Drunk driving kills more people than are murdered (not suicided) with guns every year. Kills more innocent (non driving) children as well.
The difference is that the US already tried the whole "banning alcohol" thing, and it failed miserably enough that even democrats won't fall for it again. So now it's on to guns and smokes.
It's just making the government more involved in your life and making hardship more difficult to cope with so you come to their federally funded teat to drink the kool aid.
