>no real mccoy
other than that its pretty accurate

How do I get into Jazz

Kind Of Blue is usually the popular answer.
But it has nuances that could fly over most beginners.
I say Black Saint.
Easy. Not as complex. Jazz record.

>4. Sun Ra- Atlantis

>caring about Scaruffi's opinions on jazz
He's a decent rock critic but his writings on jazz and classical are seriously embarrassing

>He's a decent rock critic
Not even.
He's a scam.
Anybody got that post of user debunking all the supposed albums scaruffi listens to?

I'VE LISTEN TO THE BLACK SAINT AND THE SINNER TWO DAYS AGO NOW IT'S DISCUSSED EVERYWHERE THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME I LISTEN TO SOMETHING HOW WHY HOW .

you are new here, retard

his rock recommendations are BY FAR the best you can find, fucking Soft Machine, Faust and Vampire Rodents, bands that nobody would ever talk about again and are amazing

>his rock recommendations are BY FAR the best you can find
Yeah. But he's a retard in almost everything he talks about.

whatever, he still the best guide to know about great music, thats enough for me to appreciate the guy

who are some good jazz critics then

Anybody who isn't white.

listen to hip hop from '94-99

Eh, it's not difficult to listen to all the music he has rated...
I think you mean his film lists, but that's because he takes opinions from critics he trusts. He even says so in the same page.

no herbie, keith jarett, pat metheny, weather report

>no herbie,
Literally porn music.

was for

>no Bill Evans
>no McCoy Tyner

Just white people cares about jazz nowadays

No Charlie Parker, no Dizzy Gillespie, where's the fuckin bebop? Black Saint isn't even jazz btw it's third stream.

>bebop
Shit.
Sad!

>implying bebop isn't the turning point for jazz

headhunters is great porn music though

This is the reason why Sup Forums's taste in jazz is so shitty

this list is basically shitty independent coffee shop playlist, bar bitches brew

You can't shit on Open, To Love,
Wtf.

Thom Jurek is alright; I haven't paid enough attention to who's writing what, but freejazzblog is alright. I would suggest only loosely basing your current-year listening on critics' scores; your best bet is going to be sniffing around based on instruments, formats, players, etc. that you like. AKA get some taste. Scaruffi's opinions on jazz are trash largely in part because, right next to his greatest jazz albums list, he states that a largely composed and/or studio-spliced album will nearly always be better than a largely improvised or live album; this mentality is the antithesis of much jazz, particularly the free jazz he champions on the list this statement is next to.

Anthony Fantano

bebop and hard bop are so much more interesting to listen to than free jazz or improv shite

>makes top 25 greatest jazz albums of all time list
>gets name of #1 wrong

goddamn OP

Is he wearing two watches?

He's fat.

isnt that just scaruffis list

The best thing you can do is listen to his 8+s but don't discredit his 6-7's, and avoid "review" he has ever written (it's probably in Italian anyway). I don't think I've been disappointed by an 8/10 yet.

That's the first thing I noticed too, and I'm confident that I don't need confirmation for that.

Listen to digable planets and tribe called quest then find what theyre sampling and get into those groups. You'll find it easy from there

the problem is that half of the shit on your list my son, is entry level meme shit that plebs will jerk off and never listen to any jazz beyond that

Why listen to anything after A Love Supreme knowing nothing will ever top it?

not this. Jazzthreadguy is the worst.

>bitches brew is a good album
>sure, Fantano, sure

>freejazzblog
thank you so much for this, just added a lot of albums to my "want to listen" list

No blues and abstract truth?
