It's not like the movie even attempts to adapt it. It just borrows some of the iconography to retell a specific period of the authors life. Namely the period in which he wrote the book.

Same, for the most part. I can see why Videodrome is important, but I honestly prefer The Brood, which successfully combines Cronenberg's usual body horror with psychological horror. I also have a soft spot for The Dead Zone, which is like an EIC horror anthology comic story brought to life.
