Thoughts on Travis Scott? I think his recent stuff is sub-par, but there's no denying that Rodeo is a masterpiece. Even Days Before Rodeo was pretty solid, and Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight was good, if not a little too tasteless and banger heavy. His recent singles have been promising though. What do you guys think?

Rodeo Was Godlike, DBR was pretty good, Birds had a few good tracks. Overall he's pretty good IMO

I'm loving his latest shows. Riding around on a giant animatronic bird kek.

I love his videos too. They look really cool but they are really meaningless.

Ikr, I went to one of his recent ones with Kendrick and it was really fun. He's great live.

And yeah, his recent music video aesthetic with the overediting looks really cool imo.

rodeo is overrated
guy is a fucking poser. liked by scrawny white kids and fuckbois

nigga doesn;t even produce his own beats. trash

I think he's gonna come the fuck through with Astroworld. He said on his instagram that he was working on Astroworld before Birds and only made Birds so he can have bangers to perform live. But besides that Rodeo is an undisputed classic, DBR is great, and Birds was solid too.

I don't see how you can think that Rodeo is overrated. It's simply a really good album.

He doesn't really claim to be that 'street', and that's not really what people listen to him for. He just makes good music.

Just because his fanbase is very diverse doesn't mean that he's bad, it's just because Antidote was a big radio breakthrough and a lot of people just know him for that.

pls tell me i didnt take the b8

(fuck i forgot an arrow)

pic related
all those ppl helping him to make a record and still inferior to flockaveli and thug 101

lyrically hes trash. no good lines at all.
>He just makes good music.
doesn't produce none of his records solo
so idk what kind of music is he actually doing?
the ad-libs????

Can you show me where he said the thing about Birds and Astrowold ?

You do realize that writing credits usually credit all the producers, features, and samples as "writers" even though they didn't write anything at all.

Smile, Travis!

based smileposter

alright then bud.
pls show me what sample is credited on that list
i'll wait

While he has a lot of producers on his songs, that just makes them more high quality. For the record, he did produce almost all of Owl Pharaoh, although that has been his weakest release. His songs are known for being energetic and hype, but I find his best songs are the slower more emotional ones where he sings. (90210, Impossible, Drugs You Should Try It)

...

Oh man I'm really exicted for Astro now.

can't argue with that. its cool that you like him
i just find the hype around him overrated.

unpopular opinion, but I think birds is his best album. I think he found a sound that really works for him. Rodeo is good, but he has a lot of different sounds going on whereas birds has the gothic sort of sound that I think he works best with. I absolutely love Travis desu and I can't wait for his next album whenever it comes out. I'm hoping butterfly effect is a single off an unannounced album.

Look at the writers. Jacques Webster is his actual name. Leland, Sonny, and Michael are all names of the producers who worked on the song who were just credited and didn't actually write with him so you can take them out of this. Glen, Peter, Torsten, and Finn were all members of the band ACHE in which he samples in this song (whosampled.com/Travi$-Scott/Pornography/) and were only credited for legal reasons. With all of that it leaves Travis as the sole writer for the song. You could probably do this for the entire album and find that the only actual writers are Travis and his features.

I think that's respectable. My problem with Birds was the fact that all the songs sounded too similar, and there wasn't enough diversity, so I guess our opinions stem from the same thing.

While I agree with your point, I think you may be giving him a little too much credit. He obviously had some help with the album.

rodeo is my favorite album from travis, but i agree that birds is where he sort of found his own sound. before birds he was constantly being accused of biting kanye/cudi but that all went away after birds

Wasn't Travis mentored by Kanye? I feel like that would explain it. Also, I don't see the Cudi comparisons.

I didn't really see the whole biting thing either, I was just saying he had people on his shit about biting before birds and after birds it all went away

DBR was ok, Rodeo had like three good tracks and is overrated as hell, I liked Birds, and I have yet to listen to Owl Pharoah.

He's nothing special, but he seems to be a lot more artistic than other popular trap artists at the moment.

Bump

DBR gets hated on way too much. Production provides such a dark atmosphere. Easily his most slept on project

I feel this way about Birds. Same people who shit on that album are the ones who love Rodeo. mindless fantano drones.

rodeo's amazing, i think everything else he's made is ok. each album has a few good tracks. but i have high hopes for his new stuff.

Oh come on Trav. Lifes not that bad!

>no one even mentions Owl Pharaoh

I get this is when Trav was raw (no mic presence, corny lyrics, blatantly taking Cudi's and Kanye's style)

but there are some explosive tracks on there
>Uptown
>Upper Echelon
>Bandz
>Dance on the Moon
>Bad Mood/Shit On You
>Quintana

production is definitely better than any of the vocals - but this was also the album where Travis had the most prod. credits (and least other producers)
OP was also only 4 years ago...dude has come a looong way

That tour was fucking incredible

>that many writers
>not one memorable bar

See

no one ever talks about the vocal processing that he has in all of his recent work.
I honestly think that the way that he uses his voice in his tracks is incredible. it's so easy to write it off as "just auto-tune" but they way the tiny melodic qualities within a single adlib blur into delay and reverb until it's indistinguishable from the beat is just so awesome to me. trap production can get stale really fast but the way that jacque's voice transforms instrumentals into these otherworldly passages while retaining their rhythmic weight and flow is just so enjoyable for me.

goosebumps is such a great example of this, the beat is deceptively simple but is sort of wreathed in all this heavily processed crooning

agree with this

i think one of the most surprising things about this album is how cohesive it is in capturing a single mood. i think of the lyrics less as turn up braggadocio but rather like these sort of ethereal thematic sketches where Jacque's insecurities and escapism blurs with the hazy backing tracks. it really captures that feeling of getting fucked up trying to drown out your loneliness with drugs and alcohol.

I'm glad Rodeo is finally getting the credit it deserves here.
