WWI + WWII

What are some Sup Forums approved World War films?
They don't have to be modern like Saving Private Ryan or Fury, not that those aren't good, but I want to start having a much wider range of War movies.

Come and See > any war movie

Baby's first Russian film. Don't cream yourself too hard.

A true must-see

Holy shit good answers.

...

/his/ here

>First World War
La Grande Illusion
Gallipoli
All Quiet on the Western Front (I personally really don't care for this movie)
Paths of Glory
Lawrence of Arabia

>Interwar Period / Holocaust
Il Conformista
Triumph of the Will
Life is Beautiful

>Second World War
Casablanca (WW2 is just a backdrop)
Bridge on the River Kwai
Come and See
Patton
Band of Brothers (TV miniseries)
Saving Private Ryan
The Dirty Dozen
Letters From Iwo Jima

Terrible movie. Better than Pearl Harbor though, which isn't saying a lot.

Disappointed by a lack of a good movie depicting Pearl Habor, or any biopics about Erwin Rommel, Mata Hari, or Manfred von Richtonfen. All the movies that deal with any of these subjects I hear are trash. Recommend me something.

This film is basically a James bond film set in WW2, not the Rodger moore / pierce brosnan ones which were just parodying themselves, but the Sean Connery ones where you actually had to concentrate to understand what was going on.

This film made me sad that Hitler killed himself

I swear this inspired Inglorious basterds

Bit of an obvious choice, but it's just that good

Forgot pic

>Terrible movie.

It's not good in a cinematic sense, but it's good in the same way that A Night To Remember is good in that it accurately details a lot of the buildup to the event. It has a good docudrama quality to it that some older films could pull off.

>or any biopics about Erwin Rommel
The Deserts Rat with James Mason as Rommel is pretty good.

Some of my fav ww2 are:
The One That Got Away
Ice Cold In Alex
The Cruel Sea
The Dam Busters
Sahara (1943)

Op, how about prisoner of war films?
The Colditz Story
Captured
Escape To Victory
Stalag 17

...

>Life is Beautiful

Finally someone else suggesting it.

>The Deserts Rat
*The Desert Rats

No it was the other way around. Tarantino's genius was so mammoth in scope it sent shockwaves across time.

Dont watch all quiet on the western front. Its a movie which is unironically terrible compared to the book. This is coming from someone who can't read and hasn't seen the movie.

Literally triggered PTSD in WW2 vets. In all seriousness this, Inglorious basterds and downfall are the only modern WW2 film that will be considered classics in 50 years, the rest are either below average it Oscar bait holocaust movies

TAEGUKGI

it's belorussian, pleb.

...

Great list buddy
I would add:

In Which We Serve
One of Our Aircraft Is Missing
Dunkirk

it's soviet you mong

Got one like this for WW2 broken up into individual fronts?

I always enjoyed Peckinpah's Iron Cross.

How did I forget A Very Long Engagement and Audrey's sweet... assets.

The remake of All Quiet on the Western Front is underrated imo.

Dat ending.

yes, yes it is.

Bridge on the River Kwai Is basically the reason why I made this thread. I fucking loved that movie growing up and I just recently rewatched it since its on Netflix, and It resparked my interest in these type of films.

fuck SPR, except for the first 30 minutes the movie is horrible in every way

Somebody posted this the other week, looks pretty good.
