Grant Green
Joe Pass
Pat Martino
John McLaughlin
Pat Metheny
Mick Goodrick
John Abercrombie
Bobby Broom
Kurt Rosenwinkel
Adam Rogers
Peter Bernstein
Jonathan Kreisberg
Lage Lund
Miles Okazaki
Marc Ribot
Julian Lage
Mary Halvorson

Grant Green, Wes Montgomery

Thanks. Are there any ones that I should prioritize listening to over others?

no Herb Ellis?

Tal Farlow is the only answer

Sonny Sharrock
Derek Bailey
John McLaughlin
Fred Frith
Keiji Haino
Keith Rowe
John Russell
Otomo Yoshiside

John Scofield and Larry Carlton are other good ones.

If I can give you advice as a jazz guitarist, don't just listen to good guitar players. Listen to good music and find how guitarists fit in, and what you can add as a guitarist. It helped me find what music I enjoyed playing and sparked creativity for me

Grant Green, Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, John McLaughlin in my opinion

also Les Paul and Kenny Burrell which aren't listed for some reason

don't listen to this guy he doesn't know what he's talking about

>Sonny Sharrock
listen to this guy, he knows what he's talking about

yeah sure as long as you excuse the other 6 hacks on his list

Poser alert

What compilations/albums would you recommend for hearing the best work of Les Paul?

if you want good 50s pop with country influence listen to his stuff with mary ford

if you want well-produced county/blues jazz listen to his stuff with chet atkins

if you just want cool guitar playing listen to his capitol records stuff

As long as we're in agreement on Sharrock, I have no argument with you.

Free improv is not the same thing as jazz.

What makes any of them hacks?

the fact that they make free improv AKA hipster fodder. they may not be talentless hacks, but they're definitely hacks

What's wrong with free imrov?

It's shit, like free jazz.
Joe Pass.

Great argument
