Why do people (even people who like their other albums) hate this album so much?

Why do people (even people who like their other albums) hate this album so much?

Is it because its long? Is it because it's considered 'dad rock'? Too many filler tracks? Because it's story/message is kind of edgy? What?

I think a lot of people liked this album when they were edgy teens/preteens and tried to distance themselves from it as they got older because it's such a sensitive album

they like to pretend that they outgrew it, but in reality they owe it a debt of gratitude as it was their gateway into more thoughtfully written rock music.

Pretty much, I think it's anti-government, and I don't want to be preached to in my music. I don't care about your bullshit metaphor. It's so overbearing when you use something as obvious as a fucking wall to get your message across, especially in such a grand way. It's self important and I don't care.

Full discloser: I've never listened to The Wall. I love Meddle, Dark Side, Animals (well most of it), but I've never listened to the Wall for these reasons.

I just like In The Flesh, that's a nice tune.

Hey You and Comfortably Numb are pretty good, desu.

Maybe they never dropped acid and watched the movie? It's worth doing at least once.

I can't get into Pink Floyd whatsoever. I've tried and I just can't.

Movie version of One of my Turn Ons is pretty Excellent

this is the same as the album version

do you mean Mother? they also changed the ending track

Basically this

A lot of their song are mostly an acquired taste honestly. For me I like their mellow vocals like Wish you were Here, Crazy Diamond, Brain Damage, Echoes, and Hey You

I like the album but the second half drags on waaay too long and has too much filler

Nah, pretty sure that was what it was called. It was on disc two if you have the cd - I think it came on after young lust (which I used to skip over)

fpbp

Literally this, the album is way too personal for a lot of people
>judges an album he hasn't even listened to

This album honestly made me hate the band before listening to their earlier material.

I don't like Hey You at all, Comfortably Numb doesn't bother me.

So why do people still think of this as a big, long double album, yet it's standard to release albums of similar length today?

>I've never listened to The Wall

jesus christ

It's laughably weak compared to the four previous albums

w-why would you skip young lust?
one of my turns is my favorite though

I think a lot of it is just blowback against its popularity. The concensus among the general public puts The Wall in the top two Floyd albums, when realistically it's in the weaker half of their discography. It's not bad, and there are way worse albums out there (even way worse Pink Floyd albums), but I can't think of a worse album with this level of acclaim.

There are people who avoid Pink Floyd because it's popular. Especially Dark Side. Let that sink in...

Those same people should avoid breathing air because it's so fucking plebian that everyone does it.

I agree with this whole post.
Said it better then I could have.

It's a good song - It's just overplayed on the radio. Ii just seems like I've heard the radio singles a billion times at this point

Are you talking about just on Sup Forums or in real life as well? Because I see almost no hate for The Wall in places where I can assume people aren't just trying to get a rise out of me 90% of the time.

dont hate it and I like the film a lot but compared to Wish You Were Here, DSotM, Animals and Meddle I dont really rate it
some of the more theatrical vocals and instrumentals turn me off a bit, there is a lot of filler, a little too on the nose with the 'meaning'

Too many filler tracks, 26 are way too many

I rarely listen to the full thing, but the third side is the best side ever

i like it user. Idk people just don't like concept albums I guess

Love it but I can see why Pink Floyd fans would dislike it since it feels more like a Roger Waters solo album with some guest members of Pink Floyd rather than a full collaborative effort of the band.

>Pretty much, I think it's anti-government
>Full discloser: I've never listened to The Wall.

It's not anti government. Roger Waters is the biggest libtard the world has ever seen. If anything it favors socialism

It's more about social isolation than anti-government isn't it? At least that was my interpretation from actually listening to the fucking album.
