Sci-fi

Can we get a Sci-fi rec and discussion thread?

I saw Sunshine last night and it was pretty enjoyable. Can i get some more recs on comfy "going on a mission in space" kinda like Interstellar and Even horizon too

baka bump desu

is that felicia day?

uh... Moon?

mfw comfy and last movie listed was Event Horizon....

lol opened the thread to ask that

how have you people not seen solaris?

not a big fan, but it's alright

before the portal to hell thing, i meant

Silent running is pretty comfy I guess. Sort of typical 70s cynicism or whatever.

>Expecting Sup Forums to know Tarkovsky
we're buried in capeshit

Sunshine was piss.

It was a religious symbol movie, not sci-fi.

Sunshine and Event horizon are not sci-fi, dumbfuck.

ok, post some good sci-fi then, you cunts

Solaris
2001
Logan's Run
Moon
A Clockwork Orange
Matrix (and Animatrix)
Planet of The Apes
Ghost In The Shell

There aren't all that many, tbqh.
Most good sci-fi comes in the form of books.

Anyone have a screengrab of when she's lying on the floor in that see-through dress? Near the end of the movie, when she's coming back to life. Her spazzing out is chillingly realistic, but so fucking hot at the same time.

What? Why?

this dress?

>sci-fi
>science fiction
Philosophical ideas being presented in a fictional universe, where fictional science gives human beings options which could lead to questioning ethics, morals and human nature.

Sunshine and Event Horizon are just action movies set in space.

Fuck that haggard blonde, give me Hari in

?

Fair enough. im going to be reminding everyone calling star wars sci fi from now on.

>Event Horizon
>Action movie

Good boy.
We need more people to be angry and bitter about the rape of the best genre.

A lot of people refer to Star Wars as Space Fantasy, though.

You're being pedantic

What would you call it?
Horror?

Yes?

>Yes?
what did you mean by this

MUST I DO EVERYTHING MYSELF?

galaxy quest is nice and comfy
blade runner is pretty great
12 monkeys is a really interesting story
close encounters is top-tier spielberg
alien(s)
terminator series
day the earth stood still is good 50s sci fi
the fifth element is one of my favorites, very creative story, costumes, sets and everything else
gattac also good

He's being correct.

That I agree :^)

>Sunshine and Event horizon are not sci-fi

Blade Runner is OK, and 12 monkeys is pretty nice.
Haven't seen The Day The Earth Stood Still
The rest aren't very good sci-fi movies, although The Fifth Element was entertaining enough.

That's my point tho. He's technically correct but no one gives a shit when the commom usage is a more encompassing term

That's why I'm being mad on the internet, though.

It's my favourite movie genre, and people keep raping me.

I know it gets a lot of hate, but I really quite like Cloud Atlas.
I, Robot and Minority Report are also not bad.

also starship troopers is fun if you dont get too worked up about the differences between it and the book

it's a satirirical criticism of the book

Minority report is pretty great. Sort of dull though.

What are you arguing here? Guy said Sunshine and Event Horizon wasn't sci-fi, and you say sci-fi is a more encompassing term? You are shitting on a guy agreeing with you.

basic list:
Blade Runner
2001
Robocop
Alien
Predator 1
Terminator 1
Starship Troopers
Clockwork Orange
Metropolis (surprisingly watchable for a century old 3 hour long silent foreign film)
Solaris (I guess)

me and the guy already found commom ground, chill

THX 1138 is a great film if you have never seen it.

boring as fuck, and that type of movie is right up my alley

how is solaris the movie compared with solaris the book

I read the movies is much more human and sentimental compared to the book, which is really about the unfathomable

Boring is kind of subjective. It's slower paced but it's kind of meant to be since the world he lives in is so rigidly planned.

maybe uninteresting is a better word

I'm all about scifi dystopia but that movie did nothing for me

>OK
>Good
>Funny action flick
>Horror in space
>Schwarzenegger (Would have gone with Total Recall)
>Schwarzenegger
>Militarist parody
>Great
>Drying paint
>Good

if you want comfy sci-fi tv shows then watch star trek deep space nine & babylon 5 (best sci fi tv show ever imo)

I can understand that. I thoroughly enjoyed it because I just really liked the atmosphere and emotional detachment of the characters.

never read the book but the movie is sort of about how humans react when confronted with the unfathomable and how we need to feel at home

Lexx is amazing.

>clockwork better than 2001 and solaris
wew

Sounds like you would really like Zathura, look it up

I didn't really like Total Recall, and I like everything Veerhoeven, including Showgirls.

I'd much rather watch Clockwork than either of those

I didn't actually mean to differentiate.
I think all three are great.

so you haven't seen those 2 yet? wew

its ok bb

Europa Report

I have, but I don't think slower and less entertaining necessarily means better. Solaris in particular is overrated.

>slower and less entertaining necessarily means better
me neither, but they are better for different reasons. though i agree solaris is a bit overrated

any love for 2010, lads and lasses?
pushing a 7/10 on the comfieometer mb

2/10

>comfy
>event horizon

what?

>hellish torture
>not comfy

Ice Pirates

>A Clockwork Orange
>sci-fi

nigger, please

Are you retarded?

Seems like most of you are forgetting that OP was asking for movies involving space in your recommendations.

op here, it's alright. It's just a sci-fi general

The only thing even remotely "science fiction" about it is that it happened to be set in the future. It's like calling The Hunger Games or Bicentennial Man science fiction, which is just stupid.

Dune is a pretty fucking great one

The whole story is about rectifying human behaviour by the use of fictitious science.
Does it work?
Can human beings be trained, like animals?
And even if they could, would such aversion-training make them better beings?

It's pure science fiction, you dumb little shit.
Sci-fi =/= space & robots

Dune is Silmarillion in space.
It has little to do with sci-fi.

>implying mental conditioning and brainwashing is a fictional thing that has never been done

Silmarillion was made up mythology.

Using drugs to "fix" problematic communities within a society has never been done, no.
Stop being a retard any old time.

My point.

this

If you haven't seen all of Tarkovsky's kino get the FUCK off my board and fuck off back to Sup Forumseddit

Things that pop in my head.

Solaris
The Martian
Moon
“A Scanner Darkly”
“Gravity”
. “Attack The Block”
“Primer”
“Timecrimes”
“Upstream Color”
“Children Of Men”

so where fking Coherence?

Not seen it yet.

This isn't spess, but has comfy sci-fi written all over it.
