Because the concept that most americans have about isis is not what isis actually is. Isis is basically a private militant group that hires mercenaries to fight for them, it doesnt help that they were funded by the U.S.

For one thing, 9/11 made it so that you can't hijack a plane anymore. The 9/11 hijackers told the passengers that they would be safe if they just let the hijackers divert the plane, so the passengers just stayed quiet and didn't do anything. That's why the last of the four planes crashed into a field somewhere; the passengers got calls on their cell-phones telling them that the hijackers were crashing the planes into the buildings, so some of the passengers decided to hell with it, stormed the cockpit, fought the hijackers, and scuttled the plane.
