Why did everyone hate Spectre so much?

Why did everyone hate Spectre so much?

Script was really sort of breezy, things just happen in succession. No weight, depth, or any sense of measured unfurling. Blofeld was a prime example, no gravitas, very slight. He was perfectly acted and could have been iconic w better script.

because it was too much old bond and not enough casino royale

Blofeld's entire motivation was daddy loved you more than me.

Everything sort of happened without much transition
Loved the meeting scene tho

>that part where 007 catches J-Roc jerking off

hate?
why hating a nullity?

Nothing happens. As said, it breezed by.

shit execution

>the opening sucked
>the song sucked
>c was shit, andrew scott was wasted
>blofeld was shit, waltz was wasted
>it lazily tried to tie everything to together
>the action was boring and nonsensical

>the opening sucked
nah, it just wasn't anything special

>the song sucked
subjective, a lot of people liked

>c was shit, andrew scott was wasted
100% true

>blofeld was shit, waltz was wasted
100% true

>it lazily tried to tie everything to together
100% true

>the action was boring and nonsensical
like all Craig Bond movies

What'd you think of Mr Hinx? The car chase through the city was just kind of there but the mountain chase was a lot better and he was really intimidating on the train, more than certain he could have survived too.

it wasnt golden eye

Because it tried to force complete continuity on a film series that flaunted continuity.

Song was great TBQH (to be quite honest).

It's better than Skyfall?

Should have just made a proper sequel to Quantum imo

Everything after and including the train is shit

idk why, i think its the last part of skyfall (them being in that sick ass house), but i fucking loved that movie for some reason. its my favorite bond movie lol, what a fag huh?

But lea's ass in that dress

THE AUTHOR OF ALL YER PAYN

Skyfall's only major problem is being a bit too much of a "50th anniversary" film, and also having the odd dumb scene (We're being hacked!). The bit where they fuck off to Scotland is fine. Sure it deviates from what you would typically expect in a Bond film but there's nothing inherently bad about it. The action is quality too.

As much as I like Craig's line of Bond movies and Waltz, I don't think they developed Blofeld enough. Earlier post mentioned is pretty shitty motivation.

They should've dug a little deeper into SPECTRE's ops and provided more concrete tie ins with their involvement with Quantum instead of really trying to ass-pull that Blofeld was doing it to hurt James.

Also, his 'new name' reveal shouldn't have been in the chair scene. They should've worked up a scene where Waltz either escapes, or has someone break him out, then changes his name to go into hiding. Or something.

...

I don't understand how Blofeld could have been responsible for Silva. The other guy's sure, but Silva's whole deal is just that he has a really long running vendetta against M for something SHE chose to do.

I hated that Sam Mendes has insisted on trying to delve more into the Bond character, throwing in useless and damp squib references to his past through villians.

I just want a Bond film where he is on assignment.

And Le Chife and Greene, really.

The two Quantum blokes had their own motivations for doing what they did. Silva, especially. That bit in SPECTRE was just forced and should've been rewritten.

>its a the first scene is the best scene of the whole movie episode

this was kinda cool

Then it was all downhill

It's like they weren't even trying. Like with the girl, I just have to make up stuff in my head and just pretend she had massive daddy issues to explain her shit character. OK we get it, he had to fuck somebody. Even Quantum was better.

The opening was pretty good. After that it all goes downhill...

>Shit song (though I didn't like Skyfall either)
>Yet another "MI6 is old fashioned, this is a NEW AGE" right after Skyfall
>Yet another "Bond finds true love" plot
>Every plot point is connected through the most tenuous bullshit conveniences possible
>The most inert, dull car chase in recent memory
>Bautista is criminally underused, and his death is underwhelming
>Two climaxes
>Blofeld is bad because daddy problems
>Retconning Blofeld into the backstory
>Blofeld's stupid torture device that doesn't do anything at all, I guess
>Blofeld's retarded "It was me the whole time!" speech
>The vague as fuck global monitoring system device, which seems redundant for an already omnipresent, all powerful shadow organization like Spectre. What more is this going to do?
>The heroes delay the launch by, at best, a couple of hours. This is hailed as a victory.
>Being an almost beat for beat copy of Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, but worse in every way

This movie just felt like it was 3 or 4 hours longs. I was just waiting for it to be over.

It just wasn't good. It was super bland. I've seen it twice and I can't remember what happens up to the point he meets Not Blofeld. It's just

a film.

At least Quantum's plot was interesting and understandable once you cut through the terrible editing.

>"Its SMEE james"

I kind of liked Quantum, bits and pieces.

I think, specifically, the fact that they were continuing on with a "realistic" Bond from Royale. That is to say, the evil bad guy plots were small scale; not extinction level events or world domination. Le Chifre was just a terrorist financier and Dominic looking to monopolize water in a small country and probably gouge the fuck out of people for access to it, earning a shit ton of money, and presumably installing a warlord-type asshole (like Hinx) to run it.

After that, it started ramping up to "muh world" scenarios and became less interesting.

I think Skyfall was great, up there with Casino Royale. It kept the stakes small, keikaku "getting caught was a part of my plan" plotting notwithstanding.

It's just about Bond and M. The entire ending hinges on whether or not this one old lady will die, and it's genuinely more gripping and engaging than whatever was supposed to be at stake in Spectre.

They took the greatest Bond villain ever and a god-tier actor and made the shittiest character possible out of it.

>greatest Bond villain ever
you what senpai?

I'm gay so that is meaningless to me. She was also the worst Bond girl out of all the Craig movies (except for maybe Skyfall? Can't even remember who was in that).

I didnt its better than skyfall but thats not saying much

CR>Qos>Spectre>Skyfall

Quantum had that amazing opera scene, but it was just too disjointed with horrendous action scenes and an over-reliance on CG.

Is Skyfall good?

its better than zootopia shitlord

Not as good as Zootopia, sadly

>Craig looked 97 in it
>Shit Bond song
>plot was all over the place
>I WAS ME ALL ALONG
>Brain damage drill just doesnt work and its never explained why
>Ending chase/fight was shit

Oh yeah remember when he just shot a helicopter with a pistol a few times and that was the end of the movie? Good times.

Nice one Bubbs!

I hope we agree on the best.

THIS

Forever and ever THIS

A hundred times THIS ofr as many days

THIS

For all eternity of 100 years THIS.

Fuckin pissed me off to no end.

This. Spectre could have been a really memorable Bond film but just the way the script was written, it didn't leave much of an impression on you although that meeting scene was perfection.

You know it

>like all Craig Bond movies
I disagree, Casino had great action scenes that I remember even its been years since I last watched it. unfortunately everything since has either been bleh or straight up terrible.

>What'd you think of Mr Hinx?
Is that the name of the henchman? If so then I really liked him. We should have gotten more with him before Bond killed him

Mr Hinx was cool, I'm a sucker for the mr muscle cliche. I liked the fight on the train, even though it made no sense at all.

It could happen to you, cuz it happened to me

I never understood how he was behind it all, did the movie ever explain that? All I remember is him being all like "it was me the whole time, James! Remember Casino, Quantum and Skyfall, guys? I was secretly behind all that shit!" multiple times...

>the opening sucked
An 8/10 opening in my opinion. I loved the 1 camera take (well it looked like 1 camera so even if it wasn't, the way it was edited was brilliant). I loved when Craig fell on that chair and he had like a little "Brosnan" moment with having something in his hand and throwing it away before brushing himself off and walking away casually before the chase began.

>the song sucked
I agree

>c was shit, andrew scott was wasted
I don't even remember what he did because his character has gone right over my head (I need to rewatch this film. Only seen it once at the cinema)

>blofeld was shit, waltz was wasted
I thought Waltz was an excellent Blofeld choice but the character writing and his short screentime is what made him weak

>it lazily tried to tie everything to together
With a better script it could have been better somehow I believed otherwise the film that we were given was pretty lazy I agree.

Secretive cults behind large organizations is a cool idea but sadly it didn't work in this film.

>the action was boring and nonsensical
The car chase was pretty boring and bland because nothing interesting happened (even a film like Die Another Day had a 10/10 opening hovercraft chase and sadly we had nothing that spectacular in this Bond movie despite it being the most expensive Bond film to make apparently due to all the locations that they filmed at.)

He was backing Le Chifrre and Silva's operations and QUANTUM was also Spectre.
Also, he had magical powers that allowed him to trap Vesper inside an elevator in a flooding building and also used them to telekinetically guide Silva's dagger towards M's back.

He was alright but I was a bit disappointed when he killed the Spanish guy at the secret meeting and it turned out he would be the main henchman tracking bond.

When the Spanish guy started talking I thought we were going to get some skilled assassin like bond, which I personally prefer to brick with legs

I remember watching the newest Mission Impossible movie just after watching Spectre, and it was basically the same movie. Both are also dull and completely forgettable.

I'm surprised so many people hated it. When I walked out of the theater, I thought especially the "where's muh fun Roger Moore" fans of Bond would be pleased, because the movie has that same kind of ridiculous story. It's completely, insanely campy with the kind of ideas it is tackling, but the difference is that it is all ran through Sam Mendes who has a better taste and aesthetic than the journeymen directors of Moore's Bond movies.

They brought back the gadgets, they wrote in more puns, they brought back the henchman trope, they fucking used Blofeld as the main villain and he has a huge "secret" base. They basically brought all the fanservice elements "where's muh fun" fags were asking for.

Reminder of best Mission Impossible

Seriously? Mission Impossible 5 had Cruise underwater and having to hold his breath for a few minutes and he really did that!

It was such an intense moment in the film

well it's settled then

I'm rewatching zootopia tonight.

falling into the chair wasn't a "Bronson" moment, it was a "Connery" moment from "You Only Live Twice" and (I think) "Diamonds Are Forever" where Bond falls into a couch/chair from above.

>the song sucked
I agree, whole-heartedly. Probably one of the worst.

>Craig
>Bond

This.
Absolutely this.

Because they made the villain this end all, be all, boss who orchestrated everything in the past movies, knew what bond was doing at all times, and knew who he was. And STILL anything barely fucking happens. No big build up to face him. He literally has a fucking conversation with his brother, breaks out and blows up the base. There's no weight to the danger his brother presented. If this guy ran this organization and had eyes and ears everywhere we should've been seeing bond really put to the test and escaping by the skin of his teeth by having them know where he was at all times

IT WAS SMEE

...

I'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE
BUT ALWAYS HIT THE FLOOOR

In the books, Bond always escaped because of the girl or "help". He rarely ever did it himself. I wish the movies got back to that. I guess they did with Casino Royal since he only survived by accident and chance...

>because it was too much old bond

Which is weird because that's literally delivering on the promise of Skyfall.

that list is wrong
first of all, taking out if a Bond is misplaced, the list is badly done.

these are the categories:
>Underrated
>Patrician
>Meme
>Patrician
>Contrarian
>Acceptable
>Shit

the categories for what?

>this Bond is "underrated" BY the public.
>this Bond is the "contrarian choice" by the public

is is about choices or how the bond is seen by the public?

>this Bond is a "meme"
a meme choice? or HE is a meme because his movies were campy? are we talking about the movie or the Bond?

>this Bond the "patrician choice"
we go back the 2nd one

>this Bond is "acceptable"
he did an acceptable job at being Bond, or it's acceptable to be someone's favorite Bond?
are we talking about choices or the Bond?

>this Bond is "shit"
the same as the last one

-----
Let's say I think Lazenby is good (or my favorite Bond? I don't know because it's not clear)
Well, i'm a contrarian then. But what is Lazenby? I know i'm a contrarian, but is Lazenby bad, shit or good?

>Underrated
If Brosnan is underrated because "not many people like him despite he did a good job (otherwise he wouldn't be underrated)"
Isn't Brosnan acceptable too just like Connery? After all he did a job (or he's an acceptable choice too? I don't know because it's not clear)

By the way, Brosnan can't be underrated, even if he did a good job or not.
Most people here grew up watching the Brosnan Bond movies, it means he's probably the first Bond we ever saw... we're completelly aware of his films, and most people who grew up with Brosnan films (who don't browse Sup Forums) probably NEVER bothered to watch the previous Bond movies, i'd say they think these movies are outdated fuck.
There's no way he's underrated.

I barely remember anything about that movie but that torture chair shit stands out to me as completely retarded. Usually Bond escapes those sorts of setups by being innovative and smart on his feet (and the vilains being retarded). Now he just resists it ? What ?

>Blofeld's entire motivation was daddy loved you more than me.

That does suck, and I like the movie. If it were an ideological conflict, this could have been GOAT. Like imagine if Blofeld wanted world domination, because he wanted to restore the British Empire.

Was Blofeld even british?

Who the hell is J-Roc?

Why would Bond be against the British empire coming back?

Radiohead will always be the true song for me. Tempted to download a fan-edit with that in.

Isn't Blofeld's whole shtick is him being a completely unknown opponent ? With no nationality, family, ties, ideology or even appearance.

hesitated because of family?

>What'd you think of Mr Hinx?

one of my favourite Bond villain henchman, easily.

True, RH version was great. I was cringing in the theater with the original song. Faggots high pitched voice got on my nerves

About to watch Casino Royale for the first time

It better be good

Flouted, you troglodyte.

It's a fucking great Bond movie, and anyone who says otherwise is a contrarian cunt.

Excellent.

agree with all the films apart from QoS. It's not really that bad apart from the retarded desert hotel shit

>Everything sort of happened without much transition

These seems to be a recurring theme of major blockbusters recently. I'm noticing it in a lot of not-so-great films.

>>Being an almost beat for beat copy of Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, but worse in every way

True. Fuck, Ilsa Faust was great.

It was basically two fucking hours wasted just to set up Blofeld having a scarred eye in a future bond movie

How did they fuck it up so hard after Casino?

Qos is underrated its solid if you watch back to back with Casino. Bonds best kills are in Qos and the directing reflects his adrenalized version of Bond in his prime

QOS is shit

Stop trying to force this

This.

QoS was basically just a shitty generic mission impossible movie. Didn't feel like a 007 movie whatsoever

Is the queen?

Because literally no one in Britain is an imperialist anymore you prat. Not even the toriest tory.

>Blofeld wanting the white socialist British Empire back to Reign forever
No way would they allow this to happen in a film

>Because literally no one in Britain is an imperialist anymore you prat

Bond fucking is though, hes a product of his time

You cunt

>QOS is shit

It really isn't. It has a few bad sequences, but overall it's alright. Better than any Roger Moore movie.
