I've read the three statements he made about the incident in Charlottesville -- he consistently condemned the KKK, neo-Nazis and white supremacists.
He would not say that nobody else at the rally contributed to what happened, but when the media asked him did that mean he saw some moral equivalence between the two sides, he stressed that he did not. But he did not back down in insisting that folks who choose to use violence to make a political point are in the wrong, whichever or whatever political views motivate them.
Not sure how you get "supporting neo-Nazis" out of that, unless you think that not only are neo-Nazis wrong , but that they are the only ones who are wrong.
