it's fucking shit

It's a good album, doesn't have a bad song on it. Also their best.

i love it

pretty good

It's an 8/10 but I don't listen to it because it makes me feel really angsty and depressed and defeated

I actually like AJJ, but this whole album is cringy, even for them. I don't really listen to them since the name change anyway.

I love it. It was the last hurrah for the band essentially. They brought the whininess that's turned a lot of people off from the band but really fleshed out a record detailing WHY the lead singer feels the way he does. It's a shame that after this the lyrics and songwriting went to absolute shit.

>Cuck: The Album

it's a fun listen sometimes

Their most fun album, but I think that People Who Can Eat People is better.

The more rock'n'roll songs are filled with energy, I love them.

Great album, American Tune is pretty bad though.

bump

>I AM WHITE
*takes off headphones*

Are you sure? Can't maintain and Candy Cigarettes is pretty dope

I like it more than I do most of their other records, the lyrics to most of the songs are actually pretty nuanced in their treatment of their subject, mostly avoiding simplistic good/bad dichotomies. Distance, Backpack and The Michael Jordan of Drunk Driving I still listen to often enough, as far as I'm concerned their later stuff is far, far worse.

Can't Maintain is their best.

shit

really good, probably their best album

...

Its sad in a shit way. I felt like watching cuck old porn.

It's too pathetic for me to get into.

It has a snarky yet comfy indie vibe that should piss me off so much but somehow it doesn't. Personally I think its their second best album behind Cant Maintain

Better than their best album

people who can eat people is better but its still worth a listen

good album for weak men

you know its obviously ironic right?

>In 2016, the band officially changed their name from "Andrew Jackson Jihad" to AJJ (a moniker that many of their fanbase had been using to refer to them for several years). In a statement on the bands website, Bonnette wrote "1.) We are not Muslims, and as such, it is disrespectful and irresponsible for us to use the word jihad in our band’s name. 2.) We no longer wish to be a living reminder of president Andrew Jackson. Interesting historical figure as he was, he was an odious person and our fascination with him has grown stale."

HAHAHAH WHAT
THEY CHANGED THEIR NAME?
JUST LOL

If you know anything about AJJ an the scene then you would know it's not ironic

On This Town Needs Guns changing their name

>This Town Needs Guns was simply a name chosen by a group of friends wanting to make music together. At the time, this name was not considerd particularly offensive and indeed was an ironic statement given the setting of such a historic and cultural city as Oxford... With our music now finding new cultures, the irony of the name is no longer implicit. Also, in light of the controversy over gun ownership in the US as well as tragic shootings there and elsewhere in the world, we want to distance ourselves from a band name which we are now uncomfortable with.
Holy fuck people need to either think more before they name their band or stop being pussies.

except its is
its meant as a contrast to the rest of the album
he first talks about how his life is great and he has no problems cause hes white
and the rest of the album is about how shitty his life is

>being this offended cause bands you dont listen to shortened their names

That's a real stretch there user, everything about their politics is far left and they have said this kind of shit unironically for years.
I actually listen to TTNG and the name was cool, they changed it because they are pussies and that's why I was mad

>projecting offense
i think its funny as hell and im glad i dont listen to andrew jackson jihad's new stuff

that

>i dont know what "far left" means
they probably do think that white privillege is a real thing (and it is) but that song is intentionally very over the top and not really serious

good, specially big bird and hate rain on me. they've had better songs but it's their most complete album

>white privilege
>>>/reddit/

great album

lol
reddit gets more offended than anyone, everytime someone unironically brings up white privillege
also white privillege is nowhere near as big deal as you think it is
it doesnt really mean much on a personal level

Hon, it depends on the subreddit and the vast majority of them you will get lynched for denying the boogieman that is white privilege
T. someone who is banned from 6 subreddits that I visited for years but was kicked off for a single comment.
Honestly lefties are fucking awful

there are very few leftist subreddits and those are still incredibly small compared to the actual big subs
most of reddit are liberals and its getting more and more conservative
also reddit fucking loves "anti sjw" stuff and nowadays its really common that Sup Forums propaganda gets to the frontpage

No. Fuck your stupid tactic of claiming that people who disagree with the PC police are the offended ones. People who defend free speech do not do so because they are "offended" by your trying to suppress speech and censor society, they do so because they value free thought period. I get that you are trying to reappropriate right-wing insults, but it's not even logically sound.

Another thing: this whole shtick of "no true leftism" is getting really annoying. People like you disavow yourselves from liberal/SJW types and reinforce the same trite identity politicking bullshit in the same breath.

name one time free sppech was surpressed in the last decade
you cant cause free speech only applies to the government

and liberals are not leftists by definition

music for whiny virgins

How i do you pronunce "AJJ"?
>afffggg
>Eigiiigiii
>4AKKK
>HAAQQ

i preferred people who eat people to be honest
still pretty good though

ay-jay-jay

>name one time free sppech was surpressed in the last decade

OK, Viet Cong were witch-hunted and shamed until they changed their band's name. Didn't even have to stray far from the thread.

>you cant cause free speech only applies to the government

??? You need to clarify what the fuck you mean by this.

>and liberals are not leftists by definition

Would love to hear the logical chicanery involved in arriving at this conclusion.

i now it can be tricky but its like this
jay-eff-kay

This is bait, but on the off chance you actually DO like american tune, why? Surely you've been here long enough to know all the shit it bitches about is blown completely out of proportion?

Free speech means you can legally say something you want, as well as express your opinion. Viet Cong was allowed to make their name that, and then people (because of free speech) were allowed to say they didn't like that.

Saying that people cant get mad about a band name is limiting people's free speech.

It's their worst album but Big Bird might be their best song.

I thought this was a board for discussing music? Nice thread you guys got here holy shit

>censorship
>ˈsensərSHip
>noun
>1. the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.
>that are considered... politically unacceptable

This is actually pretty straightforward, but I see you are taking the "make up my own special definitions of words" argumentative tack, so there's probably not much I can do to defeat you, right?

>artist brings politics into their music
>uhh holy fucking shit guys, why are you discussing politics instead of this artist's music?

Fuck off

what's the right-wing equivalent of AJJ?

No one censored them, they changed their name

>guy is wearing blue shirt
>crowd of people shame him and tarnish his reputation until he changes into a different color shirt
>heh, he totally wasn't coerced into changing his shirt

>name one time free sppech was surpressed in the last decade
>you cant cause free speech only applies to the government
>and liberals are not leftists by definition

Are you mentally retarded or just pretending to be?

It was a name which was meant to be an obvious joke (because they are from the UK), they started touring the US and it didn't work anymore, so they changed it because it wasn't representative of their image.

>I don't understand free speech

???
VIET CONG CHANGED THEIR NAME TOO??

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

i fucking hate music culture, i remember why i left

What is there not to understand? PC policing is an obvious enemy of free speech. It is included right in the definition of censorship. I even gave you a convenient analogy for Viet Cong's name being censored. What more do you want me to tell you? Are you just being deliberately obtuse?

one of the worst bands of all time and i mean that sincerely

Viet Cong were entirely free to keep their name.

Anybody seen them live recently? And if so how much of their old music are they playing? I know they released an album recently but I only care to see them if they play their old stuff.
And to yell something about Trump at the concert

I'm sure you have some unique definition of freedom too. See, most ordinary people would say that somebody did something freely if they did so without coercion. I'm not going to talk in circles here, so go look up the definition of coercion and cross-reference that with Viet Cong's situation.

>The band frequently faced controversy over their original name, involving accusations of both racism and cultural appropriation because of the name's association with the original Vietnamese Viet Cong. In March 2015, the band was set to perform at Oberlin College, but the show was cancelled due to their "offensive name".

This is pretty fucking cut and dry, user.

I think very few things are actually done entirely freely if you use your definition, everyone is changed by the opinions of those around them.
Hows this for an alternate analogy, if I go about using retard/retarded as a term for stupid or bad and then someone tells me that they find it offensive because they have a sibling or friend who has palsy or something which people make fun of them for and that my continued use of retard makes them think less of me, if I stop using that word would you call that censorship?

Only babies get mad at American tune. It's not even a harsh song, and it still makes mu fall on the floor and suck it's thumb.

their best album, backpack is 10/10.
I've only just started to think that American Tune might be ironic - despite his privilege he's still gone through shit like having an absent father etc - but yeah I always thought it was just a literally 'check your privilege' song, they are lefty as fuck and seems about right for them.

Nobody lawfully made him change it

They have been interviewed about this before, it's not satire

You're moving the goalposts and appealing to emotion. Your hypothetical draws more on direct personal affronts than the case with Viet Cong. A band of ~white guys called Viet Cong could only be considered "racist cultural appropriation" after a few rinse cycles of mental gymnastics. First of all, Americans fucking lost the Vietnam War. Secondly, I have sincere doubts that the people who witch-hunted and censored Viet Cong shows are Vietnamese. Finally, it's not as if the band were called "Kill Zipperheads". It didn't even matter how untrue or irrational these people's claims were, they still shamed and boycotted a band into changing their name. They labeled them fucking racists.

>I think very few things are actually done entirely freely if you use your definition, everyone is changed by the opinions of those around them.

This is how I know you don't really value a free-thinking society. You are willing to flush free speech down the toilet if it offends the status quo, which is basically what PC policing does.

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship
>Governments, private organizations and individuals may engage in censorship.

Second paragraph, first line. Inb4 muh wikipedia. It is not a general attribute of censorship that it must be carried out by the State.

so do you believe in censoring people's opinions?

What part of my post even remotely suggested that? Why are you being so daft?

If you don't believe people should say "I dont like this" then you are censoring them

I'll back out of the Vietcong argument cause I didn't follow it at all so I don't know the ins and outs of what happened, but what I disagree with mainly is this notion
>most ordinary people would say that somebody did something freely if they did so without coercion
Because I think that people have pressure exerted on them in a lot of ways, if one of those is people to whom you want to appeal telling you they find something about you unappealing then any change is a free choice between appealling to those people or telling them to shove it and appealling to a different group.

Also those aren't me

Whoops
Those two aren't me.

Saying "I don't like this" =/= publicly shaming artists and calling them racists

When was anyone publicly shamed?

(i wrote this reply like an hour ago but there was some weird stuff going on with my connection so its not really that relevant and people alredy said what i wanted to say. so feel free to ignore it, but im posting it anyway)
>OK, Viet Cong were witch-hunted and shamed until they changed their band's name. Didn't even have to stray far from the thread.
people saying they find the name viet cong offensive is fucking free speech
no one forced them to change it
they did it cause they realized that its offensive, some of their shows have been getting cancelled and they didnt really care about the name in the first place
again, changing the name to preoccupations is free speech

>??? You need to clarify what the fuck you mean by this.
free speech means that its legal to say whatever you want and the government cant punish you

it doesnt:
grant you a platform for your speech
protect you from people using their free speech to criticize you

also it doesnt apply to stuff like libel or threats (but this is not really relevant now)

>Would love to hear the logical chicanery involved in arriving at this conclusion.
liberals are pro capitalist
leftists are not

>I have sincere doubts that the people who witch-hunted and censored Viet Cong shows are Vietnamese
they were vietnamese
you can look up videos of protests

>censorship
>ˈsensərSHip/Submit
>noun
>1. the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.
>that are considered... politically unacceptable

I am tired of explaining to you kids over and over again that the band Viet Cong was censored because there name was considered politically unacceptable by a small group of activists who publicly shamed the band and even got a show cancelled for them for something that could be considered a "microaggression" at worst. Moreover, you still for some reason think that censorship is not an enemy to free speech and that the band changed their name of their own volition.

I am not interested in arguing any further about this as you all seem to operate on specialized definitions of words beyond their usage in common parlance. Ultimately, you are defending the practice of witch-hunting artists and incorrectly labeling them nasty things like "racists".

In reality, they had to bend the knee and change their name because they were coerced, which is, again, the opposite of freedom. It is a symptom that we live in a society that is policed by political correctness and have even (tragically) let it infect our art. And here you guys are on a discussion board about art defending the practice. To me, this is tantamount actively engaging in a mob mentality that is the enemy of free thought.

Go forth, brave defenders of political correctness, and attempt to create your 1984-esque society. I have enough faith in humanity that the majority of people won't bend the knee to your new definitions of words like "freedom" and "censorship" that are vital to a flourishing society.

Can the mods just delete this shit thread already

your idea of "free speech" is absolutely inconsitent and makes no sense
you cant give your right to free speech to viet cong while denying it to the protestors

Im not saying they should change it, but they couldve easily kept it to protest their free speech
