Is EDM real music? I don't mean electronic music in general, I mean all shit they play at raves and festivals. It all sounds the same and follows the same rules and patterns, its like they're all just trying to copy each other, each in a slightly different way...

that's kinda the point. dance music all follows the same structure so you can dance to it. if you were to experiment and change up the formula you'd first have to invent a new dance.
And then you'd have to invent new humans because the formula is so deeply rooted in us.
the answer to "is ___ real music?" is always yes. that being said, a lot of EDM is *really* mediocre.
Every EDM song is just a cover of Darude - Sandstorm t.b.h
Formally, the tension and release formula I assume you're referring is present in all kinds of music. EDM just makes it very evident in what has colloquially become known as
"the drop". Structurally, the majority of pop music is also very similar. Nothing new, nothing wrong with that.
(Yes of course it is real music, regardless of whether or not you like it, and the sooner you get over your musical ego the better)
is my dick real music?
obviously, what a stupid question
you like Led Zeppelin don't you
Not to sound like a total fag, but music is an art, and I feel like art has to have some level of emotional expression of ideas and in turn cause us to feel an emotion. I feel like pop and edm don't really invoke an emotion through any real idea or message, and more just rely on pandering with the same formulas to force the emotion they know you'll feel. It's not music, its a product built and shipped to make you jump a bit, and then jump a bit harder when the beat drops...
>and I feel like
no one cares
>and I feel like
no one gives a shit what you feel, nick
fuck you
>but music is an art
not true
art is very specific
>not to sound like a total fag
you blew it within that sentence alone
>thinking that the definition of art is in any way objectively constricted
it is objective, but hes just wrong in general
Just have a look at the many EDM tutorials you can find on Youtube. These fuckers barely put any thought in their music.
This is the equivalent of cheeseburger for food.
Music is entirely subjective bitch, hence the "I feel like". I don't think I'm right, I'm just trying create a dialogue
This. Predictability is very important in dance music.
>Is EDM real music?
What the fuck else would be other than music? It's got music in the fucking acronym?
I swear some people are so fucking retarded it beggars belief.
>Every EDM song has been done by a single person this entire time
Daily reminder that not liking an entire genre of music does not single-handedly disqualify it as 'music.'
if by real music you mean made with real instruments then no.
There are parts of steroids than sound kind of edm to me.
Particularly during the ending of the mix, theres a sound that I would very much enjoy listening to in a loop with small variation.
Someone should make a edm mix with that part.
Using the term EDM makes you look clueless on its own, the rest of your post is actually embarrassing. There's good stuff to be found in every genre and dance music is probably the most interesting kind of popular music that doesn't seem to be stagnating.
EDM is a perfectly valid name for it.
A festival 'set' for me is different from a traditional concert in the sense that the music takes a backseat in festivals. People dont give a shit what's playing when they're there with their friends jumping around to the drops.
As opposed to apperiacting the actual music if you (for example) go see Hans Zimmer live.
'EDM' can afford to be bland and generic in a festival setting.
the only people who use the term EDM are people that know absolutely nothing about it. it's a ridiculously broad umbrella term to the point where it's almost useless.
and in their "latest in EDM" section there are articles about Aphex Twin, Nine Inch Nails and Linkin Park, so they're all clearly in the same genre, right?
lmao pards
this is such a nick thing to say and i cackled
>source: my name is nick
they figured out a way to make people dance to fart noises and you fags still won't call it art

This is "nu-edm" :^) which is probably what you're talking about, when they started singing shitty songs and get put on radio. Same happened to most other EDM genres, around and since 2011.
