what are Sup Forums's thoughts on Steven Siro Vai?
Steve Vai
I figured his hands would be bigger.
buttrocker
His music is fucking awful
Mr. 2 good songs. Whispering a prayer and For the love of God. It's a shame for a musician who played with Zappa.
All Steve Vai does is play a million notes per second, he has no feel
You clearly haven't listened to flamenco guitarists.
I'm and I'm not defending Vai by any stretch of imagination.
fucking loved Steve Vai as Satan's guitarist in the Crossroads movie, he also played the solo Ralph Macchio plays in the movie to win the guitar battle
basically trying to be a modern day Frank Zappa and failing miserably
should just play other people's music since he's an awful songwriter but great player
>basically trying to be a modern day Frank Zappa
I think he gave up on that dream after his debut solo album.
He's done some instructional stuff that significantly helped my guitar technique when I was starting out, so he'll always have my respect for that.
But I can't stand his music or overall style. It's not even that he's a just "shredder," because he does a lot more than that. But he's cartoonishly exaggerated in everything he does, like some PUA elder god. His "soulful" playing is honestly worse than his shredding for me, and sounds like softcore porn music (and his face/mannerisms while playing like that doesn't help).
Not really a fan of him. There are a number of better technical players.
>All Steve Vai does is play a million notes per second, he has no feel
That is simply not true. All that comment shows is that you really haven't listened to his music.
He has amazing chops, a great sense of humour and doesnt take himself too seriously.
He is one wacky dude who has some really wacky songs...hes a fun listen
Passion and Warfare is one of the greatest guitar records ever.
People who say he is just a shredder are ignorant plebs.
>he has no feel
are you a liar or just ignorant?

some of his very early stuff is hilarious

I don't like his use of the whammy bar.
