Why isn't this album talked about more?
It's genuinely a 10/10, and the best indie album of the 90s
Why isn't this album talked about more?

it's ok
Its a very overrated album tbqh
I think it's damn near perfect. What makes it just "ok" to you?
Explain
idk, the sound just feels generic as fuck
It's on fucking Sup Forums core.
Didn't see it. Still it always seems to be in the shadow of The Lonesome Crowded West, but imo it's much more consistent ad coherent start to finish
It kind of spawned that whole sadboi indie rock movement of the late 90s and early 2000s.
Modest Mouse wouldn't be who they are without BtS
It's on Sup Forumscore but it isn't edgy enough to be posted about 24/7
yeah OP I agree with you this fucking album is fantastic, the way it balances pure emotion and instrumental virtuosity is truly beautiful
doug is my G
fav track?
Because it's not as catchy as Keep it like a Secret or There's Nothing Wrong with Love.
They tried to be a prog band, but Doug just writes really good 3 minute songs.
Still good, but honestly it starts strong and finishes weak.
>You can't trust anyone
>Because you're untrustable
I find myself just quoting this album all the time when I'm by myself
AAAND YOUUUUU BETTTTERRR NOT BE ANGRRYY
The mods really need to sticky the new chart.
The second half of Untrustable Part 2 (About Someone Else) is breddy darn good if I do say so. Who else think the same?
I Would Hurt A Fly or Made Up Dreams
It finishes on two of the best tracks on the album
i disagree. Randy described eternity and I would hurt a fly are my 2 favorites.
I mean I pretty much like every track but I find it hard to decide between Randy Described Eternity and Velvet Waltz
>AND YOUD BETTER NOT BE ANGRYYY
>AND YOUD BETTER NOT BE SAAAD
>YOU'D BETTER JUST ENJOY THE LUXURY OF SYMPATHY
>IF THAT'S A LUXURY YOU HAAAVE
>tfw all my favorite albums are on that chart
Both solid
I mean the album's like a 9 for me I enjoy every song
I do love Keep It Like a Secret though, TNWWL is still very good but has less memorable tracks for me
Exactly
Randy Describes Eternity probably beats out Made Up Dreams if I really thought about it. And Doug says he doesn't even like writing lyrics
Its talked about alot. Its one of the most recgonizable indie rock albums of all time. Wtf are you on about
Needs THe glow pt 2 to be in the top rung of Sup Forums core.
And needs Korn and deftones off the metal list. Thats nu-metal nostalgia.
Honestly never see it talked about or mentioned on this board. Maybe in chart threads but not discussions. Maybe I've just been unlucky
>"im 19 and just discovered indie rock"
I'm 22 and I've been listening to indie rock since middle school. Just went back through the BtS discography recently and forgot how incredible this album is. I used to listen to Keep It Like A Secret everyday. What do you listen to big boy?
>What do you listen to big boy?
Mostly post punk and krautrock. Some glam rock too
>glam rock
Not him but if you're that into indie rock you're not one to judge
Stupid fucking cover, though.
Built to Spill is fucking amazing
Also Carry the Zero is their best song. period
Whats wront with glam? You realize Bowie and Eno are considered two of the most important people in influencing rock and pop music, right?
Yeah I think American Football and The Glow pt 2 need to be switched
AF is my favorite album off the Sup Forumscore list but The Glow is consistently more popular
>comparing indie to glam rock
Nice bait bro
hate the emo, very american feeling of it
Two good artists out of an entire genre, and their best releases aren't even in the genre
>Two good artists out of an entire genre
What about Sparks, Iggy, and New York Dolls?
>this dude who is into """glam rock"""
you do know that label means practically nothing right?
it's either applied to a certain cadre of artists (mainly solo) that existed at a certain time, or it applied to people who are playing hard rock but put on a contrived glam persona
>it has no meaning
>it's applied to a certain cadre of artists (mainly solo) that existed at a certain time
So which is it?
>"you do know that label means practically nothing right?"
>proceeds to explain that the label does have meaning
it isn't a genre
it has no basis in the actual music that is played
you retards
its really not hard to understand what he meant
>Musically it was very diverse, varying between the simple rock and roll revivalism of figures like Alvin Stardust to the complex art rock of Roxy Music.[7] Artists drew on such musical influences as bubblegum pop, the brash guitar riffs of hard rock, stomping rhythms, and '50s rock 'n roll, filtering them through the recording innovations of the late 1960s
Just because its a diverse genre doesnt mean ita not a genre
Hoe come you cant be into glam rock just because it isnt a well defined genre?
This albums the closest to indie prog without sounding too much like another genre. Kicked it in the Sun is god tier.
>Its all right now on getting over getting mine
>youre special, in other ways
>ways our mothers appreciate
too diverse and too restricted? that makes no sense
I'm not saying you can't
however it'd be difficult for somebody to say they were into glam rock, because it's rather hard to discern what is, and what isn't glam rock
and I don't dislike these artists mentioned at all
>genre = "too restricted"
What?
>"i dont like any of these artists"
Ok, how is that in any way relevant?
>it's rather hard to discern what is, and what isn't glam rock
Same for literally ever genre. Is Unkown Pleasures a "punk" album? Of course theres grey areas for all genres, but theres also albums that clearly fall into a genre, such as if you said "Country Life isnt a glam rock album", youd be objectively wrong
It really is.
you can't read
what I am trying to get across to you is that it isn't a fucking genre
it's a scene, a look, or an attitude, and has fuck all to do with the actual music so saying that you're into glam rock means fucking nothing
>has fuck all to do with the actual music
Objectively untrue. If someone were to dress glam and then play fucking metal music it wouldnt be called glam. Glam music does have a shared stlyles and characteristics
Glam Metal
it exists as a label
basically you're an idiot
tbf it's not like any of the Sup Forumscore albums is talked about all that much. That said, absolutely fantastic, one of my most consistently returned to.
...
Unknown Pleasures is in a clear genre, post-punk.
Yah but its distingushed from just glam rock because it doesnt share the same musical characteristics.
>At glam’s core musically was a heavy guitar sound shaped by hard-rock and pop styles, though the movement also had heavy metal, art rock, and punk incarnations.
Glam has a distingushed sound. Maybe metal was a bad example. If Minor Threat wore makeup and high heels, would they be called glam rock?
jesus fucking christ look up glam punk
you're actually fucking new
The only real Glam Punk is the fucking New York Dolls, they sound absolutely nothing like fucking Minor Threat or hardcore punk music, and theyre called Glam because their MUSIC had the same personality as other glam bands at the time. Find me one hardcore punk band thats glam. Ill wait
Pic related. A list of Glam "Punk" artists. Notice how none of them are actually punk
>The only real Glam Punk is the fucking New York Dolls
I'm actually getting nauseous here
he uses wikipedia to reinforce his musical opinions
holy fucking shit
why are you using minor threat as a metric for this
of course they won't sound like minor threat you fucking dolt, if they sounded that hardcore they wouldn't be classed as glam
if they're classed as glam it literally just means they're playing bog standard punk music (nothing to do with hardcore punk you fucking moron) but doing it with a slightly different wardrobe and vocal style, but that is it
>if they sounded that hardcore they wouldn't be classed as glam
SO THEN THE STYLE OF MUSIC MATTERS AND ITS NOT JUST THE FUCKING CLOTHES THE ARTISTS WEAR? WOULD YOU MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MIND?
Can you name some "glam punk" bands besides New York Dolls or Stooges?
WHY ARE YOU LETTING YOURSELF GET B8ED INTO THIS AUTISMO ARGUMENT
BECAUSE IM DRUNK AF
you aren't understanding me
THERE EXISTS NOT A BAND THAT DRESSES LIKE A GLAM BAND THAT PLAYS MINOR THREAT ESQUE PUNK BECAUSE THE TWO ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT
nobody in hardcore punk would ascribe their names to it
Turbonegro, Nikki Sudden, Stiv Bators, Soho Roses
SO AM I AND I CAN'T SOLVE THE FUCKING CAPTCHA
I like BtS but holy shit are the drums and bass simplistic as fuck
It really is a symptom of Doug being a control freak, he is too focused on his own interment and the other guitars to fit in good and interesting rhythm sections.
Goin' Against Your Mind is a great song but the drums and bass are literally the same thing for 8 minutes
I hate when my favorite albums get threads because it tries my opinion of their greatness. No. This is a good ass album and you cant say otherwise. If you say this isnt good you are objectively wrong.
