This thread is for the discussion of the language, culture, travel, daily life, etc. of Japan. Let's tark at randam in Japanese and English. Take it easy!
Why do Japanese cigarettes smell so nice? I mean I don't smoke but a pachinko parlour full of smokers was actually a decent smell, whereas popular aus ciggies literally smell like shit.
Is Japan racist? How do you view korean and chinese? And how do you view whites? Muslims? How do you view chinese race from like singapore? Is it any different from mainland chinese?
Jaxson Flores
>Is Japan racist? Yes
Carson Long
Japanese living in Australia here.
>Is Japan racist? Yes, extremely.
>How do you view korean and chinese? Less than human. Less than animals, even.
>And how do you view whites? Master race. Japan is White btw.
>Muslims? Subhuman.
>How do you view chinese race from like singapore? Is it any different from mainland chinese? Subhuman but at least not communist. Slightly above Mohammedans. Same for places like Taiwan. Malays and Filipinos and the like are dirty apes, though.
Wow I love Japan Weeb 害人 need not apply Please don't come to Japan

I'm a mid-20s guy and tonight on the way home from work a woman chikaned me on the train (I understand chikan isn't a verb but idk how to say it).
This shit ever happened to you guys? I got off that train asap.
Landon Hernandez
Pachinko parlous smell different not because of the actual cigarette smoke, but because they're stained with thirty years of stale cigarette smoke. Places people smoke smell a lot different from one guy smoking.
It's what pubs used to smell like back in the day, gives you a kind of nostalgic vibe.
>Is Japan racist? at least, I don't think so, but it is true that many Japanese dislike Chinese and Koreans due to political issues though. as for whites, most Japanese have a favourable impression. as for Muslims, I have no idea. or rather, we are not interested in them because we are unfamiliar to Islam.
>How do you view chinese race from like singapore? Is it any different from mainland chinese? Yes, we distinguish mainland Chinese from ones of other regions and countries. we will treat Chinese race well except ones from mainland if they come to Japan.
Nolan White
I have a question if japan is so rich , why do we have 250 000 jap immigrants here?
Dominic Garcia
Because Japan was poor in the past.

I've got a question specifically about kanji reading. I tried Googling it and didn't get a real answer. In what order are you supposed to read the components/radicals of a kanji?
Here I made 2 examples. I'm far from knowing all their uses, but I think I have a decent idea of what they each actually mean. My "translations" is just the first thing that comes to my mind when you change what order they're read from. Top row is right to left, top to bottom. Bottom row is left to right, top to bottom.
So anyway, my question is, is there any real way you're supposed to read these to get an idea of what the combined concepts are trying to convey? Or does the order they appear in not matter and there's no real significance behind the order in which they're arranged?

Im planning to write about MBTI's personality types and customer purchasing as topic for my international business & marketing thesis
I think develop marketing campaings that targets special sectors of the population who share the same MBTI personality type can increase sales instead of campaings that go to sectors divided by age, sex, occupation, income

I don't know but last time I checked 1500 Japs lived in Poland. Like why the fuck would you move from Japan to Poland.

Is japanese society still traditional or perhaps it becomes more "modern"?
Jaxson Phillips
The basic rule is that left parts convey meanings and right parts convey pronunciation. Another rule is that kanji should be written from left to right and top to bottom. But there are so many exceptions to these rules, and you are wasting your time if you are trying to find patterns that fit all.

I avoid these threads. In almost a year of trying I only learnt hiragana, katakana, and hundreds of kanjis which I mostly can't remember any more anyway.

To learn Polish language and to discuss various topics with Polish people?
James Fisher
I see. I had a feeling that's how it is. I was hoping it would be right to left, top to bottom to be the definite order to read in since old Japanese script was read in that way too (if I'm not mistaken) but I guess I should just ignore the read order and take all the concepts in a kanji in at once. Thank you.
Nathaniel Sanchez
They have polish products in their own shops, no need for a 14h flight just to eat some bigos. Why the fuck would anyone, especially a Japanese, want to learn Polish? Like seriously
Samuel Martin
>Although popular in the business sector, the MBTI exhibits significant psychometric deficiencies, notably including poor validity (i.e. not measuring what it purports to measure) and poor reliability (giving different results for the same person on different occasions). >popular
yeah, you should be able to find lots of references.

Because Polish girls are pretty?
David Allen
Alright this is a valid reason.

You should use more Japanese in practice, your brain do not see the point of memoryzing kanji if you use them only while you study. I'd also recommend you to learn a lot of grammar and words before you start to learn more than basic kanji

i have a question for people who made it to Japan
how much money do you ACTUALLY NEED to start in Japan? Im at $10,500 and from my understanding you need about $26,000 to prove to the government that you can financially support yourself for one year. is this true?
