my favourite songs.
does anyone here know any good acoustic screamo/skramz/midwest emo-esque bands? Been listening to a lot of CityCop lately and would like to find more stuff like them, but I haven't been able to find much that I've liked. thx.
FUCK OFF, EMO IS SHIT
>OH YEA MAN IM REAALLY EMO YOU KNOW AMERICAN FOOTBALL SNOWING, LE CAPN JAZZ BECAUSE YOU GOTTA FW THE CLASSICS YO XD LE REAL EMO MEME, NO IT ISNT INDIE ROCK ITS LIKE TOTALLY DIFFERENT LIKE EMO, SCREAMO? NAH MAN IM NOT A SCENE POSER KID LMAO I ONLY LISTEN TO EMO YOU KNOW YEAH I LOVE EMO xd
FUCKING UNDERAGES KYS
Why do people go into emo threads just to shit on it? I get that this happens all the time, but with emo this shit gets amplified. Why does someone enjoying a genre you don't like trigger you so much to the point where you have to go out of your way to insult them?
I guess emo fans are easy to pick on cause our music tends to have themes of being sad and or pathetic. Helps randos feel like the chads they'll never be
Listen bud, none of us in this thread have a girlfriend, but you don't have to make it so obvious, just go and listen to Envy and City of Caterpillar and pretend that you're the only one who knows about them.
How is this their greatest hits if it's their debut LP? [emoji]Thinking Face[/emoji]
>caps for emphasis
These are the kinds of people that invest this much thought in emo
i hated slow burn at first because im an elitist skramz piece of shit, but recently i really fucking love it and am begging for more old gray. same thing happened with the new sorority noise
as for the OP. yeah. that merchant ships EP is arguably the best thing to come out of the emo revival
movies like juno
how is it their greatest hits if all of the good songs are on their earlier stuff
I am fucking sick of pink-background-core
Yeah, its strange following the internet traces of merchant ships up to today
>those photos were they look so happy
So do you anons like Nouns? I remember we used to discuss Still Bummed some time ago, I really do.
Angry Son is one of the best emo songs.
insightful stuff
VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRGINIA!
agreed
this album and that song is the quintessential emo song/album, no lie
>I look around at all my friends
>The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 dead ends
>The kids I'll never see again
>The kids who mean the most to me
>Staying up until the morning
>In my kitchen swapping stories
>Memories I can't forget
>No matter how the summer went
I can't think of lyrics that better represent midwest emo.
Sad to think of revival groups like Merchant Ships, Snowing and Algernon who have all more or less been forgotten by their scene. Even more sad to think that the "big players" in the scene nowadays are shit like Sorority Noise and Foxing and Tiny Moving Parts.
>Sorority Noise
Joy, Departed was great. Also, Cam Boucher from SN is in Old Gray.
>Foxing
The Albatross is good
>Tiny Moving Parts.
This Couch is Long and Full of Friendship is also good.
I don't see what the problem is?
>I don't see what the problem is?
you have shit opinions
Thanks for posting your opinions on Sup Forums - Music!
Old Gray were always shit. Their tryhard spoken word tracks are cringe-inducing and every other song they've written has been comprised of generic, unoriginal chord progressions and the same tired and self-pitying lyrical tropes that were six or seven years ago by the bands that nobody cared about. Because they were bad.
Foxing is a band that thinks it's more than an emo band has a broader appeal than self-centered high schoolers (awful trumpet and post rock-y sections), but they're not and they don't.
Tiny Moving Parts get worse release after release. Their instrumentation has sometimes managed to be passable in the realm of bro math, but (and really, this can be said of any current emo band and precisely why the scene should just die again so good bands can revive it a second time in ten years) they straddle a line between taking themselves way too seriously with their music and lyrical content, or treating the entire thing as a joke. This was a case with bands in the past, sure, but never nearly to the degree it is now.
It's all trash, and it's always been trash, but it used to know it was trash. Now, emo really, genuinely believes it has some kind of merit in the grand spectrum of music.
Merchant Ships is obviously best. But Be Still Cody is secret top tier.
yeah it's true, the current emo phase sucks and its eating up all the recognition of the better bands. also
your opinion sucks
>This song's for you
>This song's for movin' on
>This song is for our friends
>Who've been there all along
Fuck this thread now I'm listening to For Cameron again and I'm sad
>Foxing is a band that thinks it's more than an emo band
I don't see how an emo band wanting to incorporate influences beyond American Football means they think they're "more than an emo band"
Also the Venn Diagram of emo and post-rock fans in 2017 is more or less a circle if we're being honest
...
or orang
I LIKE DOGS MUCH BETTERRR!
I miss you hunter
new track when?
>sophie's floorboard hasn't been updated since april
I agree, my dudes.
I think that this song is also one of the most quinstessentials of the genre:
youtube.com
>tfw one of the guys from MPP had a what.cd account
>never got to talk to him
>50 posts in
>a bunch of indie rock and 1 shitty pretentious spoken word band
Sup Forums is kill
Didn't they break up over two of the dating the same girl? I think I remember a while back a friend of Jack or Nick posted about it, but it was so long ago I'm not sure on the details.
go complain about it on facebook or something
i don't know man, but everyone claims nick is a dick. i don't know if it's true, but he made some good ass songs with park jefferson nonetheless.
Yes Merchant Ships is the best emo band. Second place goes to Brave Little Abacus and Third goes to Embrace
Merchant Ships > Midwest Penpals > William Bonney > Park Jefferson
>gf
normie faggot
>Second place goes to Brave Little Abacus and Third goes to Embrace
I think Nick sold a bunch of T Shirts online, but didn't send anything out, and kept the money.
I'm being serious
merchant ships is better than most of the emo revival because it isn't over produced meaning it will age much better
pretty accurate desu, even though i'm kinda a lonely fuck
